TOPIC:* MAN BORN OF GOD

TEXT:1ST JOHN 5:1-5

VERSE OF THE DAY: "AND AS WE HAVE BORNE THE IMAGE OF THE MAN OF DUST, WE SHALL ALSO BEAR THE IMAGE OF THE HEAVENLY MAN"- 1ST CORINTHIANS 15:49.

One thing that can never be lacking in the life of any man born of God is the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) of God. The complete nature of God is contained in His DNA, and that is what any parent must transfer to his child. According to our text, the nature that characterizes any man born of God includes:

1. Love: 1st John 4:7:- Of all the fruit of the Spirit, love is the only one that embodies the full nature of God- 1st John 4:9. If God is love, then anyone born of God cannot be lagging behind in love. This is one major distinguishing factor between a man born of God and a man born of woman. No man born of woman can fully keep the law; but we who are born of God live above the law when we live in love.

2. Obedience: 1st John 5:18, Philippians 2:5-8:- We know that the first step to being born again (i.e. born of God) is accepting Jesus' Lordship- John 3:3-5, and that can only be done in obedience to the word of God. After that, continued, complete obedience to God's commandments to abstain from sin and anything that could offend Him is what makes us God's children. Satan disobeyed from the beginning, so no born-again lives in disobedience- 1st John 3:9.

3. Victory Vs 4: No man born into the kingdom of God lives under the dominion of this evil world. We have the provision for victory just as we mention the name of our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ. Also, the truth enlightens us in this kingdom, gives the right knowledge, wisdom and understanding that keeps us on the victorious path as we ply the courses of this life- John 1:1-13). God is too great to have failures and victims as His children.

PRAYER: Anything that cannot be found in God my Father can never be found in me henceforth, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

TOPIC:*MAN BORN OF WOMAN

TEXT: JOB 14:1-6

VERSE OF THE DAY:
"AND ADAM CALLED HIS WIFE'S NAME EVE BECAUSE SHE WAS THE MOTHER OF ALL LIVING"- GENESIS 3:20.

Man is defined as an adult male human being. But Biblically, it refers to all human beings – male and female. Consequent upon the sin of man's first parents, certain decadence contrary to the plan of God for man was introduced. From the fall ofAdam and Eve up till now, man born of a woman:

1. Is of Few Days: Genesis 3:22-24:- God has planned that man would live forever in this physical tent called body. That is why He provided the tree of life which would sustain the health and life span of man as long as he takes it. Due to disobedience, man was cast out of the garden without having to eat of that tree of life. Consequently, man's physical tent grows old, weak and dies finally. Every man born of a woman will one day wear off this physical tent in death. So let us be encouraged when our loved ones die because this is a price all fallen human owe nature.

2. Is Full of Troubles: Genesis 3:16-19:- God's intention for man was an Eden experience, but the fall of man introduced curses, worries, poverty, illness, pains, fear. Man was cast out of Eden where he enjoyed provision, security and peace. Today, man lives his every day in efforts to solve problems which can never end as long as we live in this fallen estate.

3. Is as a Shadow: Job 14:14:- According to 2nd Peter 3:8-13, nothing in this present physical world is eternal. One day, man will wake up to the true realities of his existence. A time will come when people in their real nature will be placed in their eternal abode based on what they did here in this present earth- Revelation 20:11-15.

Now that you know that nothing of this fallen human nature is of eternal benefit, why not pursue those things that are of eternal value?

PRAYER: Lord, please give me the grace to conquer this world, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

DAILY GRACE, THURSDAY, March 8TH, 2018.

TOPIC:* HOW TO GROW YOUR FAITH (PART2)

TEXT: 2ND THESSALONIANS 1:3-6

VERSE OF THE DAY:
"OUR FAITH GROWS EXCEEDINGLY, AND THE LOVE OF EVERY ONE OF YOU ALL ABOUNDS TOWARD EACH OTHER"- 2ND THESSALONIANS 1:3...

Faith is not a static gift of the Holy Spirit. It can start as little as a mustard seed, but surely grows into a gigantic tree if well nurtured. Today, we shall see some other virtues necessary for faith growth.

1.Increase In Love Level- 1cor.2:9-10:- One thing that attracts God to a man is the amount of love such a man lavishes on fellow humans for the sake of God. The revelations of God's special blessings are for those who love God- 1st Corinthians 2:9-10. Walking in love also makes all things work for a man's good, no matter the odds in the way- Romans 8:28. Do you now see that walking in love endears you to God and friendship with God on the other hand increases your faith? It is the love for God that will compel you to offer sacrificially. People like Abraham, David, Solomon, Jesus, Paul, etc offered their best because of their love for God.

2. Increase In Your Fear For God- Psalm. 25:12-14:- People are attracted ordinarily to those who obey and reverence them. It is the same with our walk with God. When we fear God, we attract God's attention. And when He comes, revelations are born. Revelations on its own breed faith. The fear of God will make a man to abstain from anything he knows will offend God. People like Joseph, Job and Daniel are reputed for abstaining from certain evils because they feared God. The fear of God brings wisdom- Proverbs 1:7, and wisdom builds faith.

3. Increase Through Trials- James 1:2-4:- I believe that your most treasured possessions are the ones you procured through hard labours and sacrifices. In the same way, lessons and faith acquired during the days of trouble mature us better and bring the best out of us- Romans 8:18. Our faith always grows and makes sense whenever we get to the end of the tunnel. To avoid trials is to eschew the opportunity for growth, development and maturity of our faith. So be steadfast in trials.

PRAYER: Holy Father, please increase my faith, in Jesus' name, Amen.

DAILY GRACE, WEDNESDAY, 7TH MARCH, 2018.

TOPIC:* HOW TO GROW YOUR FAITH

TEXT: 2ND PETER 1:5-10

VERSE OF THE DAY: "BUT YOU, BELOVED, BUILDING YOURSELVES UP ON YOUR MOST HOLY FAITH, PRAYING IN THE HOLY SPIRIT"- JUDE 20.

Our walk of faith with God can start as small as a grain of mustard seed, but is not permitted to continue (or end) as little as that. It must grow big. Therefore, for anyone to increase his faith he must;

1.Increase your Word Level- Acts 19:20. If faith comes by the entrance of the word of God- Rom.10:17, it therefore follows that increase in the volume of the word will also cause an increase in faith. The volume of the word you carry determines the number and nature of giants (and mountains) you can conquer. God cannot use you beyond the amount of the kingdom knowledge you possess. The more you study and assimilate the word, the more your faith grows. Again, what you need to withstand the enemy is the mobile shield of faith provided in God's armour- Ephesians 6:16, but you cannot lay hold on faith shield when the word does not abound in you- Rom.10:14.

2. Increase Your Kingdom Language Level Jude 20:- This life is a voice activated system- Genesis 1:3, Exodus 28:14. Whatever you confess, you possess. If faith gives us whatever we say according to God's will, it therefore follows that increase in our confession of God's mind delivers our demands and thereby build our faith- Mark 11:23-24, 1st John 5:14-15.

Our kingdom languages which grow our faith include:
(i) Prayers
(ii) Faith declarations
(iii) Positive confessions
(iv) Praying in tongues
(v) Prophetic utterances.

You must know that at the altar of communion, both God and man speak to each other. And whenever God speaks to man, faith is born.

Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, please help grow my faith, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

TEXT:GENESIS 48:8-20

VERSE OF THE DAY:
SO HE BLESSED THEM THAT DAY, SAYING, “BY YOU ISRAEL WILL BLESS, SAYING, 'MAY GOD MAKE YOU AS EPHRAIM AND MANASSEH!” AND thus HE SET EPHRAIM BEFORE MANASSEH"- GENESIS 48:20.

There is no free money anywhere, neither does change come spontaneously. Whatever of value you need in this life, you must work, serve or pay for it. Some parents fail to teach their children the principle of diligence; therefore, they grow up to be worthless in the society like the prodigal son. It is better to leave values for your children than to leave wealth for them. Wealth can vanish but they live by those principles. In Life we know that Joseph was a boy who sustained many attacks from men because of his dreams and morality. But how did he survive those ill treatments of men to the point of becoming an Egyptian Prime Minister? From the names Joseph gave his children in Genesis 41:50-51, we discovered that he so much yearned for two major things-settlement from his troubles and fruitfulness even in the land of troubles/captivity.

Manasseh means settlement from troubles, while Ephraim means fruitful in a strange land. By placing Ephraim ahead of Manasseh, God is teaching us through Jacob's crossing of hands that fruitfulness comes before settlement. Anybody who desires to live above the troubles of this life should first get busy with his live's assignment, being fruitful even in the midst of challenges. That is how Joseph survived his attacks. He did not fold his hands waiting for miracle, promotion or free money to fall from heaven, he was fruitful. What gave him recognition and promotion in Potiphar's house, prison and Pharaoh's house was diligent work. It was his work ability that attracted him promotion before Pharaoh not just his dream interpretation Genesis 41:37-45. To be fruitful is to be useful to God, yourself and humanity. Learn to place Ephraim ahead of Manasseh– work before pleasure.

TEXT: 2ND SAMUEL 13:23-29

VERSE OF THE DAY: BUT WHEN HE SAW MANY OF THE PHARISEES AND SADDUCEES COMING TO HIS BAPTISM, HE SAID TO THEM, “BROOD OF VIPERS! WHO WARNED YOU TO FLEE FROM THE WRATH TO COME?”- MATTHEW 3:7.

Wickedness increases by the day. These are days when men (even friends and relations) betray one another to satisfy their selfish interest. We now hear stories of those who killed another human (even their mother) for money ritual. But most of such people troop to church every Sunday. Like the Pharisees and Sadducees, they want to be saved while still in their atrocities.

Generations of vipers are humans who speak sugar-coated words but poison abounds in their heart. They speak the church language and sing the songs of Zion, but their hearts belong to hell. Going by their words and chameleon attitude, you can never know them. The only key to discovering them is by their fruits. That is why John the Baptist asked them to bear fruits worthy of repentance- Matthew 3:8). Did you ever notice that Sadducees and Pharisees never agree among themselves save when it comes to fighting and killing Jesus and His followers? That is how vipers behave. 2nd Samuel 13 is a chapter that shows the true nature of pretenders.

Amnon, David's oldest son, pretended to be sick, only to have s*x with his half- sister Tamar. On the other hand, Absalom, the brother to Tamar planned to revenge his sister's defilement on Amnon for two solid years. Within these years, he attended church regularly, heard several sermons, yet never had a change of heart. He planned a banquet for the king's sons, only to execute his revenge mission on Amnon. Finally, Absalom killed Amnon, his half-brother because the seed of viper dwelt in him.

TOPIC:* THE DANGER OF SEXUAL SINS

TEXT: ROMANS 1:26-27

VERSE OF THE DAY: "DON'T YOU REALISE THAT THOSE WHO DO WRONG WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD? DON'T FOOL YOURSELVES. THOSE WHO INDULGE IN SEXUAL SIN, OR WHO WORSHIP IDOLS, OR COMMIT ADULTERY, OR ARE MALE PROSTITUTES, OUR PRACTICE HOMOSEXUALITY"- 1ST CORINTHIANS 6:9 (NLT).

We live in a world where men and women drink sin like water. Sexual sins and immoral lifestyles have become the order of the day. This evil cuts across all segments of the society. Teenagers are not free from it. Our youths also revel in this evil. Surprisingly, it is worse among the married couples as we see many of them breaking the sacred vow they took before God, to stay faithful to their partners with impunity despite the warnings of the Scriptures. Unfortunately, even amongst believers, this sin is said to be common even from the days of Apostle Paul- 1st Corinthians 5:1.

Our world has gone crazy. Today we have all kinds of reality television shows where men and women are brought together under one roof to have illicit s*x so that the rest of the world can watch and applaud them. At the end of such show of shame, winners are rewarded with Porsche Cars and thousands or millions in cash- sometimes in hard currency.

In the light of the fore going, it becomes important that we heed the instruction of our verse of the day. It says that those who indulge in s*xual sins will not inherit the Kingdom ofGod.

Are you still indulging in immortality? We counsel you today to repent and forsake that lifestyle before it is too late. The trumpet that will usher believers into the Kingdom of our Lord is about to sound. Stop playing with fire. Show God some respect. Honour Him with your body. Stay faithful to your partner if you are married. Abstain from s*x if you are yet to marry; wait for the right time and for your own spouse.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I consecrate my body afresh to you. Purge my life and my mind of all immoral thoughts and actions, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

TEXT: JOHN 13:35

VERSE OF THE DAY: "NO ONE HAS EVER SEEN GOD; BUT IF WE LOVE ONE ANOTHER, GOD LIVES IN US AND HIS LOVE IS MADE COMPLETE IN US"- 1ST JOHN 4:12 (NIV).

Another pivotal reason to love the brethren is that it demonstrates the existence of God to the world. John was absolutely right when he said that no one had seen God at any time. He, however, maintains that when we demonstrate and express our love towards one another, we show the world around us that God dwells in us. Does your lifestyle prove the existence of God to those around you? What does your love say about your commitment to God?

When we refuse to love the brethren, it says a lot about who and what we truly are. We can sing diverse of songs of praise and worship - and this is good; we can also serve God and the Church in various capacities and this is also commendable and expected; but if in the midst of all these reverential activities we still find it difficult to love our brothers and sisters, then something is seriously wrong with our Christianity. Is this the case with your life?

When we obey God by loving each other and extending the love beyond the household of faith, we give the world a solid evidence that God lives in us. It becomes a clear witness to them that God also desires to live in them if they embrace the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is no stronger evidence and that is why love for one another is not negotiable. Jesus said: "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another"- John 13:35 (NKJV).

Do you switch off your love button when someone hurts your feelings? We need to forgive one another. Take that initiative. Reconcile. Forgive them. Make it right. Keep short accounts. Your heart is too precious a place to carry malice. Refuse to be bitter with those who may have hurt you. Be gracious in your love. Remember, the nearest place where the world can see the invisible God is in the Church. However, the question is: What do they see when they peep into our churches? Do they see the fear of God and the love of God amongst us? The only way they will see God is if we are displaying godly characteristics.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, move in my heart and life and help me to love my brethren even more and more, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

DAILY GRACE, FRIDAY, MARCH 2ND, 2018.

REASONS TO LOVE (5)

TEXT: 1ST JOHN 4:7-11

VERSE OF THE DAY: "DEAR FRIENDS, SINCE GOD SO LOVED US, WE ALSO OUGHT to LOVE ONE ANOTHER"- 1ST JOHN 4:7-11 (NIV).

It is no secret that the Lord loved us unconditionally by giving His life for us. John captured it so well: "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!..."- 1st John 3:1 (NIV).This is an extravagant love. He paid the price for our sins, He wrote our names in the Book of Life and gave us an everlasting inheritance among the saints in the light. What an awesome love!

The question now is: how do we react to this indescribable love? What should be our response to this overwhelming outpouring of grace and love upon us? Our verse of the day has the answer: "Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another"- 1st John 4:7-11 (NIV). Our least response to God's love upon our lives is to love our brothers and sisters in Christ with the same genuine and sincere love.

Jesus told us a parable about the unforgiving servant. He owed his Master a debt which he could not pay and his Master in his benevolence wrote it off. But when he saw a fellow servant, who was owing him a very insignificant sum of money, he forgot how his own debt was forgiven and insisted that his fellow servant must pay. When his Master heard it, he arrested him and put him behind bars until he had paid all that he owed. Jesus ended the story by saying that God will do the same to us if we do not forgive our brother from our heart- Matthew 18:21-35.

One reason why we fail to love is because of a perceived offence which we can attribute to a brother's action or a sister's action. We too have offended God in countless ways and He forgave us when we sought His forgiveness. He expects us to do the same to our brethren. In the same vein, since He has loved us so lavishly, we ought to love our brothers and sisters too. Do you agree with God on this? Would you rather continue to give yourself reasons why they do not deserve your love?

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me respond to my brethren with the same love where with You have loved me, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

TEXT: JOHN 13:34

VERSE OF THE DAY: "AND THIS IS HIS COMMAND: TO BELIEVE IN THE NAME OF HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST, AND TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS HE COMMANDED US"- 1ST JOHN 3:23.

Another biblical and resounding reason why we should love one another is because it is God's commandment. The commandment of the Lord are to be obeyed implicitly. In our verse of the day, we see that we are commanded to love each other. In other words, love is not a choice; it is mandatory that, as believers, we should love one another. God does not take disobedience to his commandments lightly. King Saul is a good example of how God reacts to disobedience to His commandments: " But now your kingdom shall not continue... because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you "- 1st Samuel 13:14 (NKJV).

Are you in a habit of flouting the commandments of the Almighty God? If the answer is yes, then you are threading on a dangerous ground. Remember that it was disobedience that brought satan down from the exalted position where God had placed him. It was disobedience that also drove Adam and Eve out of the beautiful Garden of Eden where God had placed them. Why do you think your own case will be different when you disobey Him?

Love is a commandment from God to us. Jesus speaking to His disciples, said: " a new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another "- John 13:34 (NASB). Are you choosy about those to love in the Body of Christ? Those who hate their brethren, for whatever reason, are in danger of spending eternity in hell. Listen to what the Holy Spirit said through John the beloved: " Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him"- 1st John 3:15. Are you a murderer?

The church of Jesus Christ is like a family and in every family, love is a prerequisite and a priority to dwell together in peace and harmony. Make the family of God a peaceful place by loving your brothers and sisters sincerely. Obey this new commandment from Jesus. Walk in love on a daily basis. Refuse to be counted among the disobedient. Empty your heart of all forms of hatred.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, give me the grace to follow the pathway of love. Remove all forms of hatred from my heart, in Jesus' name, Amen.

TEXT: 1ST JOHN 3:10-11

VERSE OF THE DAY: "THIS IS HOW WE KNOW WHO THE CHILDREN OF GOD ARE AND WHO THE CHILDREN OF THE DEVIL ARE: ANYONE WHO DOES NOT DO WHAT IS RIGHT IS NOT GOD'S CHILD, NOR IS ANYONE WHO DOES NOT LOVE THEIR BROTHER AND SISTER"- 1ST John 3:10 (NIV).

Another important reason why we should love one another is to prove that Christianity is a way of life and not just another empty and lifeless religion. Our verse of the day clearly shows us how we can identify those who are children of God and those who are the children of the devil:"...Anyone who does not do what is right is not God's child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister"- 1st John 3:10 (NIV). Do you strive always to do what is right? Do you love your brothers and sisters genuinely?

The evidence that we are now the children of God is that our personalities and our lifestyles are changed to reflect that of the one who has become the Lord of our lives. The world in their spiritual ignorance cannot understand, on their own, the things of the Spirit of God. We can only strive to help them find that which we have already obtained ourselves through faith. We can only do this through living a life of righteousness and as we display unadulterated love for one another.

Jesus did not just speak of love, He exemplified love. He was moved with compassion as He witnessed the multitudes scattered as sheep without a shepherd. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, encouraged the lonely, and gave Himself on the cross for our sin. He gave His life so that we might have life and have it more abundantly. This is how God expects us to relate to one another. The Bible says: "Dear children, let's not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions"- 1st John 3:18 (NLT).

The world around us is watching how we relate with the members of the household of faith. While we are expected to do good to all, the Bible made a special and personal reference to our fellow believers. Look at this Scripture: "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith"- Galatians 6:10.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to live a life of righteousness and love so that I might become a showcase of your grace to my generation, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

TEXT: ROMANS 13:8-9

VERSE OF THE DAY:
"OWE NO ONE ANYTHING EXCEPT TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER, FOR HE WHO LOVES ANOTHER HAS FULFILLED THE LAW"- ROMANS 13:8 (NKJV).

Like we mentioned last yesterday, there are several Bible-based reasons why we must love one another, especially as children of God. Today we want to look at one of such reasons to love each other. A look at our verse of the day shows that "he who loves has fulfilled the law". In order words, loving one another helps us to fulfill the laws of God. This assertion may sound strange to some of us, but it is, really, the truth.

To elaborate on this statement, Paul went on to say: "For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely,“You shall love your neighbor as yourself”- Romans 13:9 (NKJV). What the Bible is saying is this: The root cause of every sin is the absence of love for one another.

Let us take example from the commandment: "You shall not commit adultery". As a man or woman, if you truly love the other man or woman, you will not go to bed with his or her spouse! Remember what Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount: "Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets"- Matthew 7:12 (NLT). This Scripture is known as "The Golden rule".

Later on in the Scriptures, Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment is? He simply said: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments"- Matthew 22:37- 40 (NIV).

One practical way to love people as the Bible commanded is to imagine ourselves in their shoes. Will you do this from today? Are you willing to jettison all forms of selfishness in your life? My prayer is that the grace of God will abound towards you as you strive to love people and thereby fulfill the laws of Christ.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to understand that loving others helps me to fulfill Your will for my life, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

ACTION POINT: TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED!
