Kencare at Kensington Methodist We are a registered NPO. On Wednesdays we provide a meal for those in need.

We are not government funded but rely solely on the kind hearts of our friends,family and community.

It was cold at Kencare this morning and when we arrived at 7.15 there are normally about 15 people outside waiting, some are there to help unload and others just want to be first in the queue.
If it's a nice day we normally give the elderly a chair to sit on outside but it was pretty cold so we let them come in.
Yesterday the Tuesday team , Laura Gilmaney and Delia Samuels and myself put pudding together, made coleslaw, mixed veg, cretian rice, chopped sausages and potato and leek soup. We missed you, Caroline Jones .
So, when we got to Kencare, we heated the rice added sausages, heated the soup and added in cream and milk. Added cheese and pepper sauce to the mixed veg. Made greek salad and set out for service.
Dessert was cake, yogurt and custard served with ginger biscuit.
Everyone enjoyed the meal.

This weekend Krish from Saint John School came and dropped off soap. He and a couple of friends had organised a charity golf day and collected a nice amount of money and I asked if they would buy soap. We were given 360 bars of soap which we will hand out over the next couple of months.🙏🙏🙏. Blessings for a peaceful week to everyone!

Christmas comes around weekly Kencare at Kensington Methodist! We have been so blessed by Feed a Child 🙏.
Today they had chicken breyani with lots of veg. There was a lovely French salad, loads of bread from Glenoaks Remedial School 🙏. Fruit salad, watermelon, chomp, bananas, oranges, apples and naartjies was dessert and everyone was given crisps and cold drink.

We have received lots of clothing 🙏 and once the church is usable again we'll be giving them out.

Another hectic day at Kencare! They are still busy with renovations and it's pretty upside down but we will overcome this too! It's still Christmas anyway at Kencare 🤣🤣🤣 and we served about 120 people outside.
We were donated 10kgs of meaty bones 🙏 so I decided to make a bone stew with lots of veg added in 3kgs of chopped tenderized steak for a bit more meatiness. Served on pap with coleslaw, potato salad and a mixed salad. Loads of sandwiches from Glenoaks Remedial School🙏. Fruit salad and yougurt and a big bag of crisps,fruit and Stoney ginger beer for everyone.
Thank you to Feed a Child for all the help and yummy things that are constantly being donated, Louis Green grocer express for the salad, Yomi and Toli for the eggs and all our wonderful donors and volunteers who care about feeding the less fortunate.

Another crazy day at Kencare at Kensington Methodist .The church is under major construction and I decided that we would do polony sandwiches 🤣🤣. Well, with all the veg and fruit we got from our wonderful donors, it landed up to be a bit more than just sandwiches 😱.
Got loads of potatoes, so with the eggs that we got last week from Yomi and Toli I decided on a big potato salad. I made coleslaw with red cabbage, green cabbage, carrots, pineapple, apples, dressed in orange juice and oil. Sandwiches were avo mash, polony and tomato. Lots of sarmies from Glenoaks Remedial School 🙏.To drink they got some yogi sip or mageu and a fruit salad and extra apple for dessert.
Walking around outside to collect bowls and spoons so many people thanked me for a lovely meal.

So, many people celebrated Christmas in July but at Kencare at Kensington Methodist we had Christmas in August!❤️❤️
After going into a complete tailspin hearing Pick n Pay QualiSave Darras had closed their doors on Thursday we were so blessed this week. First of all Grant, 🙏 sent in lots of wraps, then Wendy arrived with boxes of tortillas. Juana Martins arrived with loads of hamburger buns.
So I decided to make chicken wraps, when I ran out of chicken filling (6kgs of chicken breasts and veggies) I then made a pot of beef and lentil mince. Made 200 wraps😱. Panic mode... Looked so small!! Got my son to bring home 4 kgs of chicken polony for the rolls. Organised salad veg from Louis Green grocer express 🙏🙏 and then I got a call from P'nP Darras to come collect rolls, cakes, biscuits and veg. WOW! Thank you so much Brad and his wonderful team from P'nP, you will be sorely missed by many. Such a tearful moment saying goodbye to those wonderful people. I also managed to get lots of frozen veg for further cooking.
The meal was wraps, pasta salad, mixed salad, polony and tomato rolls, lots of sandwiches from Glenoaks Remedial School . Cold drink from Sodastream South Africa followed by yogurt, bananas, cake, biscuits, more cakes🤣🤣
Everyone who passed me told me how they enjoyed the meal. They all went home with meel, soya, bag of popcorn and a hope jar ,🙏 Glenoaks and Rand Preparatory and College . Kids were treated to sweets and chips from Estelle🙏
Thank you to everyone who has heeded my shout out for mens shoes (Jeppe Girls collected quite a lot🙏 and we've had others donated too)
Sometimes a situation seems like the end of the world and a mountain that we can't climb but I do believe that God has a special plan for Kencare and that is why he put so many special people in my life.

Another hearty meal at Kencare at Kensington Methodist today! Always so nice to know people are eating a good meal especially in the cold weather!
Had sweet potatoes and butternut and made a big pot of soup. Got rolls from Pick n Pay QualiSave Darras 🙏 buttered them and served it with the soup. The main meal was a whole sausage and chips (Louis from Greengrocer express 🙏) in a tomato gravy served over samp, with a lovely salad and pasta salad(Fatima Goncalves 🙏 mayo and all the other goodies) Lots of yummy sandwiches from Glenoaks Remedial School🙏.
Because our fundraiser on Sunday was such a great success, we had some money to buy loaves of bread and gave out magerine with it.
We don't have enough funds to buy blankets this year and Kensington bowling club on Ivanhoe has agreed to collect for our needy. so I'm sending out an appeal to residents and schools in our area.. Jeppe High school for Boys , Jeppe High School for Girls , Glenoaks Remedial School etc. We are facing a really cold winter. If you have extra blankets, socks, beenies, scarves, shoes, jackets, warm kids clothes , that are in good condition, and you don't need them, either drop them off at Kencare on a Wednesday morning or Kensington club or call me to drop off at my home.

Another gourmet day at Kencare today!
A really chilly day so soup was on the menu.
2 pots of soup, one carrot and coriander and the other veggie soup.
Still had mince meat from Chefs with Compassion and made pasata with lots of tomatoes that I got from Pick n Pay QualiSave Darras . last week. Used up the last of the mozzarella cheese we were given from Fatima Goncalves and made a pasta bolognese.
Adewole from Lagos In Jozi African Food Stuffs brought us eggs last week and I made egg mayonnaise which we used for open sandwiches. I also bought polony and used the bread from Adewole to make polony sarmies. And also for the fruit.🙏
Lovely salad courtesy of Pick 'n Pay Darras was made by the volunteers with apples, oranges etc and mayo (Fatima 🙏) and lots of sandwiches from Glenoaks Remedial School .

Another good day at Kencare at Kensington Methodist .
We haven't made pap for a while as I was unable to find Quick cook mieliemeel anywhere. But I decided that we would just use normal mieliemeel. So, 2 big pots of pap, sausage and veg stew, potato and egg salad, mixed salad, bread , rolls and sandwiches and pudding of cake and custard and an apple and cold drink was the faire today.
Everyone enjoyed it and even came up for 2nds. They also got sweet packs, teabags and shampoo.
Bennell came out to help with CVs.🙏

A gourmet day at Kencare at Kensington Methodist today. I always say we are not a soup kitchen but a feeding scheme and today was no exception!
I made green bean beef stew with rice, gem squash, veggies in cheese sauce, coleslaw, zucchini fritters and French salad. We got lots of sandwiches. Yomi and Tola dropped off another 2 boxes of bananas and 10kgs onions🙏.
I made custard and Stephen diligently chopped the bananas. Everyone had plenty to eat and drink.
Maddie and Jodi from Glenoaks joined Joy Smith to entertain the kids.
