We must continue to raise global education and awareness to support people with sickle cell disease.

βAs someone living with , it is my hope that new medications become more accessible to patients in developing countries. I also hope that governments and health authorities in these countries recognize as a public health priority and strengthen partnerships with patient-based organizations to implement national policies such as newborn screening. This will not only facilitate early diagnosis and treatment, it will also reduce the prevalence of in the long term. Additionally, initiatives that increase education and help alleviate the stigma and inequities faced by patients at health institutions are needed.β - RenΓ© Esdaille, Board Member, Global Alliance of Sickle Cell Disease Organizations
