When Should We Take the Bible Literally?

Dr. Matt DeLockery (Ph.D. Radboud University Nijmegen) will help us understand when the Bible is intending to be metaphorical, merely communicate a theological point, or tell us what actually happened in the past. He will also cover some important problem passages in both the Old and New Testaments. Q&A to follow.

Join us at 6:30PM in IC 109.

As we continue through our Worldviews at Work series, our next discussion will be on gender roles. While this can be a divisive and charged topic, our goal is to have an honest respectful discussion where we have the opportunity to bring our diverse worldviews to bear on the subject. To that end, feel free to think through the following questions in preparation for the discussion:

1. From your perspective, does the given topic actually exist? Why or why not?
2. From your perspective, what is the significance of the given topic?
3. From your perspective, should the given topic exist? Why or why not?

We look forward to seeing you Monday!

This upcoming Monday will be the start of our Worldviews at Work series! There are a ton of different worldviews represented on campus, and how you view the world will radically impact how you handle and understand the elements of everyday life. We will be meeting in Rom 109 of the Instructional Center at 6:30 pm on Monday!

This series is an opportunity to discuss how our worldviews are at work informing our perspectives on these everyday elements. Each week we will be discussing one specific element of life, and this week it will be on work and stress, a very relevant topic to the Georgia Tech student experience. We welcome your opinion whatever it may be, and if you are interested in coming, here is a list of questions that we will be thinking about for each topic as we go through the series:

1. From your perspective, does the given topic actually exist? Why or why not?
2. From your perspective, what is the significance of the given topic?
3. From your perspective, should the given topic exist? Why or why not?

In many American religious circles, evolution can be treated as a bad word, a topic that is swept under the rug and ignored to keep the peace. This of course makes it a perfect subject for a discussion at Why Should I Believe.

On Monday, January 13th at 6:30PM we will be meeting in room 109 of the Instructional Center to discuss the origins of the human race.

God, Humanity, and Time

Time is an ever-present reality in our lives and in the universe. What do philosophers, theologians, and scientists have to say about it? Join us Monday 10/21 in IC 109 at 6:30 PM for a presentation and discussion on some of these topics:

"How does God interact with time?"
"How do humans interact with time?"
"What was it like 'before' the beginning of time?"

Is Religious Faith Provable?

Religious faith is often considered to be faith unprovable. Or, to put it another way, faith-related claims are often considered to be impossible to prove. The question of the day becomes what does it actually mean for something to be proven?

Join Why Should I Believe on Monday at 6:30 in room 109 of the Instructional Center as we discuss the nature and role of proof in faith-related dialogue.
