An interesting insight on Maundy Thursday.

It is Holy Thursday, and we are invited to the table with Jesus and the disciples as he speaks his final words on this side of his dying. What he speaks of the most at that table is love. Thirty-one times he uses the word. He enacts this love, too, as he washes the disciples’ feet and shares the bread and the cup one more time.

The love that Jesus enacts and speaks this night is an extraordinary grace. But, as the disciples will hear him say at the table, such a grace is not reserved only for them. They are to pass the gift along: to enact this love, to live this love, to give flesh to this love in this world.

On this day, beloveds, this blessing is for you.

BLESSING THE BREAD, THE CUP
For Holy Thursday

Let us bless the bread
that gives itself to us
with its terrible weight,
its infinite grace.

Let us bless the cup
poured out for us
with a love
that makes us anew.

Let us gather
around these gifts
simply given
and deeply blessed.

And then let us go
bearing the bread,
carrying the cup,
laying the table
within a hungering world.

The District lay Training Day under the leadership of our Lay Leader, Mr Michael Jikijela and his facilitation team was a meaningful experience for all who gathered to learn, grow and unpack the Connexional Platform of Work. Presentations included the Scriptural foundations of our theme, a practical model of engagement through Context, Call and Response and understanding the 5 pillars of work. Robust engagement followed in small groups and a commitment made to continue the work at District, Circuits, Society and organizational level. We are indeed committed to the journey of being Relocated and Repositioned for Mission and Ministry as we recognize that the Other Side awaits.

Today, Children and Youth Workers and Leaders gather for the 96th Children and Youth Synod of the Cape of Good Hope District.

May God guide every conversation, decision, and moment of worship throughout this gathering. We pray that all delegates travel safely, engage meaningfully, and return to their circuits strengthened and encouraged for the work of our children and youth.

We enter into the Lent season tomorrow on Ash Wednesday. Let us walk this long road to Calvary by faith in confession, lament and repentance as we begin our journey in the wilderness with Jesus. Various Ash Wednesday services are being held across Circuits. Please seek your own Circuit/Society to join or whichever is closest to you. May we drawn into the presence of Christ's over this time.

Final day of Ministers Retreat focusing on our call to go back to the world to fulfill our part of the dream of God's Kingdom in a broken world. Having climbed the mountain to experience God's dream in us, we listened to the Goedgedacht vision of caring for rural children, cultivating environmental justice through healthy soil practices and their other programme, we participated in a tree planting ceremony, plating an olive tree symbolizing our commitment to being agents if peace in the world. What a blessed Retreat.
