Monday was our final full day in Timisoara and it was a relaxing one where we got to rest up before traveling. The day started with a late brunch in Timisoara followed by souvenir shopping, sightseeing & exploring the countryside just outside of town with our Romania friends. Lots of laughs together- we will miss them!

Tuesday is travel home day with the team departing Timisoara at 2PM local time (7AM EST) and arriving in Norfolk after 11PM (EST). Please keep us in your prayers today as we change planes in Munich, Germany & Washington DC before reaching Norfolk.

Give thanks to God for a wonderful & significant trip. May He continue the work in our hearts that He began in Timisoara.

The team will give a trip report at PCC sometime in the near future so keep an eye out for those details.

Thank you again for your prayers & financial support. We could not have done this without you!

Sunday in Timisoara started with an early breakfast so that we could get to church on the outskirts of town in time. It was the same church that had hosted our BBQ on Saturday so it was fun to return to a place that we already knew some folks at.

Nathan got to share a testimony about God's work in his life and then they asked us to do two worship songs for them. The service was all in Romanian so that was both challenging and interesting.

Saturday started off with breakfast with Carlton Deal & Ligia Dugulescu (see Day 2's post) and we spent some time debriefing the week. It was amazing to hear from Ligia how our work here has impacted Serve The City Timisoara's standing in the community and how she felt that this past week has really solidified the movement.

The rest of the day was spent at a local church that hosted us for a celebration BBQ where all who served this past week were invited to attend. Music, laughter, games and great food.

Today was the last day of the official Serve The City Timisoara volunteer week and it was a good one! PCC primary global partner Carlton Deal, the founder of Serve The City, came to Timisoara on Thursday night so he was with us for the day and some new opportunities opened up.

Instead of starting the day with a service project, the team was invited with Carlton to a local Christian radio station, that broadcasts all over Romania, to share about the vision of STC and why we came to Timisoara. We couldn't all fit in the studio so Nathan & Darline joined Carlton in the on-air interview. You can watch the interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Du_gdLvOSI

As a result of the interview, Nathan was invited to join Carlton at a conference on CyberSecurity that was happening in a hotel in Timisoara so they headed to that while the rest of the team headed to a park to clean up trash.

A massive thunderstorm rolled into Timisoara just after lunch turning the streets into rivers so the team's afternoon project was delayed.

Eventually the team made it's way to a local ministry that was running a VBS that had asked for our assistance. We thought we were going to be leading games & songs for young children but when we showed up, all of the attendees were teenagers so we adapted. It was a fun afternoon of songs, games & laughter and a great way to end the week.

Our third day of Serve The City Timisoara saw us travel to a couple of unique places as our team split in half. One part of our team worked at a gypsy/Roma home doing painting and other home improvements to improve the quality of life for this family.

The other part of the team traveled to a farm that was run by an orphanage on the outskirts of the city. We learned yesterday that when Romania became part of the EU, they were required to modify how they ran their system of orphanages in the country. Before EU membership, there were several large orphanages with hundreds of orphans living in one place. Now each orphanage can only host 12 orphans maximum at a time so there are now many smaller, separate orphanages across the country.

This orphanage has only girls and they help run an apple orchard / farm. We got to help them maintain their orchard through several different activities.

We closed the day with a team dinner in the Union Square part of downtown Timisoara.

Day two of Serve The City Timisoara had us travel in the morning to a day center for special needs people ranging from mild to severe. We spent the morning visiting with them, engaging in some of their activities, learning about how they lived day by day and just offering a warm handshake or a smile. We were blessed to be in their presence.

In the afternoon the group split up to accomplish multiple practical projects including cleaning, repair, home improvement, playing games with children and preparing wood for the stove of an elderly lady who has no running water or power where she lives.

In the evening, one of our hosts, Ligia Dugulescu, gave us a tour of the main squares in downtown Timisoara including where her father, Peter, was a key figure in the revolution against Communism in 1989. You read more about this story here: https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/trevin-wax/how-a-reformed-church-overthrew-communism-in-romania/

Ligia's story led to where her father, a Baptist pastor, led one of the first movements to provide care for orphans in Romania which ultimately led to the establishment of the Onesimus House - the orphanage where we are currently staying. Fascinating story!

Today was the first day of Serve The City Timisoara's Big Volunteer Week and the team got to work in two different areas. First we went to a severely handicapped couple's home and did some cleaning, organizing and other things around the house to help them in whatever ways we could. Then we traveled back to the orphanage where we are staying and did some painting, cleaning and spent time playing with the orphans who live here.

Our first weekend here included traveling to the city of Hateg, Romania where our hosts also run a special needs women's house. Internet access was sketchy so we didn't get to update this page until now. Friday we drove through the Romanian countryside towards the Carpathian Mountains. We explored a castle that was on the way where we had to climb up very steep stairways to reach it. During the weekend we also explored another castle, attended a Romanian church where we got to lead a song during the service, and other fun & educational things that really helped to immerse us in the Romanian culture and bond us with our hosts and each other. Before we left today, we spent the morning painting part of the special needs woman's house and had a great time serving our hosts and these precious ladies.

We are getting excited as we prepare to leave this week for Romania! We would appreciate prayers for our team leader, David Taylor, as he heads out a day before us. Please pray for safe travels for him and for his knee (recent surgery) to continue to heal well!

More prayer requests and updates to follow.

One week from today we get on a plane for Romania! Thank you to everyone who has supported us financially and through prayer - we are so grateful for your support! Our critical financial needs have been met and the trip is covered. We still need some funding for unexpected expenses and/or blessing our hosts through paying for meals and/or supplies so if you'd still like to contribute, it's not too late.

Please pray for our last week at home as we prepare to leave and be away from our families and work situations for the trip.

Enjoy our team picture. Stay tuned for more details & updates as we begin this journey!
