The girls and women who come to protest against us try to silence us with their own voices.
To shout louder. To make more noise. To drown out our prayers.

But our voice is not measured by the volume of a shout.
It is the voice of women who have been praying at the Kotel for 37 years.

And a voice like that cannot be silenced.

"....“When the security guard takes a megaphone to disrupt the Torah reading and attempts to forcibly take the Torah scroll from us, this constitutes a brutal violation and an unprecedented assault on freedom of worship,” the group says in a statement, calling the conduct of security personnel “a green light for continued silencing and violence at the Wall.” "

There are those who came to pray.
And there are those who came to disrupt, shout, and prevent others from praying.

They can tell themselves whatever they want. The real desecration and disgrace come from the women, girls, men, and boys who arrived with one purpose: to stop others from praying—while urging one another, “Shout louder. Disrupt more. Kick their legs.”

No matter how they try to justify it, preventing others from praying is not an act of faith.

Shame.

You're not men," Natalie Dadon and the group of women who call themselves the 'Angels of the Wall' told us during our prayer service.

They're right.

We are not men.

We are religious Jewish women from all denominations who come to the Kotel to pray.

Yet while we came with prayer books and songs, they came to shout, disrupt, and drown out our voices.

Tomorrow, they are expected to return.

We will return too, as we have for decades - to pray, as women.
Join us.

Five years ago, on Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, it happened right before our eyes.

A group of incited teenage boys grabbed a suitcase filled with Women of the Wall prayer books and tore to shreds 39 prayer books.

Dozens of security guards and police officers were present, yet no one stopped this act of vandalism and desecration.

Five years later, the reality at the Kotel has not improved enough. Every month we face shouting, insults, threats, and deliberate attempts to disrupt women’s prayer. Just last month, a group of women calling themselves the “Angels of the Kotel” spent the entire service yelling, pushing, and harassing worshippers.

And yet, there are those who want the public to believe that the problem is not the violence, not the incitement, and not the desecration of prayer books—but women’s prayer itself. The bill proposed by Avi Maoz seeks to portray women’s prayer at the Kotel as a desecration of a holy site.

We say clearly:
Prayer is not desecration.
Women who pray are not the problem.

Now, more than ever, it is important that we show up and join WOW:

Today, the Knesset Constitution Committee held a discussion on MK Galit Distel’s proposed bill, “Realizing Jewish Identity in the Public Sphere.”

At this stage, the bill focuses on protecting the right to set up tefillin stands in public spaces without interference (a message to the Jerusalem Municipality, which continues to ignore our requests to set up such stands), and the right to pray in public spaces without disruption—provided that the prayer is not considered a demonstration or the promotion of a political agenda.

During the discussion, WOW's Executive Director expressed support for the bill’s stated principles. After all, this is exactly what we have been demanding for years: the right of Jews to pray according to their beliefs and customs without interference.

But then it became clear that the Western Wall is excluded from the bill’s scope, as it is considered a unique legal and administrative space and therefore will not be addressed under this legislation.

The chair of the discussion, MK Yitzhak Pindrus, then made his position clear, stating: “Your prayer is absolutely a demonstration.”

So what is this bill really about?

Realizing Jewish identity in the public sphere—or strengthening the rabbinic monopoly over how Jews are allowed to express that identity and pray?
