Black Saturday — April 4, 2026
The Day Between Death and Resurrection
Today — the tomb is sealed.
Yesterday — He died.
Tomorrow — He will rise.
But today —
Today is silence.
Today is the day that has no name in most calendars.
Today is the day the world forgot.
Today is the day the disciples spent behind locked doors.
Today is the day Our Lady kept her vigil alone.
Today is Black Saturday.
And it is perhaps — the most important day of all. 🕯️
🌑 WHY DO WE CALL IT BLACK?
Not because God is absent.
But because it feels like He is.
Black Saturday is the color of a world without Easter yet.
It is the color of a sealed tomb.
It is the color of a locked upper room.
It is the color of eleven men who have lost everything they believed in.
It is the color of a Mother keeping vigil in silence.
It is the color of every human heart that has ever waited in the dark for a dawn that has not yet come.
Black Saturday is the color of the space between the promise and its fulfilment.
And most of us — if we are honest —
Live there. 🕯️
🌑 WHAT THE SCRIPTURES TELL US
The Gospels say very little about Black Saturday.
After the burial — after the stone is rolled — after the guards are posted — there is almost complete silence in all four Gospels.
Just this — from Matthew:
(Douay-Rheims, Matthew 27:62-66)
"And the next day, which followed the day of preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees came together to Pilate, saying: Sir, we have remembered that that seducer said while he was yet alive: After three days I will rise again. Command therefore the sepulchre to be guarded until the third day: lest perhaps his disciples come and steal him away and say to the people: He is risen from the dead: and the last error shall be worse than the first. Pilate saith to them: You have a guard. Go, guard it as you know. And they departing, made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting guards."
They made it sure.
They did everything humanly possible to make certain this was the end.
A sealed stone.
A Roman guard.
An official wax seal of the empire of Rome itself pressed against the entrance of the tomb.
They made it as sure as human power could make it.
And human power — against the power of God — is nothing. 🕯️
