"Lord, help me to hear Your voice speaking to me when I read Your Word, so I can recognize Your voice speaking to my heart at other times as well. I know You care about the details of my life, so I ask You to help me understand when You are giving me specific directions. Keep me from moving on something before I know what You are leading me to do. I don’t want to do anything without seeking You first.

There are many things I am unsure about each day and I cannot navigate through my life without hearing Your voice to my heart telling me which way to go. I know You are specific about the things You want me to do, because You want what is best for my life. Help me to walk the right path every day. If there are words you want me to speak to another person, give me the “tongue of the learned" so that I will "know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary" (Isaiah 50:4). Keep me from saying anything to someone in the way of advice or warning that is not of You. If someone speaks a word to me help me to know for certain whether it is from you or not. Teach me to become good at hearing Your voice and following Your leading in my life.

In Jesus' name I pray."

Love always lights up our lives. God’s love does that for us. He loved us enough to not let us sit in darkness. Jesus gave it all so we could have His light forever (Matthew 4:16). There is no greater love than that. The light He brings into each of our lives is a reflection of His love for us, and it gives us a sparkle and glow.

Once you begin to see God’s light in the midst of your darkest times, darkness will never be the same to you. It will never have the same fore- boding. It will never bring with it the same fear. You will perceive things differently. When bad things happen in your life, you won’t react with the same despair. You will be able to say, “Praise You, Lord. I worship You in the midst of this situation. I know that You are the Light of the World who lives in me, and Your light can never be put out. I know that You are with me now, and You will shine Your light on this situation. Your glory is over heaven and earth, and it is over my life today.”

Seven Good Signs of a Desirable Friend

1. A desirable friend tells you the truth in love.
“Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful” (Proverbs 27:6).

2. A desirable friend gives you sound advice.
“Ointment and perfume delight the heart, and the sweetness of a man’s friend gives delight by hearty counsel” (Proverbs 27:9).

3. A desirable friend refines you.
“As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend” (Proverbs 27:17).

4. A desirable friend helps you grow in wisdom.
“He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of
fools will be destroyed” (Proverbs 13:20).

5. A desirable friend stays close to you.
“A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24).

6. A desirable friend loves you and stands by you.
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity” (Proverbs 17:17).

7. A desirable friend is a help in time of trouble.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10).

If you have friends with these qualities, protect those friendships with prayer. If you have friends who have less than desirable qualities, you need to pray about those as well.

“The truth is, your thoughts will either serve your flesh or the enemy or the Lord. And the decision is yours. Paul said that evil caused his flesh to war against his mind. He asked who would deliver him from this, and then he answered his own question, saying, “I thank God— through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin” (Romans 7:25). Jesus is the Deliverer who sets us free from our own ungodly thoughts. Because of Jesus, you can change your mind!”
