Poem Saturday!

23rd Psalm, God our Shepherd

Today we look at Psalm 23 from "The Psalms of David Imitated in the Language of the New Testament" written by Isaac Watts.

Isaac was an English pastor, preacher, poet, and hymn writer. He is often called the "Father of English Hymnody", wrote over 6000 songs and 750 Poems, to include "Joy to the World" and "O God, Our Help in Ages Past.

Isaac Watts inspiration.... "Tho’ the Psalms of David are a Work of admirable and divine Composure, tho’ they contain the noblest Sentiments of Piety, and breathe a most exalted Spirit of Devotion, yet when the best of Christians attempt to sing many of them in our common Translations, that Spirit of Devotion vanishes and is lost, the Psalm dies upon their Lips, and they feel scarce any thing of the holy Pleasure. (Isaac Watts, The Psalms of David Imitated in the Language of the New Testament [London, 1719]

Watts’s desire and method of work was to put the psalms into a form that would express the truths of the gospel—the New Dispensation—rather than only those of the Old Dispensation...,replacing the impersonal "the Lord" with "Jehovah" and emphasizes a personal relationship with the divine.

Psalm 23...

God our Shepherd.

My shepherd will supply my need,
Jehovah is his name;
In pastures fresh he makes me feed,
Beside the living stream.

He brings my wand'ring spirit back
When I forsake his ways;
And leads me, for his mercy's sake,
In paths of truth and grace.

When I walk through the shades of death,
Thy presence is my stay;
A word of thy supporting breath
Drives all my fears away.

Thy hand, in sight of all my foes,
Doth still my table spread,
My cup with blessings overflows,
Thine oil anoints my head.

The sure provisions of my God
Attend me all my days:
O may thy house be mine abode,
And all my work be praise!

There would I find a settled rest,
While others go and come;
No more a stranger or a guest,
But like a child at home.

Seeking The Lord...Day 4

Focus on Jesus!

We seek the Lord because we become what we focus on the most!

What were you focusing on this morning? Was it Jesus? Was it our Father God?

3 John 1:11...Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.

If we focus on negative things, we will become negative.... If we focus on sensual things, we become sensual, if we focus on materialistic things, we become materialistic,....but when we focus on Jesus, we become more like Jesus, this is God's desire...

You can't have it 2 ways... Here are 3 verses leading to the same conclusion!

Luke 11:23...He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.

Matthew 6:24...No one can serve two masters: Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

John 15:23...Whoever hates Me hates My Father as well.

Therefore, let us seek the Lord, Love Him, Focus on Him every day of your life, starting when you wake, before setting your feet on the floor....

We will close this week by reading David's Psalms 63:1-8....and see How David seeks the Lord, and what the Lord does when David seeks Him...

Psalms 63:1-8... O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land without water. Thus I have beheld You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will laud You. Thus I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul is satisfied as with fatness and richness, And my mouth offers praises with lips of joyful songs. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches, For You have been my help, And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.

Seeking The Lord...Day 3

Have we turned all things over to Him?

Yesterdays e-mail must have been neeed to be read twice....the Holy Spirit at work....Some times we need to hear things more than once to set it in our hearts and minds....( message was repeated twice in e-mail).

Today we look at depending on The Lord...We need to seek Him and let Him know that we need to depend on Him in all things...

God is our provider and the source of all things...He also satisfies all of our needs... Leading to... He desires us to be dependant on Him, not just in some things, but in all things...How many times do we try to do things on our own and mess them up? Do you realise we can give it to God and let Him know we are dependant on Him to make things work for His Glory? I know for sure things will turn out better....

Philippians 4:19... And my God will fulfill all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

We need to reach out to Him in all thngs, not just when things seem desperate, or when there is no where else to turn....Know He is ready, willing, able, and most of all He desires us to give all things to him...

So many times I will just run and do things without even thinking about it, or bringing ot to Him...Start today with a conversation with Him, thanking Him for all He has done in our lives, and also telling Him we need His help in all things, Things go so much better when the person that already knows what is going to happen is leading us from the start....

Have we turned all things over to Him?

How about this short prayer.... Father God, I can't, You can, Help me please...In Jesus mighty and Majestic name we pray, Amen and Amen!

Seeking The Lord...Day 2

Admiration....

We seek the Lord because He wants to have fellowship with us.....

Is it possible to have fellowship with someone without respecting them, appreciating them, and even admiring them?

When God made us we were made in His own image, meaning that we are capable of loving Him, appreciating Him, and admiring HIm as He dos us...

His desire is to express His love toward us, admire us, and appreciate us....He desires to see His own reflection in us when He looks to us...So in retun, we are to seek him, admire Him, and appreciate Him, returning His Love, starting by knowing Him and His word, and keeping His word....

John 14:23...Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him.....(we will fellowship with Him)

Know today and every day that He is not only our Savior, Lord, Judge, Master, Ruler, and King,... He is our Beloved, and wants to build our relationship with Him every day....

Let our hearts grow in Respect, love, appreciation, and admiration, building our relationship with Him, as we fellowship with Him daily...

Seeking The Lord...Day 1

I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up!

We have been following Jesus, Looking to Jesus, now we will look at seeking "The Lord"

We seek the Lord because Jesus Christ desires to be the object of our affection.....I mentioned before that we are here to worship Him, He wants a relationship with us, He wants to be our focus, a focus that many in this world have lost..

We have a desire in our hearts to worship...the question is who we worship... this worship has turned to other things besides the Lord... Worldly things have taken His place....Things we desire are for I, I, I, or Me, Me, Me...what will make us happy... How we want things to go, falling into a "what we think we need" catagory in place of thinking what The Lord desires... "The Lord, Our God"

We were created to love and worship God. the service we do for him should be the overflow of a life of worship and love...Luke 10:27...And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

We need to leave everything up to Him, consult Him, He is our Jehova Jira, our provider of all things...this is why we need to seek Him, and re-kindle our relationship with Him the way it should be...trusting in Him , He wants us to be dependant on Him.

Have we lost confidence in Him? Do we not have a high enouph opinion of God? In our minds has God been reduced, modified, edited, changed, untill He does not resemble the God Isaiah saw, high and lifted up?

Isaiah 6:1-4...(LSB) In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is Yahweh of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory.” And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called out, while the house of God was filling with smoke.

Whoe see's and looks to God like this today?

Memorial day and The Soldiers Creed...

For those who Specifically Gave their lives for our freedom...

On this Memorial Day weekend, as we remember our soldiers who specificall gave their lives for our freedom, that we are able to live in each and every day, let us also remember our Savior who gave His life for us, knowing that we are indeed free in Christ!

Searching for a special message for Memorial Day, I came across “The Soldier’s Creed.” There are several places in the Bible comparing the Christian life to that of a soldier, and as I read the 12-parts of the Creed, I noticed the striking parallels. So, I matched up our faith alongside this "Soldier’s Creed."

1. I am an American Soldier.
(I am a follower of Christ)
"Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him" (2 Timothy 2:3-4).

2. I am a warrior and a member of a team.
(I belong to and serve in and through my local church.)
"For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another" (Romans 12:4-5).

3. I serve the people of the United States and live the Army values.
(I serve Christ and the living Church and seek to live by biblical truths.)
"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace" (1 Peter 4:10).

4. I will always place the mission first.
(I will always seek to serve Christ and the living Church first.)
"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit" (Romans 8:5).

5. I will never accept defeat.
(I will stand firm against the Enemy.)
"Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm" (Ephesians 6:13).

6. I will never quit.
(I will endure, even in suffering.)
"Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us" (Romans 5:3-5).

7. I will never leave a fallen comrade.
(I will come alongside fellow believers who are hurting.)
"Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2).

8. I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained, and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills
(I will live a disciplined life, through the power of the Holy Spirit.)
"But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified" (1 Corinthians 9:27).

9. I always maintain my arms, my equipment, and myself
(I will be prepared for spiritual warfare.)
"Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" (Ephesians 6:13-17).

10. I am an expert and I am a professional.
(I will accept trials, knowing that God uses them for my spiritual growth and maturity.)
"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing" (James 1:2-4).

11. I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America, in close combat....(I stand ready to engage and fight the battle before me.)
"For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10: 4).

12. I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.
(I will live in the freedom of Christ, regardless of my personal situation.)
"For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery" (Galatians 5:1).

In Jesus Mighty and Majestic name we pray... Amen and Amen!

Song Sunday, The Lord's Day!

"When I Survey the Wonderous Cross"

Yes, Today is Pentecost Sunday, and without the Cross of Jesus we would have no hope, we would have no resurrection, we would have no Pentecost....John 16:7....But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.... leading to Jesus telling the disciples just before the ascension as mentioned in Acts 1:4...And gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me;...they waited 10 days for the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost the day of Pentecost.....So today and every day we look to the cross of Jesus!

Written By Issacs Watts in 1707...Recorded by "Hymns of Grace"

"When I Survey the Wonderous Cross"

1.
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

2.
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ, my God;
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.

3.
See, from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down;
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

4.
Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all!

Poem Saturday!

"Oh Lord. I will Praise Thee"

Looking at this world and how we need to be praising God, I need to go back to some of the great Poem writers that actually praised God with their words and were not trying to make words fit... William Cowper is one of these true poem writers that looked to Glorify god with every breath, and stroke of his pen,
Inspiration taken from Isaiah 12....

"Oh Lord. I will Praise Thee" ....By William Cowper, written in the late 1700's

I will praise Thee every day
Now Thine anger's turn'd away;
Comfortable thoughts arise
From the bleeding sacrifice.

Here, in the fair gospel-field,
Wells of free salvation yield
Stream of life, a plenteous store,
And my soul shall thirst no more.

Jesus is become at length
My salvation and my strength;
And His praises shall prolong,
While I live, my pleasant song.

Praise ye, then, His glorious name,
Publish His exalted fame!
Still His worth your praise exceeds;
Excellent are all His deeds.

Raise again the joyful sound.
Let the nations roll it round!
Zion, shout! for this is He;
God the Saviour dwells in thee.

Looking onto Jesus... Day 10

Jesus Christ desires to be the object of our affection

Here is a great verse to show us exactly how we are to look to God...

Luke 10:27.....And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.

We seek the Lord because Jesus Christ desires to be the object of our affections...He wants to be our focus, the most important person in our lives, one whom we adore..

We were created to Love and worship God, this is to be our primary purpose here on earth....Our service should be an overflow of a life of worship, praise and Love for Him...

I think this culture, and many around us have lost their ability to worship Him as He desires..., and if you think you can enter heaven without properly worshiping Jesus and our father God...think again...

Time we figure this out and start worshiping Him properly... We start by evaluating how we have been worshiping God, or if you have been worshiping Him at all...also what other things you may be worshiping in your life...

Father God we bow down to You and give You all the glory, for all You do, and have done, and all you will do in the future, all because of Your love for us...

In Jesus mighty and majestic name we pray, amen!

Looking onto Jesus... Day 8

Our eyes look to Yahweh our God!

King David, gives us a lesson on how we are to be looking to Jesus and our Father God...Do we look as he tells us, look until He is gracious to us....

Psalm 123:1-2...To You I lift up my eyes, The One enthroned in the heavens! Behold, as the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, As the eyes of a servant-girl to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to Yahweh our God, Until He is gracious to us.

Some versions say mercy, other say grace... Looking at both Mercy and Grace...we will either have punishment withheld from us that we deserve(Mercy), Think of Mercy as compassionate restraint.... or we will be given Grace, an unearned empowerment or gift...or getting good things we did not earn or do not deserve...

We are to look as a slave looks to it's master....In Judea, slaves were often treated as an extension of the family unit, laboring and worshipping alongside the master's family....some with a high level of trust, and some given an education....

Servant-girls kept their eyes fixed on their mistress’s hand to catch subtle gestures or instructions regarding what to do next, and we need to remember that the hand of a master or mistress was the source of food, protection, and daily necessities..... this is how King David looked to God...

Lastly, we are told "So our eyes look to Yahweh our God, Until He is gracious to us."...Here we see that David is telling us that he looks straight at God and never takes his eyes off of Him till the mercy or grace is given to him...and Give Him thanks in all things!

How do you look toward God, or should I say, look at, or to Him?
Are our eyes fixed on Him, looking and waiting for God's gift to us, either mercy or grace? Or both? And when do we give Him thanks?

Looking onto Jesus... Day 7

Like Father, Like Son...

Wanting to be more like Jesus, we should be fixing our eyes on Him as He fixed His eyes on The Father....so we can live a life in the same path as Jesus.... Learning how He reacts to things and also how He responds to them...We are told here that Jesus should not do anything unless He see's the Father God doing it...same goes for us, we need to be looking at what Jesus is doing and do likewise, not as we do in our worldly ways...

John 5:19... Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing from Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in the same manner.

The Next verse John 5:20...For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel.

Because The Father God loves Jesus so much, He shows Him all things for Jesus to learn, and Jesus loves us so much that He also want's our attention, so He can show us how we should be living,... to include greater works...., and Jesus will tell us this again in John 14:12...Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do because I go to the Father....

John 5:30... “I can do nothing from Myself. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

Jesus is promising us these things if we stay fixed on Him, learning, and repeating, doing His will and not ours's.... and some of these greater works leads to the people we will be able to share the Gospel with!

Like Father, Like Son, As the meaning goes, children will often show the same behaviors, traits and character as their fathers.... What a better Father to learn all things from and to be able to mentor from!

Praise to You, Oh Christ!
