A Memorable Seniors Weekend Away at Zeekoe Lodge
With a venue as serene as Zeekoe Lodge near Parys, the seniors from the Sasolburg congregation could not have asked for a more peaceful and rejuvenating weekend away. The group was delighted to witness the river flowing strongly, its sounds creating a calming atmosphere that ensured restful nights for all.
The weekend was a feast for both body and soul. Friday kicked off with delicious hamburgers, followed by a generous brunch spread on Saturday morning and a mouthwatering braai later that day. The fellowship concluded on Sunday with full hearts—and fuller stomachs. Without a doubt, many of us returned home with a few extra kilograms!
Beyond rest and good food, the weekend served as a valuable opportunity for spiritual care and connection. It was a time to deepen relationships and build new friendships. Games like NAC Charades, dominoes, and rummy brought out everyone's competitive spirit and encouraged teamwork. In particular, charades brought great excitement as the ladies triumphed over the men by a single point!
There were also quieter moments of reflection—whether by the river, around a crackling bonfire, or while admiring breathtaking sunsets that reminded us of the beauty of God's creation.
A true highlight of the weekend was the combined divine service with the seniors from the Vanderbijlpark and Parys congregations. Led by District Rector Kuchenbecker, the service was inspired by Luke 24:15–16 and emphasized how faith opens our eyes to see Jesus in our midst. He reminded us that through the Word, the Holy Spirit, and Holy Communion, we are guided and strengthened. The District Rector urged us to seek time with God. Evangelist Roberts also shared insights on spiritual growth and how divine services play a key role in deepening our faith.
After the service, the Sunday School from Vanderbijlpark captivated the congregation with a powerful Passion Week play. Their heartfelt performance, enhanced by a lovely children's choir, brought more incitement and understanding with their visual displays.
As visiting congregations departed, those remaining took time to reflect on the weekend and the new bonds formed. The sense of unity and joy was tangible.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who made this weekend possible. We are especially grateful for the contributions and fundraising efforts that supported the event. Special thanks to the dedicated organizers, Priest Reyneke, Sister Orelia, and Priest Brenkman, whose months of planning and hard work brought everything together beautifully. We also extend our sincere thanks to Sister Ansie and the District Rector Kuchenbecker for their warm hospitality and support.
We look forward to another weekend of fellowship and spiritual growth in the near future!
