Following Hard After God is doing something with your Conscience....

"Listen to Him!”

We believe in him as scripture says.... leading to "Now what do we do?"

Now it is on our conscience... and we have to do something again, We have to do something with Jesus...

In Matthew 17:5....While he (Peter on the Mount of Transfiguration) was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”

I think everyone hears the 1st part of what God says here (“This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased;) and skips over the last main statement!

"listen to Him!”

One of the most important statements in the whole Bible!

God Himself tells us to "Listen to Him"... And this is not just a 1-time command, this carries through with all Jesus said.... We are to listen to what Jesus said, and OBEY....Why do you think He spent 3 years here, teaching us what it is we need to do?

So we must first, hear Him, then listen to Him, dedicate ourselves to Him, and follow Him, our unblemished Lamb, follow Him where ever He goes, do what ever He says, do what ever He commands, and little do you know, He will be on your conscience until you do, and then some!

It all starts with what we are told 6 verses earlier by John the Baptist, recorded in John 3:30..."He must increase, but I must decrease"

Remember it's not all about us, or me or I, it is all about Jesus... Our Father God has all planned out already, waiting for us to hear Jesus, and "Obey Him"

Today, are we looking to Jesus, or are we looking to the world?

In Jesus mighty and majestic name we pray, Amen!

Following Hard After God is more than Believing....

"Even the demons believe—and tremble"

The next few days we are going to look at the difference between believing and not believing...all scripture based....

John 3:16-18...For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

So the 1st thing we need to do... so there is a condition of doing.... this first step is believing....

Do you know that even Satan and his minions believe in Jesus? James 2:19..."You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe—and tremble"

So there has to be more to it that this.....The scripture says "Obey" Why do most churches leave this part out?

A little further down in the same chapter, John 3:36... He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

See the word obey? Some versions use the word "believe" In the Greek...we have two verbs used here.....the word translated here for believe (πιστεύω = trust, have faith in, entrust with, believe in, etc).... the word that is translated here for obey (ἀπειθέω = disobey, rebel, disloyal, etc.)

Ellicott's commentary: he that obeyeth not the Son. The word, which occurs only here in the Gospels, is not the same as that at the beginning of the verse, and shows that the faith there intended is the subjection of the will to the Son, to whom the Father hath given all things (John 3:35)

Hebrews 5:9: “And having been made perfect, [Christ] became to all those who "obey" Him the source of eternal salvation...”

John 14:15: “If you love Me, you will "keep" My commandments” (Jn.14:15).

I John 2:3-4: “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we "keep" His commandments. He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”

So if you are only one who believes and does not obey, you fall into the same category as Satan and his minions.

If you Love Him and keep His commandments... there are many teachings and commands that Jesus gave us while on earth.... Are we obeying Him? Have we subjected or turned over our will to Him as these verses tell us?

Know today, that we have help from the Holy Spirit to "Obey" Him ...If we truly know Christ, we have a choice, and sin has no more power over us, Satan was defeated at the cross... choose Jesus... Love Jesus, and follow His commandments, not the world....

Following Hard After God!

How close are you with God?

So what are we to do?

This world now a days, most every church is telling you that all you have to to is believe in Him...This is correct, that you can not do any work to buy yourself salvation, to be saved, accepted as a child of God...what they neglect to tell you is that when Christ comes into your life, you should develop a seek and find attitude...seeking and looking to learn as much as you can about God the Father. and as much as possible as you can about Jesus His one and only Son....those who image we were made in....Doesn't this alone make you want to know more?

How do we know this? Follow a pattern given to us in the bible....

Yesterday I spoke on Moses.... today I will take you to King David, and the Apostle Paul.....

With King David, there was a torrent, or you could say it was like a violent or forceful flow of a strong stream of spiritual desire...we see this in his Psalms, with him crying out as someone who was always seeking God for direction, praising Him, Glorifying Him. Also we see the Psalms where he was one who found God, knew His help, knew His protection, knew His guidance, etc... We can't have this if we don't even know who God is, or who Jesus is. Besides a name we know, we hear, or maybe think of a few times a week, or maybe a year, if we thing of Him at all....

With the Apostle Paul, we see he confessed what the main desire in his heart was... Philippians 3:10...That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death...

How hard were King David and the Apostle Paul seeking after God? A lot harder than anyone I know....

A.W. Tozer stated "Everyone is as close to God as they actually want to be.".... How close are you with God?

Having a Desire to seek God...

We long to feast upon Thee still!

I remember a book I read on Following Hard after God...

It was stating that most Christians now a days, accept Christ, or at least they say they do, and then they are off to other things... Oh, maybe they go to church once and a while...They just want the free ride to heaven and not hell... there is no pursuing God at all...were in, no reason do do anything else. we have paid our part...

Is that what we see in the bible?...I also look at some of the older hymns, and have also read a few of the authors from the Christian authors of the 1700's, 1800's, holy men and women that had a desire after God.... They mourned for Him, prayed for Him, wrestled and sought after Him day and night, in seasons, out of seasons, and they actually found Him.... and they write, what a sweetness to come from the long seeking...

Moses knew God.... In Exodus 33:18-33...we see Moses asking to see God's glory. God allowed his "goodness" to pass before Moses but hid him in a cleft of the rock and covered his eyes, as seeing God's uncovered face would result in death..... God removed His hand as He passed, allowing Moses to see only His "back". This brief, indirect glimpse of the divine presence caused Moses's own face to shine..... Do You know God enough to make your face shine? Moses knew God well enough that he boldly asked to see God's unveiled, radiant glory directly....

I found this verse from a hymn written by St Bernard of Clairvaux, We taste Thee, O Thou living Bread, and long to feast upon Thee still; we drink of Thee, the Fountain-head, and thirst our souls from Thee to fill....

Do we have a desire to know more, or know Him more, a desire to Taste Him....or are we fair weather Christians that know who he is but have never had a deep desire to know Him?

Thoughts on seeking God

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness...

This week I want to look at our desire to seek God...

In this current world we live in, I strongly believe that Satan has surrounded us with so much clutter, that many of us have forgotten that there is a God, a Creator, Who is in Charge of all things...Going about our day with no thought of Him, some only think briefly on God on Sunday Mornings, some maybe on a few Holidays, say Easter and Christmas....

Even when many do have this brief thought, it is a passing thought, as the world has such a pull on them that the thought is gone until something happens in their life, stress, a tragedy? Then they can have this thought about God.... First, God Help me, then God, why me... then, there can't be a God if He lets these things happen, especially to me...

This may be the wrong time to be desiring God... The wrong time to be getting to know God... Should we not be seeking to know Him better every day starting today?

Not too long after Jesus gave us the Lord's prayer pattern in Matthew 6:9-13.... 20 verses later He gives us this verse that we need to start our day with..

Matthew 6:33 (LSB).. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV) ...But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Paul also tells us in Colossians 3:1-2...Therefore, if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

Where have you set your desire 1st thing this morning? Is it towards worldly things?
Is it set toward Heavenly Things?
Is it aimed at the Kingdom of God?
Is it aimed toward God at all?

Song Sunday, The Lord's Day!

"Our God, our help in ages past"

Looking back at the richness of the words that are recorded in many of the older hymns, I look at Isaac Watts one more time... This is a very well known hymn, and made up of 5 stanza's of an original 12 that comprised His reworking of Psalm 90 and printed in "The Psalms of David Imitated in the Language of the New Testament" written by Isaac Watts.. John Wesley used Watt's Hymns often... and changed the title to “O God, our help...” rather than “Our God, our help...”

Poem Saturday!

23rd Psalm, God our Shepherd

Today we look at Psalm 23 from "The Psalms of David Imitated in the Language of the New Testament" written by Isaac Watts.

Isaac was an English pastor, preacher, poet, and hymn writer. He is often called the "Father of English Hymnody", wrote over 6000 songs and 750 Poems, to include "Joy to the World" and "O God, Our Help in Ages Past.

Isaac Watts inspiration.... "Tho’ the Psalms of David are a Work of admirable and divine Composure, tho’ they contain the noblest Sentiments of Piety, and breathe a most exalted Spirit of Devotion, yet when the best of Christians attempt to sing many of them in our common Translations, that Spirit of Devotion vanishes and is lost, the Psalm dies upon their Lips, and they feel scarce any thing of the holy Pleasure. (Isaac Watts, The Psalms of David Imitated in the Language of the New Testament [London, 1719]

Watts’s desire and method of work was to put the psalms into a form that would express the truths of the gospel—the New Dispensation—rather than only those of the Old Dispensation...,replacing the impersonal "the Lord" with "Jehovah" and emphasizes a personal relationship with the divine.

Psalm 23...

God our Shepherd.

My shepherd will supply my need,

Seeking The Lord...Day 4

Focus on Jesus!

We seek the Lord because we become what we focus on the most!

What were you focusing on this morning? Was it Jesus? Was it our Father God?

3 John 1:11...Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.

If we focus on negative things, we will become negative.... If we focus on sensual things, we become sensual, if we focus on materialistic things, we become materialistic,....but when we focus on Jesus, we become more like Jesus, this is God's desire...

You can't have it 2 ways... Here are 3 verses leading to the same conclusion!

Luke 11:23...He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.

Matthew 6:24...No one can serve two masters: Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

John 15:23...Whoever hates Me hates My Father as well.

Therefore, let us seek the Lord, Love Him, Focus on Him every day of your life, starting when you wake, before setting your feet on the floor....

We will close this week by reading David's Psalms 63:1-8....and see How David seeks the Lord, and what the Lord does when David seeks Him...

Psalms 63:1-8... O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land without water. Thus I have beheld You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will laud You. Thus I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul is satisfied as with fatness and richness, And my mouth offers praises with lips of joyful songs. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches, For You have been my help, And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.

Seeking The Lord...Day 3

Have we turned all things over to Him?

Yesterdays e-mail must have been neeed to be read twice....the Holy Spirit at work....Some times we need to hear things more than once to set it in our hearts and minds....( message was repeated twice in e-mail).

Today we look at depending on The Lord...We need to seek Him and let Him know that we need to depend on Him in all things...

God is our provider and the source of all things...He also satisfies all of our needs... Leading to... He desires us to be dependant on Him, not just in some things, but in all things...How many times do we try to do things on our own and mess them up? Do you realise we can give it to God and let Him know we are dependant on Him to make things work for His Glory? I know for sure things will turn out better....

Philippians 4:19... And my God will fulfill all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

We need to reach out to Him in all thngs, not just when things seem desperate, or when there is no where else to turn....Know He is ready, willing, able, and most of all He desires us to give all things to him...

So many times I will just run and do things without even thinking about it, or bringing ot to Him...Start today with a conversation with Him, thanking Him for all He has done in our lives, and also telling Him we need His help in all things, Things go so much better when the person that already knows what is going to happen is leading us from the start....

Have we turned all things over to Him?

How about this short prayer.... Father God, I can't, You can, Help me please...In Jesus mighty and Majestic name we pray, Amen and Amen!

Seeking The Lord...Day 2

Admiration....

We seek the Lord because He wants to have fellowship with us.....

Is it possible to have fellowship with someone without respecting them, appreciating them, and even admiring them?

When God made us we were made in His own image, meaning that we are capable of loving Him, appreciating Him, and admiring HIm as He dos us...

His desire is to express His love toward us, admire us, and appreciate us....He desires to see His own reflection in us when He looks to us...So in retun, we are to seek him, admire Him, and appreciate Him, returning His Love, starting by knowing Him and His word, and keeping His word....

John 14:23...Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him.....(we will fellowship with Him)

Know today and every day that He is not only our Savior, Lord, Judge, Master, Ruler, and King,... He is our Beloved, and wants to build our relationship with Him every day....

Let our hearts grow in Respect, love, appreciation, and admiration, building our relationship with Him, as we fellowship with Him daily...
