Daniel and his friends faced a dilemma that echoes in our own life: What do we do when faithfulness to God puts us at odds with the world around us? Our challenge is to live under God’s authority while remaining in submission to the law of the land. But when the two collide, our first instinct should be to seek the Lord’s guidance before moving forward.

Daniel’s example shows us what that looks like in practice. Had he bluntly declared, “I won’t eat this food!” he wouldn’t have lasted long. But the Lord gave him the wisdom to humbly seek permission from the person in authority over him rather than stage a confrontation (Dan. 1:8-13). God honored Daniel’s commitment and provided a way for him to live righteously—not through defiance, but through discernment.

We remember Daniel and his three friends for the remarkable lives they lived. But it’s important to realize that the determining factor was never their own greatness. Rather, it was their devotion to a heavenly Father who does extraordinary things in lives that are fully surrendered to Him. Keep in mind their example of faithfulness, and watch what God does when you make yourself available to Him

Daniel 1.3-21

Daniel y sus amigos enfrentaron un dilema que resuena en nuestra vida: ¿Qué hacemos cuando la fidelidad a Dios nos pone en desacuerdo con el mundo que nos rodea? Nuestro desafío es vivir bajo la autoridad de Dios mientras permanecemos sujetos a las leyes del país. Pero cuando ambos chocan, nuestra primera reacción debe ser buscar la guía del Señor antes de seguir adelante.

El ejemplo de Daniel nos muestra cómo se ve eso en la práctica. Si él hubiera declarado sin rodeos: “¡No comeré esta comida!”, no habría durado mucho. Pero el Señor le dio la sabiduría para pedir permiso con humildad a la persona con autoridad sobre él, en lugar de provocar una confrontación (Dn 1.8-13). Dios honró el compromiso de Daniel y proporcionó una manera de vivir en rectitud, no a través del desafío, sino del discernimiento.

Most of us can look back and see moments when God asked us to step beyond what felt comfortable. Maybe it was a call to forgive, to act generously, or to walk into something unfamiliar. These invitations can feel overwhelming—but they’re actually signs that God is drawing us deeper into relationship with Him.

Our natural tendency is to set boundaries around the areas where we feel safe following God. We might not say it out loud, but our hearts sometimes whisper, “I’ll trust You here, Lord, but not there.” It’s an honest impulse, and God isn’t surprised by it. But He loves us too much to let us settle for a small story when He has a larger, grander one in mind (Ephesians 3:20).

When God challenges us beyond our self-determined limits, He isn’t testing us—He’s inviting us into a higher level of trust. No matter how far we’ve come, there’s always more of His goodness to discover. Each new step of surrender is an opportunity to experience His faithfulness in ways we haven’t yet imagined.

The Christian life isn’t about arriving. It’s about following. And the One who leads us knows the way, loves the journey, and has already prepared what’s ahead. All we have to do is take the next step.

La mayoría de nosotros podemos mirar atrás y ver momentos en los que Dios nos pidió ir más allá de lo que nos resultaba cómodo. Tal vez fue un llamado a perdonar, a actuar con generosidad o a entrar en algo desconocido. Estas invitaciones pueden resultar abrumadoras, pero en realidad son señales de que Dios nos está llevando a profundizar nuestra relación con Él.

Nuestra tendencia natural es poner límites en las áreas donde nos sentimos seguros al seguir a Dios. Puede que no lo digamos en voz alta, pero el corazón a veces susurra: “Señor, confiaré en ti en esto, pero no en aquello”. Es un impulso sincero, y a Dios no le sorprende. Pero nos ama demasiado como para dejarnos conformarnos con una historia pequeña cuando Él tiene una historia más grande y gloriosa en mente (Ef 3.20).

Cuando Dios nos desafía más allá de nuestros límites autoimpuestos, no nos está poniendo a prueba: nos está invitando a un nivel más alto de confianza. No importa cuánto hayamos avanzado, siempre hay más de su bondad por descubrir. Cada nuevo paso de entrega es una oportunidad para experimentar su fidelidad de maneras que aún no hemos imaginado.

La vida cristiana no se trata de llegar, sino de seguir. Y Aquel que nos guía conoce el camino, ama el recorrido y ha preparado el camino. Lo único que tenemos que hacer es tener fe.

How do you respond when God calls you to do something that seems beyond your capabilities? Do you hesitate—or give Him reasons why He must have picked the wrong person? That’s exactly how Moses responded. But the exchange at the burning bush reveals two questions that can steady us when we feel overwhelmed by what God is asking.

Who is God? Presenting Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Ex. 3:6), the Lord called Himself by the name “I AM WHO I AM” (v. 14). The sovereign, self-existent, promise-keeping God wasn’t introducing Himself to a stranger but was reminding Moses whose voice he was hearing.

Who am I? When Moses questioned whether he was the right man for the job, God didn’t list Moses’ qualifications. He gave him something better: “I will be with you” (v. 12). Moses’ adequacy wasn’t the point—God’s presence was. And the same is true for us. Our sufficiency comes not from our own strength but from Christ and the indwelling Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:5).

Has God given you a daunting task? He knows your limitations better than you do and has already accounted for them. So, instead of worrying whether you are enough, focus instead on the truth that He is.

¿Cómo responde usted cuando Dios le llama a hacer algo que parece estar más allá de sus capacidades? ¿Vacila o da razones por las que no es la persona indicada? Así respondió Moisés. Pero el diálogo en la zarza ardiente revela dos preguntas que pueden ayudarnos si nos sentimos abrumados por lo que Dios nos pide.

1. ¿Quién es Dios? Presentándose como el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Jacob (Ex 3.6), el Señor se llamó a sí mismo: “YO SOY EL QUE SOY” (Ex 3.14). El Dios soberano, eterno y que cumple sus promesas no se estaba presentando a un extraño, sino recordándole a Moisés quién era la voz que él estaba escuchando.

2. ¿Quién soy yo? Cuando Moisés dudó de ser el indicado, Dios no destacó sus capacidades, sino que le prometió: “Yo estaré contigo” (Ex 3.12). La suficiencia de Moisés no estaba en sí mismo, sino en la presencia de Dios. Lo mismo ocurre con nosotros: nuestra suficiencia no proviene de nuestra fuerza, sino de Cristo y del Espíritu Santo que habita en nosotros (2 Co 3.5).

¿Le ha dado Dios una tarea difícil? Él conoce sus limitaciones mejor que usted mismo y ya las ha tomado en cuenta. Así que, en lugar de preocuparse por si usted es capaz, enfóquese en la verdad de que Él sí lo es.

Since all of Paul’s letters begin with an expression of God’s grace, we may be tempted to think that it is simply a customary word of greeting. But in reality, God’s grace is our foundation and the very atmosphere in which we live as believers in Christ.

Grace is the undeserved favor of God. And according to Ephesians 2:8, it’s the means by which we are saved through faith. Romans 5:2 says that by our faith, we have “obtained our introduction … into this grace in which we stand.” Grace isn’t a one-time gift—it sustains us throughout life and into eternity. And it never ceases to do its work in us. That’s why Paul could confidently say, “He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus” (Phil. 1:6).

Sometimes it’s difficult to see righteousness in ourselves, because we know how weak and flawed we are. But even that awareness can draw us closer to Christ. If we’ve been saved, then the Lord lives in us and we in Him (1 John 4:13). Jesus is our righteousness (1 Corinthians 1:30), and He’s actively producing His fruit in our life as we abide in Him. This process, known as sanctification, is God’s grace working to align our character with the Son’s. So let’s stand firm in divine grace and trust God to complete what He started.

Ya que todas las cartas de Pablo comienzan con una expresión de la gracia de Dios, podemos sentirnos tentados a pensar que es solo un saludo habitual. Pero en realidad, la gracia de Dios es nuestro fundamento y la atmósfera misma en la que vivimos como creyentes en Cristo.

La gracia es el favor inmerecido de Dios. Según Efesios 2.8, es el medio por el cual somos salvos mediante la fe, y en Romanos 5.2 se nos dice que por ella “tenemos entrada a esta gracia en la cual estamos firmes”. No es un regalo de una sola vez, sino una obra continua. Por eso Pablo afirma que Dios “perfeccionará la buena obra que comenzó en nosotros” (Fil 1.6).

A veces es difícil ver lo bueno en nosotros mismos, porque sabemos lo débiles y defectuosos que somos. Pero incluso esa conciencia puede acercarnos más a Cristo. Si hemos sido salvos, el Señor vive en nosotros y nosotros en Él (1 Jn 4.13). Jesucristo es nuestra justicia (1 Co 1.30) y está produciendo su fruto en nuestra vida mientras permanecemos en Él. Este proceso, conocido como santificación, es la gracia de Dios obrando para alinear nuestro carácter con el del Hijo. Así que mantengámonos firmes en la gracia divina y confiemos en que Dios terminará la obra que inició en nosotros.

God answers prayer in one of three ways: “yes,” “no,” or “not yet.” This last reply is possibly the most dreaded—and for good reason. Waiting requires us to trust God’s plan when we can’t yet see it. However, patience is an important trait for the Christian, as Scripture repeatedly teaches us in stories, proverbs, psalms, and epistles.

Waiting on God to unlock a door is always wiser than attempting to open it ourselves. After God promised him descendants (Genesis 12:2), Abraham waited 25 years with an answer of “not yet.” That is a long time to hold on to a promise!

Abraham and Sarah were human, and eventually they came up with their own plan to get an heir. Sarah’s servant Hagar bore Ishmael. It’s easy to understand the impulse; the waiting must have felt unbearable. But the consequences were painful. Bitterness and blame touched every member of the family (Genesis 16:4-6; Genesis 21:9-10). When the divine “yes” finally came through Isaac, it arrived in God’s timing and on His terms—as it always does.

Our patience isn’t to give God more time—He doesn’t need it. But waiting deepens our trust and prepares us for what He has on the other side of that door (Isaiah 40:31). His timing is always worth trusting in, especially when the waiting is hard.
