FRIDAY (15/03/2024)

'FLOURISHING ON EVERY SIDE' DAILY DEVOTIONAL
(For individuals, groups and families)

AVOIDING THE FOLLY OF THE PROFANE ESAU (2)
(Hebrews 12:15-17; Genesis 25:29-34)

MEMORY VERSE: "Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up troubling you, and thereby many be defiled; Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright" (Hebrews 12:15, 16).

The sad folly of Esau who despised his birthright and sold it for a morsel of porridge has been our focus in the devotional since yesterday. It is important that you go back and reread yesterday's devotional again, so that you will be able to understand fully the message of the Holy Spirit to us, believers in these last days.

THE TERRIBLE RESULTS OF LOOSING OUR BIRTHRIGHT
Hebrews 12:15-17; Genesis 49:3, 4; Judges 16:20, 21; 2 Kings 5:25-27; Acts 1:15-20; Revelation 21:14; 1 Kings 12:28-30; Judges 18:30, 31; Revelation 7:4-8
Whatever action we take today has great consequence tomorrow. It may look like it is bringing us some benefits today, but all will be temporary.

Loosing our birthright so as to get money, marriage, immoral pleasure, earthly promotion, fellowship with the ungodly, earthly position, popularity in ministry, etc, will eventually lead to horrible earthly and eternal loses with irredeemable consequences.

Every sin one commits brings some short time benefits and enjoyment, but eventually, there will be weeping, regret, sorrow and suffering. Esau wept sorrowfully. Reuben wept horribly. Dinah, the only daughter of Jacob, became quickly forgotten in God's programme with Israel. There was no mention of her anymore. Samson cried sorrowfully. Naaman, the servant of Elisha, and his generations after him became leprous forever. What of Judas Iscariot? He lost his ministry. He lost heaven. Dear brother, dear sister, no matter the temptation, do not sacrifice the joy of tomorrow and eternity at the altar of today's pleasure.

OUR TENACITY TO KEEP OUR BIRTHRIGHT TILL THE END
Daniel 1:8; Genesis 39:7-12; Jeremiah 35:1-18; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
No believer can keep his birthright if he does not make up his mind that, come what may, he will not trade his birthright with any earthly treasure or possession. Like Daniel in Babylon, Joseph in the land of Egypt, the children of Rachab (the Rachabites), Paul the apostles and so many others, who all resolved in their mind to resist temptation or any enticement to sin. They resolved never to sell off their birthright.

The world will promise you sky and earth if only you can surrender your birthright in exchange for the vanities of the world. But, if you are determined like these saints of old, the Lord will help you as He helped them to overcome also.

If we are going to be among those who kept their birthright till the end, we must, (i) focus on heavenly things, (ii) be faithful to God in all things, (iii) be fearless and bold in saying 'no' to sin, (iv) be faultless and holy in the secret and open, (v) fix our mind totally on the Lord and resolve never to turn back from Him, (vi) be fervent in spirit. Let the fire of holiness and determination for heaven be burning in your heart and life, and, (vii) be totally free from worldliness and its lusts.

Now, if you have sold your birthright, quickly come to the Lord today and cry unto Him for mercy in genuine repentance. He will have mercy, forgive and restore back the joy of your salvation.

Let us pray.

'FLOURISHING ON EVERY SIDE' DAILY DEVOTIONAL

THE SECRETS OF A LIFE THAT WINS
(1 Corinthians 16:13, 14)

MEMORY VERSE: "Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong" (1 Corinthians 16:13).

FULL TEXT: 1 Corinthians 16:1-24

God wants us to be victorious. He wants us to live the life that wins everyday (Deuteronomy 20:4; 1 Corinthians 15:57). He died and rose from the dead that we might be victorious and walk in dominion till we see Him in rapture. And, that is why He is sending this message to us in our devotion today.

The message is coming to us like to men in the military service (1 Corinthians 16:13). Remember of course, that we are soldiers of Christ (2 Timothy 2:3), engaged in a terrific warfare (Ephesians 6:12), with Christ our Captain leading before us (Hebrews 2:10).

As soldiers, the Spirit of the Lord is revealing unto us how we are to win every battle and walk victoriously everyday in all our journey on the earth.

To live a life that wins everyday, we must:

(1) WATCH (1 Corinthians 16:13). To watch is to keep spiritually awake and be vigilant. We must watch for the enemy without (worldliness) (1 John 2:15-17). We are to also watch for the enemy within (the flesh) (Romans 8:5-8), and, also watch for the enemy around (Satan) (1 Peter 5:8; 2 Corinthians 2:11).

(2) STAND FIRM IN THE FAITH (1 Corinthians 16:13; 15:58). To stand firm in the faith is to stand firm in our conviction of the Lord and His uncompromising holiness standard. This can only be possible if we are living daily by the Word of God. If we lack the Word of God in us, we will not grow into spiritual maturity, and we will not be able to stand firm (2 Timothy 2:15; 3:15-27).

(3) BE FIERCELY COURAGEOUS LIKE MEN (1 Corinthians 16:13). We are to rise up, not like immature babies, but as men who are growing into the full stature of the measure of Christ (Ephesians 4:13).

(4) BE STRONG (1 Corinthians 16:13). Beloved in the devotional hour today, do you want to live the life that wins? Then, be strong. To be strong is not to rely on your own strength, power, wisdom or knowledge, but, to rest completely on the Lord who is able to strengthen us with strength and might in the innermost being (2 Corinthians 3:5, 6; Ephesians 3 :16; Psalm 28:7; Isaiah 12:2).

(5) BE FILLED WITH CHRIST'S LOVE (1 Corinthians 16:14).
Love is the glorious mark of the believer's life. A life that wins is a life that, (1) loves the Lord (John 14:15), (2) loves and lives by God's Word (Psalm 119:47, 48, 127), (3) loves and lives holy life (Proverbs 4:24-27; Ephesians 1:4), (4) loves God's people (1 John 4:7-9), and (5) loves and hates no one, except their sins (Luke 10:25-37).

When Christ' agape love is dwelling in us, we will live to please Him everyday, and, He will make us victorious in all our lives' journeys, till we see Him in rapture.

Let us pray

WEDNESDAY (21/02/2024)

'FLOURISHING ON EVERY SIDE' DAILY DEVOTIONAL
(For individuals, groups and families)

THE SAD X-RAY OF A PRAYERLESS CHRISTIAN
Matthew 6:13; 26:41

MEMORY VERSE: "Moreover, as for me, God forbids that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way" (1 Samuel 12:23).

Any believer that will unlock heaven blessings, and be victorious in secret and in the open, must learn how to pray and rise up to aggressively pray in faith.

Prayer is so powerful that it has changed destiny, rebuild lands, transformed cities, and changed nations. No matter how tough a situation is, prayer will change it (2 Kings 20:1-11).

Prayer is the key to mighty, supernatural, life-changing revival (Habakkuk 3:2, 3). Revival ceases when prayer ceases. Because, it is only a flaming heart that can call down the fire of revival into his closet, from where it is distributed abroad.

Prayer is the only sure way out of trouble ((Psalm 91:15). It demobilizes the devil, paralyses his operations, renders him and his hosts jobless (Isaiah 52:5b).

A believer that is, faithful to the Lord, walking in holiness within and without, and, is aggressive in prayer can never, ever become a prey!

Prayer was the lifestyle of Jesus, the fiery robes of the Apostles, and the mighty force behind the great success of Christ disciples in the Early Church through the wondrous works pf the Holy Ghost (Matthew 14:23, 25; Luke 4:21, 22; 5:16, 17b, 9:28-30; 22:41, 43, 44; Acts 4:29-33).

This is why God calls us with a TIMELESS CALL TO PRAY.

Both from the Old Testament and the New Testament, God calls everyone who is called by His Name to pray (Psalm 145:18; Jeremiah 29:12, 13; Jeremiah 33:3; Matthew 7:7; 26:41; Mark 11:24; Luke 18:1).

A wise believer must yield to the call of the Lord and rise up to pray, not only now, but always. To refuse to pray is sin (1 Samuel 12:23). To remain prayerless is tragic and sad. The end result is terrible and fatal.

Let's see more now on the TRAGIC CONSEQUENCES OF PRAYERLESSNESS.

Who is a prayerless Christian? He is: (1) anyone who finds it hard and impossible to maintain a regular prayer habit, (2) anyone who dodges prayers, giving wanting excuses, (3) anyone who spends his time on sinful, worldly pleasure, rather than in the presence of God, (4) anyone whose desire and hunger for prayer has died down out of discouragement, (5) anyone who prefers to have unnecessary fellowship with people in the morning at the expense of his Quiet Time, (6) anyone whose prayer does not get to the throne of God because of lack of faith, commitment and fervency, (7) anyone who is always in a hurry and does not pray through before leaving his closet, (8) anyone who preaches on prayer but does not pray, (9) anyone who prays selfishly, praying for only I, me, myself, (10) anyone who is always boasting of his prayer achievement and does not give God the glory, (11) anyone who prays with doubt and unbelief, (12) anyone who is asking for blessing while living in disobedience, and, (13) anyone who is a habitual sinner who refuses to repent, and, yet, praying for blessings.

The result of prayerlessness is always sad and tragic. The prayerless will be robbed, captured, corrupted, become a prey, and crushed. A prayerless person is a potential backslider. He won't stay long in the true faith.

And, because prayerlessness is a sin, no prayerless Christian will make it to heaven.

Beloved, rise up and cry unto the Lord today, to destroy the yoke and power of prayerlessness in your life, and, to ignite the fire of aggressive prayer in your life.

Let us pray.

'FLOURISHING ON EVERY SIDE' DAILY DEVOTIONAL
(For individuals, groups and families)

PRESS ON TOWARDS THE MARK
(Philippians 3:12-21)

MEMORY VERSE: "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ" (Philippians 3:13-14).

FULL TEXT: Philippians 3:1-21

Paul the Apostle's life was dominated by ONE preeminent objective. And, this objective, he clearly explains in Philippians 3:13, 14, our memory verse today.

He uses an illustration from the Greek athletic runner in the Olympic games. While the Greek runner runs the race before him, he wipes away all his thoughts of past failures, and, he strains every nerve in him, for total concentration, to reach his goal and win the prize.

And, what prize was Paul pursuing after to win? It was (and still is) the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14; 1 Corinthians 9:24; 2 Corinthians 4:17; 5:1).

This Paul's singular pursuit is a powerful lesson to everyone of us in the devotion today. If we are going to win the prize eventually, there is, a past that we must leave behind, and, a pressing on towards the prize before us that must be done.

What 'pasts' must we leave behind if we are going to achieve our God-given goals in this world and make it to heaven at last? They are: (1) OUR PAST SINS. If truly we have repented and forsaken our sins, we must forget them (Proverbs 28:13). Why? God has forgiven us and forgotten them (1 John 1:9; Psalm 103:12; Isaiah 44:22; Micah 7:19; Hebrews 10:17). (2) OUR PAST FAILURES. Many believers spend time crying over their past failures. They say: 'If not for the mistake I made... I am the cause...'. As a result, they are not able to truly serve the Lord, nor make any progress in their pilgrim journey. (3) OUR PAST SUCCESSES. We are to use our past successes as reference points, and not dwell on them only, while refusing to make further progress. (4) THE SINS AND FAILURE OF OTHERS. When we dwell continually on those who offended us, and on those who fell into sin before our eyes, we are sinning against God. We should forgive, forgo, forget. (5) OUR PAST BLESSINGS. While we must thank and glorify God for His blessings in our lives, we must not just remain only in them. God still wants to do more. We must press forward (Psalm 103:2; Lamentation 3:23).

No believer should dwell always in the past. Rather, we should press on until we have obtained the prize that is set before us.

To press on to the prize before us is to: (1) PRESS ON TO PERFECTION (Philippians 3:12). 'Perfection' is to be like Jesus more and more, until Christ is fully seen and glorified in us (2 Corinthians 3:17, 18; 1 John 3:2). (2) PRESS ON TO FULLY FULFIL GOD'S PURPOSE (Ephesians 2:10; 3:20; Romans 8:28). God's purpose for us stands sure, as long as we continue to serve Him faithfully with all our hearts. We are to press on, each day, to accomplish His purpose for our lives. (3) PRESS ON TO WIN SOULS TO CHRIST'S KINGDOM EVERYDAY. If we neglect to win souls to His kingdom, many will be lost and go to hell-fire. And, we, also, will miss the rapture (Philippians 3:18, 19; 2 Peter 3:11, 12). And, finally, (4) PRESS ON TILL WE MEET CHRIST IN THE RAPTURE (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; 1 Corinthians 15:51, 52).

Beloved, God has spoken unto us in the devotion today. Rise up, forget those things that are behind you, and keep your eyes focused on the prize that is before you. Press on, oh, press on, press on until you win the prize.

Let us pray.

'FLOURISHING ON EVERY SIDE' DEVOTIONAL (for individual, group, family devotion)

HEAVEN'S DISTINCTION AND DECORATION OF THE GODLY
(Psalm 4:3-8)

In the text above, the Bible declares clearly that God distinguishes and sets the godly apart for Himself (Psalm 4:3)! This is a powerful challenge to every Christ-believer today - a challenge to rise up, and aggressively pursue after godliness in heart and life!

Who are the godly? They are (1) those who have surrendered to the Lord Jesus and have acknowledged Him as their personal Saviour and Lord (Ephesians 2:8, 9), (2) those who truly love the Lord (Mark 12:33; 1 John 5:3), (3) those who are living to please the Lord only (2 Corinthians 5:15; Colossians 1:20), (4) those who love the Word of God and seriously study, meditate and walk by Its commands (Luke 11:28; Matthew 7:24), (5) those who keep themselves from sin (1 John 5:18), (6) those who separate themselves from the assemblies of the ungodly, mockers and the scornful (Psalm 1:1), (7) those who preach Christ and His righteousness to all men (Romans 1:16), and, (8) those who are heavenly-minded.

As the Lord consecrates the godly unto Himself, so He condemns the life of godlessness, and any act of sinfulness in heart and life, and in the secret or open!

Those who turns God's glory to shame through perverted living, those who after vanity and extortion (Psalm 4:2) are condemned by God, alongside those who lie to one another, speaking with flattering lips and a deceptive heart (Psalm 12:2). The same with those who cling to idols (Psalm 31:6), and those who are worldly and wayward.

God's righteous judgement fiercely dangles upon everyone who practices ungodliness except he truly repents and surrenders totally to the Lord (Proverbs 16:4; Psalm 145:20; 37:38)!

God is calling everyone today to totally separate from sin (Psalm 4:4), offer sacrifices of righteousness unto Him by placing their faith in the finished work of Christ at Calvary for their salvation, and, when they are saved, they should, immediately, begin to live godly in the secret and in the open (Psalm 4:5) and continue to follow the Lord while putting their whole trust in Him.

God honours the godly. He favours, greatly engraces, blesses, anoints, mightily uses, preserves, honours, and reveals Himself powerfully to the godly.

Today, God's honour comes upon you as you live godly in Jesus Christ Name!

CONFIDENCE IN GOD, OUR VERY PRESENT HELP
(Psalm 46:1-7)

Psalm 46 clearly expresses believers' complete trust and steadfast confidence in the Lord at all times, particularly in the time of insecurity and instability! God's massive help and comfort are standing for everyone who is following Him faithfully without compromise, no matter where they are and what they may be passing through.

Our victory over adversities and uncertainties of life is only in the Almighty God. He is our "refuge": our shelter from danger and our true security in the storms of life (Isaiah 4:5, 6). He is our "Strength": great and mighty against our foes (Psalm 21:8; Exodus 15:13), and he gives us continual supernatural victory and dominion over life's obstacles.

And, not only does God rise against our foes, He also strengthens us with His mighty strength within and becomes the mighty power that works in us (Colossians 1:29).

In Christ Jesus, we are too defended to be defeated; too covered to be conquered and too secured to be subdued by the wicked one. No one who faithfully follows Him will ever be put to shame.

God is "a very present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1). He is available for His people anywhere and anytime. Thus, we should never be afraid of the erupted mountains, the tremor of the earth, the violence of the sea, or the raging of the heathens, either in the night or in the day, for God is presently present to mightily help everyone who completely trusts in Him (Hebrews 4:16).

However, we need to understand clearly, that God's defence and help are not for the unrepentantly sinful, the ungodly and those who love this present evil world.

Rather, His help and defence are for (1) those who have fully yielded themselves unto Him and are genuinely born again (Romans 8:1), (2) those who are serving Him in true holiness and righteousness (Psalm 4:3; 37:28), (3) those who are faithful in their walk with God (Psalm 101:6), (4) those who separate themselves from the sinful world (Psalm 1:1-3), (5) those who depart from unequal yokes (2 Corinthians 6:16, 17), (6) those who truly love the Lord and His Word, and who study and meditate daily in It (Deuteronomy 28:1, 2; 30:9, 10), and (7) those who mind heavenly things and are preparing themselves for rapture of the saints (Philippians 1:23; 2 Corinthians 5:8).

These are they of which the Bible says: "God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early" (Psalm 46:5)!

As you trust completely in the Lord, mighty help is arriving for you and your family in Jesus Christ Name (Amen)
