DANGERS OF DRY LAND WALKING 1

Exodus 14:31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

The Bible is full of patterns that leave one puzzled about how God works. All in all, it doesn't matter what you are going through, God wants to save you. He doesn't change his mind. The Israelites having experienced the Passover would expect their deliverance to take them straight into Canaan but here they are WALKING into the wilderness.

Now one needs to take into account that it's not absolute freedom but a change of the bosses. When you accept salvation, it is a choice about who you want to be your boss. None of us has done what we want in life. If it's not what God wants then it is what the devil wants.

This week we will explore some trends that have revealed themselves through the Bible and in people's lives: that great spiritual triumphs are followed by serious testing. When you are high on God the devil is planning your low. This is just to prepare us to be vigilant for the devil walks about seeking whom he may devour. There is a tendency in us, that despite having seen the faithfulness of God in keeping his promises we still somehow lose it and disappoint.

Come along with me as we unearth the tendencies that come with WALKING on DRY land..

REJECTING JESUS 5

Like those who gave reasons for not coming to the wedding feast of the king's son, we also have many excuses when calls are made. Seemingly our agenda for our own lives is different from God's agenda for for our lives. When God is offering wholeness we are seeking comfort. We first reject the miracle of the love of God towards us, sinners, because it is not in the package we are looking for. Seek ye first the kingdom and the other stuff are just additional. It is time to focus on the word which is the Bread of life and that which will not perish.

Jeremiah 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

The Bible is clear on what we ought to do. It means it is also clear what we ought not to do. By doing such we are ignoring the direct instructions from him that called us which amounts to rejecting HIM. As soon as Christ stopped offering the fish sandwiches to the people rejected him. It sometimes seem far-fetched but many of us have laid the same foundation that we will follow based on gifts.

One more time, the only thing that JESUS is offering you and me, is himself. Let's not get stuck in the process of him getting our attention. John 6:60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it? Like most of us hearing that he is the bread of life becomes a bitter pill to swallow. We know we can say but we are failing to live the word. The question is, how many times have we turned our backs on HIM because the supply of sandwiches (wants) was cut?

REJECTING JESUS 4

John 6:41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.

Since these guys were so interested in what would satisfy their wants and never saw the power of God in what Christ had already done, they tried, by all means, like most of us, to rely on what their forefathers had in the wilderness. As soon as Christ told them he was the bread of life, they started complaining, just like you and I do. Most of us are in it for something that he is not offering. Christ wants to fill us up with himself first but we are busy looking for incentives to follow him.

Have we ever looked back and counted the many bread he has offered and the fish he has broken in our lives and get convinced that he will always supply our needs. All we need is to have him worry about us and we do his good pleasure. While at that we need to accept that there are things in life that we so badly wanted and never happened because he decided for us. How many times have we dedicated time and prayers to things that would destroy us and get angry with God because we never received?

42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?

We usually want Christ to prove himself to us for us to follow him yet we don't want to prove to him that we love him with or without the gifts. Many have sought to highlight how Christ has let them down. Christ has nothing else to offer you but himself. The perishables we get are just to assure us that he is capable of offering us much more than the perishables which is life in HIM. Few are eager to have the miracle loaves (bread of life)which when eaten multiply in our lives building our characters. In these last days, we are so busy praying for some miraculous occurrences yet it's that WORD only that we need most for the transformation of our characters.

REJECTING JESUS 3

The goodness of God can not be confined to tangible things only. Get me right: I am not saying there is anything wrong with receiving these things, but for mature Christians, it cannot be the foundation of our relationship with God. If we make it the foundation then our relationship will crumble when things are gone. From yesterday we learnt that we need to get our priorities straight.John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

We need to redirect our energies to the things that will not perish but work to build our characters for the kingdom.

John 6:30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?

We then miss the important and marvellous things happening in our lives because we have our own prescription of how God must deal with us. We are looking for people who just witnessed the feeding but they are still asking for a sign. Here, it means that, as the miracles happened, they were only fascinated by the bread and fish, and it never dawned on them to ask how it was possible to be fed with only five loaves and two fish.

God has done so many things that if we were to count our blessings one by one and how they came we wouldn't be whining about what he hasn't done yet. You can get all you want, but it's wise to note that these things are meant to be pathways to our hearts and that they will be burned up.

John 6:31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

Because we cannot get from God what we want, like these people a lot of us approach God in prayer telling him what he did for others which he knows already by the way and wish he would do for us as well. How many of the people who are mannah were still alive on this day? The answer is none. They were missing the point still, just like we do forgetting that it is after we have done the will of God that we may enjoy the fullness of his blessings. It is so sweet to trust in Jesus just to take him at his word not gifts, I mean just the word.

REJECTING JESUS 2

Many times, as human beings, we misalign our expectations and end up majoring in minors. One has to take into consideration that the main purpose of Christ's first coming was to save people from their sins Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. These others are just by the wayside. We are not ready to have him as king unless we are saved first. His priority is to have us saved and doesn't really care whether we are saved rich or poor. What shall it profit us gaining the whole world and lose our souls?

Christianity demands the sacrifice of personal agenda and total acceptance of Christ's agenda. Christ has no issues providing but to get to my heart and yours he says, " Whosoever will come. That can only happen when we are tuned to the same wavelength as his agenda. Jesus only offers himself and we are currently finding it hard to accept what's on offer if it doesn't have a stipend to it. Jesus does the miracles and the people only follow the miracles not the Christ of the miracles.

John 6:26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

As he fed them he just wanted to emphasise that he is the bread of life and he would like to fill them with himself and they missed it. They practically got stuck on the example missing the message behind the experience they just had. Sounds kind of familiar that we nowadays get hung up on the gifts forgetting the giver himself. We need to mature enough To cease measuring the goodness of God by what we have received. It is bigger than that. We need to talk like Job that though he slew me yet I will worship him because we have found something greater than gifts.

He is not good because you got the car, or marriage or a house that we should complain about when a loved one dies. Christians ought to praise God at a funeral as much as they do at a wedding because both are manifestations of the wisdom of God.

REJECTING JESUS 1

John 6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

There is a chapter that starts with an electrifying moment when he takes 5 loaves and 2 fish to feed 5,000 men and uncounted women and children. This prompted people to plot to make him their King, just because their stomachs were full. John 6:15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone. It is the nature of human beings that we have short-lived heroes and that includes Jesus.

Now if you look at the two verses and what happens in between them, the only thing that JESUS Said was that "You've got to eat me and drink my blood for you to make it". Jesus offers himself to them saying I am the bread and for some reason, Jesus is no longer enough. The Church offers us many things but the important thing the church must be is Jesus. The function of Jesus is to reveal to us God the Father.

Many of us are following him for something that he is not offering and get frustrated when we realise that we are not getting it. John 6:2 And a great multitude followed him because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. The truth is we are not the first ones to do that. We somehow want to use God. We follow him because he is the son of God not because of the discussion he had with Nicodemus or the woman at the well. Following him because of what we can get out of him.

Don't we think God gets tired of us trying to use Him? How many times have we gone on our knees to force Jesus to provide what he is not offering while rejecting what he is offering? These people are so fascinated by the miracles that they forget the real issue on the table. They even thought Christ was the second Moses. Sounds familiar doesn't it?

We will look in to the subject this week come along with me.
