Eagles Youth Club, a non – profit ( 26-647-NPO)youth organization has been making a difference in the community for more than 15 years now.
“ The main aim of our youth club is to see young people get off the streets, become leaders and be motivated to believe that nothing is impossible no matter what circumstance or background they come from. Our hope is also to see families re-united in order f
or our communities to be restored,” says Vernon David Director of Eagles Youth Club. In fact since the Club’s inception in 1996, being based in the previously disadvantaged areas of Phoenix, Palmview, Brookdale and Amouti has made the Club a safe haven for abused and destitute young people. The Club initially started with seven members and presently has a registration of over 100 young people, aged from 11- to mid 20s who meet every Saturday. and are involved in the following activities:
· Eagles Youth Club has a mentorship programme in place where future leaders are developed
· Eagles youth Club has a community development department that caters for needs within the youth and in the community at large
· Meetings of the young people take place each Saturday afternoon at 5pm
· The Club has a contemporary worship band who ‘rock’ the ‘house’ on a Saturday and also write their own music.
· The Club is opened to youth from all religious faiths
· It is a non-profit organisation and the running of the organisation is solely reliant on fundraising efforts and sponsors.
“Eagles Youth Club also aims to build a much needed youth leadership center, with sporting facilities and 24 hr HIV counselling also available, said Vernon David. He further mentioned that he does not consider the club to be religious, rather a place where deprived young people are accepted, loved and developed into all that they can be. “ We are simply making a difference to our community the best way we can,” he said.
