On this day in 1707 Charles Wesley 18th of 19 children was born. He was a creative genious and wrote over 6,000 hymns. One we sing with joy during Christmastime is Hark the Herald Angels Sing. The opening line, written by Charles Wesley, was originally, ‘Hark how all the Welkin Rings’, and George Whitefield changed it because even in the eighteenth century most people had no idea that Welkin was an old word for heaven! Meanwhile, Mendelssohn’s tune that brought Wesley’s lyrics to life was one the composer himself thought was entirely unsuitable for church! Great creativity is always collaborative. I need other people all the time. I wonder, what creative relationships has God given me?
