2 Kings 4:1-7 NIV
[1] The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.” [2] Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” [3] Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. [4] Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” [5] She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. [6] When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing. [7] She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”

The Problem
The widow's husband, a man who served in the company of the prophets, had died, leaving her with debts. In ancient times, creditors could legally take children as payment or slaves.

The Assessment
When Elisha asked what she possessed, she noted she had nothing left in her house except a single small jar of olive oil.

The Instruction
Elisha told her to borrow as many empty jars as possible from her neighbors. She was to shut the door behind her and her sons and pour the oil into the empty containers.

The Miracle
As she poured, he limited supply of oil miraculously multiplied. It filled every jar she had borrowed and only stopped when there were no more empty vessels left to pour into.
The Provision
Elisha instructed her to sell the newly accumulated oil, pay off her creditors, and use the remaining funds to support herself and her sons.

God reigns supreme over all earthly powers, consistently proving His sovereignty, miraculous provision, and grace. He demands exclusive trust, faithfully provides in times of desperation, and judges human arrogance while extending remarkable mercy to both His people and their enemies. Mark 11:24 NIV
[24] Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Believing Before Seeing: The verse highlights the importance of having confident assurance in God, treating His promises as reality even before the physical outcome is visible.
Faith Over Doubt: It encourages praying with a mindset free of doubt. When you ask, you are instructed to trust completely in God's power and goodness.

Job 22:27-28 NIV
[27] You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows. [28] What you decide on will be done, and light will shine on your ways.

Declarations: Verse 28 says, "You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you". This highlights the power of speaking faith-filled words. When your declarations align with God's Word, you shift your focus from your problems to His promises, allowing Him to establish your steps.Intimacy in Prayer: The promise of God hearing you (v. 27) rests on maintaining an open, honest relationship with Him. Prayer is not a religious duty, but a daily dialogue where you can bring your hopes, struggles, and commitments to a listening Father.Divine Guidance: The phrase "light will shine on your ways" (v. 28) represents God's direction and favor. In seasons of uncertainty or confusion, His presence provides the clarity and wisdom you need to move forward confidently.

Isaiah 55:10-12 NIV
[10] As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, [11] so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. [12] You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

Stuck in the Middle

Pastor Basha

Christ Cornerstone Ministries

God heard the cries of the Israelites in Egypt and promised to deliver them from slavery.

“I have indeed seen the misery of My people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers… So I have come down to rescue them.”
Exodus 3:7–8

Although God set them free, the Israelites later longed for the comfort and familiarity of Egypt.

“We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost…”
Numbers 11:5

They became stuck between bo***ge and promise, struggling to fully trust God in the wilderness. Even while moving toward the Promised Land, they often desired to return to what once oppressed them.

Lot’s wife experienced something similar while fleeing S***m and Gomorrah. God instructed them not to look back.

“Flee for your lives! Don’t look back…”
Genesis 19:17

Yet she still looked back.

“But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”
Genesis 19:26

Her looking back symbolized an emotional attachment to a past God was delivering her from.

Jesus later referenced this moment as a warning:“Remember Lot’s wife.”Luke 17:32In the New Testament, Jesus teaches that...

Jesus later referenced this moment as a warning:

“Remember Lot’s wife.”
Luke 17:32

In the New Testament, Jesus teaches that old mindsets cannot contain what God wants to do next.

“And no one pours new wine into old wineskins… New wine must be poured into new wineskins.”
Luke 5:37–38

Many believers today are spiritually stuck in the middle:
• physically out of bo***ge but mentally attached to it
• praying for healing while holding onto toxic patterns
• asking for new seasons while resisting inner transformation

Looking back today can look like:
• romanticizing unhealthy relationships or past seasons
• craving familiar dysfunction because healing feels uncomfortable
• returning to habits God delivered you from
• grieving what God removed instead of embracing where He is leading you

The message of the sermon is that freedom is not only about leaving a place physically. True deliverance happens when the heart, mind, and spirit fully surrender to God’s process of transformation.

God is calling His people to stop looking back, trust Him in the wilderness, and become new wineskins ready for the promise ahead.

Psalms 20:6-8 NIV
[6] Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand. [7] Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. [8] They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.

Haggai 2:9 NIV
[9] ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”

Matthew 7:7-8 NIV
[7] “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. [8] For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
