Traditionally, the wassail is celebrated on Twelfth Night (either 5 or 6 January), although some people still wassail on "Old Twelvey Night", 17 January, as it would have been before the introduction of the Gregorian Calendar in 1752.

One wassailing tradition is to go from house to house singing songs in much the same way as carolling before Christmas. Another tradition is to wassail in apple orchards, singing the health of the tress and wishing for a good crop in the coming year.

Either way, a good English custom that is still very much alive!

The Sanda Runestone, thought to depict Odin, Thor and Freyr, holding a spear, hammer and sickle respectively.
The inscription reads; “Hróðvísl ok Farbjörn ok Gunnbjörn”, perhaps the three men this stone was raised in memory of, depicted above in the halls of the Gods.
The swan on the left could be one of the swans mentioned in the Well of Urðr in the Gylfaginning.

A quote from my friend Sagnamaðr Stark:
Something needs to be said. Just as so many modern pagans are rebounding off of Christianity, a lot are also rebounding off of the radical left, maybe even a woke church.

And in an attempt to be as anti-woke, as Based and Trad™ as possible, rejecting anything that remotely resembles where they came from, they can end up throwing the baby out with the bath water.

It’s often these types who end up reducing the Gods to small, limited, and frankly blasphemous caricatures, such as minor regional deities, metaphors, deified ancestors, and placentas; in order for them to be totally exclusive to one branch of Indo European culture.

Because otherwise, what happened when the Indo-Europeans migrated, branched out, and founded new cultures and languages, did they discard their Gods and replace them with new ones? No. While they worshipped regional deities and spirits, the Indo-Europeans spread the cults of their beloved Gods to the ends of the earth.

An amber figure from Feddet, Denmark, 8-11th Century. Possibly a gaming piece, and/or a pocket god. Due to the similarities with the figures from Eyrarland, Baldursheimur, Lund, and Chernaya Mogila, this figure may depict Thor gripping his beard. It would appear that in contemporary iconography of Thor, his beard was as important as his hammer.

Járnviðr:
In the east sat an old woman in Iron-wood
and nurtured there offspring of Fenrir
a certain one of them in monstrous form
will be the snatcher of the moon
—Völuspá 40

A witch dwells to the east of Midgard, in the forest called Ironwood: in that wood dwell the troll-women, who are known as Ironwood-Women [járnviðjur]. The old witch bears many giants for sons, and all in the shape of wolves; and from this source are these wolves sprung. The saying runs thus: from this race shall come one that shall be mightiest of all, he that is named Moon-Hound [Mánagarmr]; he shall be filled with the flesh of all those men that die, and he shall swallow the moon
—Gylfaginning

In Baltic paganism, wolves were known as Dievas Sunīši (dogs of God), and it was believed harming one could invoke his wrath, in the form of misfortune or plagues.
I can’t help but notice, in multiple studies of Viking Age and early Anglo Saxon burials, towns and ritual sites, there is a distinct absence of wolf tissue. These beliefs clearly extended beyond the Baltics.
In the Hrafnagaldur Óðins, a lesser known Eddic poem, Iðunn falls from Yggdrasil, and Odin gives her a wolf’s “skin” (or rather hamr/form?) to hide her, and she becomes a wolf.
