Ecclesiastes 11:3 reminds us God "has made everything beautiful in its time." Open your hands as you pray: "Lord, help me release the outcome of my parenting over to you, the ultimate keeper of my days."

We all know "comparison is the thief of joy." How have you compared your family to another family today? Find a photo of a family member on your phone—pause to offer thanks for that person. Feel the joy creep into your soul.

Turn your head to the left... Now to the right... You can feel the resistance to flexibility, right? In parenting, flexibility is required but not always embraced. Now bow your head, pausing to invite Jesus to give you the flexibility you need today.

In Luke 2, Mary and Joseph lose Jesus on the way home from the feast of the Passover. Three days later they find him in the Temple, and they tell him: "We were half out of our minds looking for you!" He tells them: "I'm just doing the job God sent me to do."

This same tension plays out over millennia — we love our kids, even when they scare us out of our minds. They are on loan to us while they grow into their God-named purpose. When they begin to live into that purpose, our love for them runs against God's purposes for them, and that is a BIG feeling. How are we holding onto this reality as we parent? How do we lean into the long game of parenting with God?

We feel immense pride in all our children's accomplishments. But as parents, do we honor our own parenting accomplishments? It's not arrogance, it's grateful and real. The courage it takes to guide our kids into lives of meaning and purpose is such important work! How are we acknowledging that accomplishment? How will we honor the work God is doing in and through us as our children grow? How is parenting changing you?

"Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for itself where it may lay its young at your altars, O Lord of Hosts, my King and my God" (Psalm 84:3). Parenting is just this: Laying your children at God's altar.

Hebrews 4:11 encourages us to enter into God's rest. Am I running laps around that rest instead of entering in? How can I prioritize time to rest in the middle of parenting? How might I encourage that same priority of rest in my children?

We live life on a freeway, when our souls are meant to live on a byway—space and time to breathe and be. Where are the "byways" on our family's daily/weekly schedule? How can I protect them? How can I help my kids exit the freeway today?

Release the unchangeable past to make space for God's peace in the present. When you throw something into your laundry bin, use that everyday act as a prompt to simply pray: "I release my past to you, Lord Jesus." Teach your kids to do the same, even if the "laundry bin" is their floor!

Trusting in God's timing often means waiting patiently for Him to act. Psalm 37:7 invites us to rest while we are waiting. How can I rest in the Lord's timing today? How will my kids know, today, that I'm trusting God for His timing in their lives?

Relentless: The all-nighters caring for sick children... The pile of dishes in the sink and unfinished chore charts... The dreaded Target "laugh and dash" — a devious giggle before before an unsanctioned dash toward the toy section... Parenting is a relentless 24-hour, seven-day a week job. But God is also relentless in his care for us, and his grace toward us. Parenting helps us learn that God is with each of us as we move through our own individual challenges. Relentlessly.
