UPDATE: CLASS IS FULL! Welcome to all of our new followers. We appreciate your engagement. We understand that because of the latest incidents of violence against African-Americans that many of you want to take action. However, if you are white, some education needs to take place before engaging in the work of racial reconciliation or jumping into a Be the Bridge Discussion group. But we are here for you!

We have created an on-ramp for you to engage in this work. Our resource, Be the Bridge 101: Foundational Principles Every White Bridge-Builder Needs to Understand, was designed especially for white people who are beginning to educate themselves about race matters in America. We will now be regularly offering an online class that will allow you to work through the guide and dive deeper into issues of white identity, white privilege, white fragility, and explore the history of white supremacy.

We highly recommended all white people engage in this curriculum before joining a Be the Bridge group.

Classes will be held via Zoom on Thursday evenings from 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM EST on June 25, July 2, July 9, and July 16. If you can't join live, you will be sent a recording of the video each week to watch at your convenience.

In light of and the disturbing trend that Covid-19 is disproportionately affecting communities of color, we see a surge of white people who recognize the need to educate themselves about racial injustice and inequality.

The burden to dismantle racism should not fall on communities of color. We live in this country together and it is only together that we will see change in our generation.

If you are a white person and would like to learn how you can be part of the solution and not perpetuate the problem, we invite you to Be the Bridge 101: Foundational Principles Every White Bridge-Builder Needs to Understand. This will be an interactive Zoom series.

The class is free, you simply need to purchase the guide from Be the Bridge for $10. Your purchase will help to support racial literacy programs and content created by Be the Bridge.

Join us. The first step is simply humbling yourself and saying, “I don’t know all the answers. I am ready to listen”.

Racial Reconciliation begins when we say, "I won't stay silent and let the sin of racism ravage what God created as good." As white people, it requires us to engage in listening, learning, and self-reflection. We all have a role to play.

I hope you will join us as we dive into Be the Bridge's resource, Be the Bridge 101: Foundational Principles Every White Bridge-Builder Needs to Understand.

The class will be offered on Thursday evenings (6:30 pm to 8:30 pm) during the month of February (6, 13, 20, 27) at Port City Community Church's Wilmington Campus. Be the Bridge is a non-profit established to promote racial literacy within churches and communities. BTB equips the church to be present and intentional toward racial justice and restoration.

This is a community event and all are welcome!

“Beyond serving as role models and mentors for African American students, African-American teacher representation has been found to increase the likelihood of African-American students going to college and being labeled as gifted. These studies speak to the ways in which African-American teachers have conceptualized these issues through a lens of an ‘opportunity gap,’ where students have access to higher expectations and acknowledgment of the intellectual resources they come to school with.”
