Get some Spring cleaning done and help others in need in the process! This weekend, May 16-17, you can drop off your gently used items to the truck at the St. Edward parking lot (240 Tod Lane) between 1-4 on Saturday and 10-2 on Sunday. St. Vincent de Paul Mahoning District Council is looking for donations of items in good condition that they can sell in their Thrift Store to raise funds for their charitable work in our community.

Items they will accept: Area rugs, blankets, curtains, linens, runners, towels, clothing, jewelry, furniture, houseware, kitchenware, home decor, pet supplies, sporting goods, toys, collectibles, and TVs under 5 years old.

They are not able to accept: Outdated technology, outdoor/lawn & gas-powered tools, used socks or undergarments, used mattresses or box springs or headboards, cosmetics/makeup, infant-related items, hospital/medical equipment, installed electrical fixtures, building & construction materials, out-of-date or out-of-season furniture.

Sunday, May 3, we celebrated First Holy Communion at St. Edward and St. Columba Cathedral with 8 children total from our parish and combined city parishes CCD program. It was a beautiful celebration for them, their families, and our parish communities. We congratulate them on this major step in their faith journey and pray that they will continue to receive our Lord in Holy Communion often throughout their lives!

Last night, 3 of our parishioners received the Eagle of the Cross Award from the Diocese of Youngstown - Madeleine Devlin, Pierce Jones, and Luke Lantz.

This award is the highest recognition that our Diocese confers on a youth for selfless service to their peers, parishes, schools, and communities and for exemplifying moral integrity, prayer, good works, and Catholic-Christian leadership.

Madeleine worships at St. Columba Cathedral and is a senior at Ursuline High School. She also participated in the Eagle of the Cross Mass as an altar server.

Pierce Jones worships at St. Columba Cathedral and is a senior at Cardinal Mooney High School.

Luke Lantz worships at St. Edward and is a senior at Ursuline High School. He also participated in the Eagle of the Cross Mass as a lector.

Join us in congratulating Maddie, Pierce, and Luke for this great honor, and in thanking them for the contributions they make in the Church and the witness they give of Christian discipleship!

Visit the St. Columba Cathedral Hall this weekend to view an extensive display about miracles related to the Eucharist, originally put together in digital form by St. Carlo Acutis. Open until 7:00pm today and from 10:00am-7:00pm tomorrow.

Today we will be joining with Pope Leo XIV in praying for peace. St. Edward is host site for Mahoning County to gather in prayer in the midst of the Blessed Sacrament. The church is open now through 1:00pm for Adoration. The broadcast of Pope Leo’s Prayer Vigil beginning at Noon will also be available to watch. Join us as we join the pope and Catholics around the world in praying for peace.

St. Edward will be one of the host sites for this gathering for prayer.

The Diocese of Youngstown is participating in Pope Leo XIV’s call for Prayer for Peace tomorrow, Saturday April 11th. In each of the six counties, one church has been designated to be open for prayer. Click on the link below for more information.

On Good Friday, there will be Stations of the Cross at St. Edward at 5:00pm. Please join us to pray and reflect on Jesus' road to the cross.

(This will not be the Liturgy of the Lord's Passion with Communion. That service will take place in the Youngstown Collaborative at St. Columba at 3:00, Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 6:00, and St. Patrick at 7:00pm.)
