These highlights are curated with the benefit of three trips to Cairo.
🌼The pyramids of Giza and Sphinx complex. Get around on a camel, horse carriage or car. Use a tour company of book Sherif through Guruwalk. He's one of the best guides I've encountered.
🌼The Egyptian museum is a treasure trove with artifacts from Egypt of the Pharaohs. You'll see masks, mummies, statues, manuscripts, art, accessories, thrones and more. You'll be charged for your ticket and camera.
🌼Khan el Khalili bazaar. Low quality goods at significantly marked up prices. However, and this is important, you also find treasures here. Combine with experiencing Al Moez, one of the oldest streets in Cairo. GuruWalk.
🌼Downtown Cairo + Heliopolis for the buildings and squares. Start at the Baron palace in and walk to any direction. Keep walking. You'll get a cab back to your hotel when you're done. You have to walk in Cairo. Soak it up. Always stop for a tea break to experience the café culture. Unguided experience.
🌼Islamic Cairo + Al Azhar Park. Islamic Cairo has some of the oldest mosques in the city. It's my favourite experience in Cairo. Al Azhar Park used to be a dumping ground, which makes its magnificence all the more awesome. Use or tour company.
🌼Experience any of the following palaces: Amir Taz, Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Pacha, Manial Palace and Aisha Fahmy Palace. Unguided experience.
🌼This is for you ONLY if you take things for what they are. Sunset sail or dinner cruise on the Nile River. You'll be bopping up and down one stretch of the river.

Switch on your notifications. I have more content with what you eat, where to sleep, reviews and stories of my experiences in Cairo and Egypt. I'll also be answering questions about visiting Egypt. Drop yours in the comments 🌻.

I have been travelling Africa since 2008 and my wishlist is still the same: no visas, down with a tourism market that undervalues enabling intra-Africa travel, and a special mention to East African countries for pricing the everyday people of Africa out of unique experiences that are only found in the region, like climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, trekking mountain gorillas in DRC, Uganda and Rwanda.
I'm devastated that the Wildebeest migration - a childhood dream - could very well be a pipe dream.
A special mention to Kenya and Tanzania having the most beautiful game reserves in the world, that us regular Africans who are not citizens have to save really had to experience.

The day travelling Africa with an African passport and African currency because effortlessly affordable will be a very happy one!

So, Cairo is calling your name and you've decided to check it out. Great choice. It's one of the most incredible cities in the world - chaotic, serene, gritty, gorgeous, so elegant and graceful, so utterly messy. Cairo will make you love it. It'll make you wonder: "WTF".
These tips will make your stay in a city that can be pretty overwhelming.
Here's what you need on arrival
🧚🏾a negative Covid-19 test taken with in72 hours of entering Egypt
🧚🏾Patience. People push their hustle, many persistently. It starts at the airport. It's relentless in Giza and at Khan el Khalil - all places that you will experience while in Cairo.
🧚🏾A firm "No". Don't feel awkward about it because you will be ripped off without it.
🧚🏾Arrive with a fully charged phone and Uber app. After collecting your luggage, head directly to the Vodafone/Orange/Etisalat counter to buy a SIM and data - lots of it. Wifi is widely available but getting connected can be an issue.
🧚🏾Money. A rule that has never failed me - never leave the airport without getting local cash. There are ATMs everywhere in Cairo but money in the pocket has never let a traveller down
🧚🏾Uber. Patience is handy in Cairo and indeed Egypt. Uber drivers in Cairo don't know the city. Some don't show up at your exact location. Other cancel trips or simply drive past you.
🧚🏾Tips. People love them. Some are polite about it, only insisting gently that you give them a tip. Others are pushy. The woman who followed us to the lift at the airport was downright weird for wanting a tip for saying hello to us.
🧚🏾Egypt is a Muslim country. Cairo has many identities. Cosmopolitan is one of them. Still, you can't dress like summer in the US.
🧚🏾You have 72 hours before you leave Cairo to return home or move on to your next destination. Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital is your go-to place for a Covid test. It costs 1,500 and 2,500 Egyptian Pounds for a normal test and an emergency test. Results for the normal test take 24 hours. Show up with cash and your passport. The testing centre is open 7 days.

I'm kicked off my day with a break ❤️.

Thank you and for this delicious treat. I can't decide on what's more exciting between getting this surprise, experiencing the marriage between two brands that my tummy knows very well and the kremy chocolate fillings 😋.
One question: why is it limited edition? I'm already addicted!

Which one are you having on your break? White, Dark or Belgian chocolate?
Yummy!

Uganda (the Pearl of Africa) and Djibouti City (the Pearl of the Gulf of Tadjoura).
