RESURRECTION DAY

Jesus Has Risen

Matthew 28: 1-10
28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

On Resurrection Day, we rejoice in the miracle that Jesus is alive. In Matthew 28, the angel proclaims to the women at the tomb, “He is not here; he has risen!"This is the dawn of hope; the dawn when death is swallowed by life, and the grave is rendered empty." Because of this, every shadow in our lives holds the promise of light. Today, embrace the hope of new beginnings.

In 2 Corinthians 5:17, we read, “If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. The old has gone; the new has come.Today, let's welcome this newness by stepping into a fresh start—perhaps by forgiving myself, by daring to dream again, or by serving others with a renewed spirit.

Pray this prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank you for the resurrection; thank you for making all things new. Help me to lead a life worthy of the great gift you have given to me. Give me the courage to show the light to the world, as you are the light, so all will know who you are and be made new too. Amen.

HOLY SATURDAY

Luke 23: 50-56
50 Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, 51 who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God. 52 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body. 53 Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. 54 It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.

55 The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. 56 Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.

On Holy Saturday, we stand in the quiet space between grief and hope. In Luke 23, Jesus is laid in the tomb. As the Sabbath arrived, the people left for their homes to rest just as Jesus’ body rested in the tomb. In this moment of stillness and silence, let us find comfort in God's word—like in Psalm 46:10, where God says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Today, sit in that stillness, perhaps journaling or meditating on God’s promises and prepare your heart for the resurrection.

Pray this prayer:

Lord, in this quiet moment, remind me that even in darkness, your light is about to shine; your victory is my victory. Help me to remember your promises even when life is disappointing or scary. Give me the faith to endure. Calm my heart and give me patience so I may be still and know you are my God-- omnipotent! Amen.

GOOD FRIDAY

JOHN 19: 28-30

28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

On Good Friday, we remember the ultimate sacrifice—Jesus on the cross. In John 19, we hear Jesus say, “It is finished,” and in that moment, he bore the weight of our sin. The significance of the Last Supper echoes today, as Jesus offered his body and blood; a foreshadowing of his suffering and death for us. Let us pause in deep gratitude, remembering that this was all done out of love, so that we might be reconciled to God. Today, let's spend time in silence and prayer, perhaps fasting or participating in a service, to remember that love was poured out for us. Reflect on how you can live in response to God's grace.

Pray this prayer:

Jesus, I will not forget the great sacrifice you made for me on the cross due to your great love. You gifted the opportunity to spend eternity with you in Heaven; to be in life. Help me to be courageous and strong like you; doing what is the will of the Lord even when it is a difficult path. Thank you for Grace. Amen.

HOLY THURSDAY/ MAUNDY THURSDAY

JOHN 13: 12-17

12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

On Holy Thursday or Maundy Thursday, we remember the word “Maundy,” which comes from the Latin “mandatum,” meaning command. On this night, Jesus gave his disciples a new command: to love one another, as he loved them. In John 13, we see Jesus washing his disciples’ feet, showing us that love is always expressed in service. Pause today to remember this radical love; a Love that moves in faith, humility, and ACTION. The greatest display of love in action is what Jesus did for us on the cross.

Pray this prayer:

Lord, help me to show your radical love to the world by serving others with humility. Give me wisdom and courage to reach out in a practical way to love your people; perhaps by helping a neighbor or offering forgiveness to those who have wronged me, so I may live out this command of love in my daily life. Amen.

HOLY WEDNESDAY/SPY WEDNESDAY

MATTHEW 26:20-29

20 When eve:ning came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me. 22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?” 23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.” 25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”

Jesus answered, “You have said so.” 26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

On Holy Wednesday, also known as Spy Wednesday, we remember Judas’s decision to betray Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. In Matthew 26, we see the stark contrast between Judas’s greed and Jesus’s unwavering love; we see the shadow of betrayal. Judas chose silver over loyalty, and Jesus still walked that road. Jesus suffered and died for Judas (and people like Judas) too. Jesus shows that love doesn't falter even in betrayal.

Let's pause today to reflect on the ways we might be tempted to choose comfort over faithfulness.

Pray this prayer:

Lord, have mercy on me and help me see the small ways I betray your trust and give me the wisdom to correct my ways. Give me courage to choose you even when it's hard. Give me the strength to move in love with action as you have done for me on the cross. Amen.

HOLY TUESDAY

MARK 12:28-29

28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
There is no commandment greater than these.”

On Holy Tuesday, we remember that Jesus taught in the temple for the last time, as in Mark 12, where he says, “The greatest commandment is this: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love your neighbor as yourself." This is a love that transforms society; a love that is active and moves in faith. It challenges us to see every person as worthy of dignity. Today, let's pause to listen for Jesus’ voice in our daily tasks. Where is he calling you to love more deeply or stand firm in truth?

Pray this prayer:

Lord, guide me today to act with love. Open my eyes to see where love is needed. Give me the courage to reach out even in a small way to serve someone in need. Let my heart chase after what is your heart. Let me be the neighbor that loves my neighbor. Amen

HOLY MONDAY

MATTHEW 21:12-13
12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.

Today, as we reflect on Good Monday, we remember that Jesus, in his last days, continued to teach with boldness and acted with compassion. In the temple, he drove out the money changers. He taught that true worship is love and purity of heart. He calls us to possess a love that demands justice and purifies our daily actions. Let God overturn the tables in our own hearts so we may love not just in words but in bold and courageous service.

Today, pause to examine what needs to be cleansed in your life. What distractions pull you away from God?

Pray this prayer:

Lord, give me courage to turn over what needs to go. In this quiet moment, I surrender those burdens to you. May I serve and worship you always with a pure heart. Help me to keep my temple clean, so your will, will be completed in my life. Amen.

PALM SUNDAY

MATTHEW 21:8-9

8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

On Palm Sunday, let's reflect on Jesus’ humble entrance into Jerusalem. Matthew 21 shows us the crowds shouting “Hosanna!” and laid down palms. As he rode in, Jesus knew it would be his last journey and the path of great sacrifice. He went because of a deep, unshakable love for us; love that would lead him to the cross so that we could be with the holy God. Let's pause today to recognize this sacrifice. Following Christ's lead, what sacrifice could you make today as an act of love?

Pray this simple prayer today :

Lord, help me see how your love calls me to act with courage. Today, I will offer an act of love and kindness, so that like you, I might have the courage to live with love that changes the world. Amen.
