Leaders, what you allow to teach you matters. 📖🌱

Every book, sermon, podcast, conference, and voice you consistently receive from has the potential to shape your understanding and eventually influence what you pour into others.

This is why we cannot be impressed simply because something sounds deep, sounds spiritual, or includes Scripture. We must develop the discipline to examine what we're hearing against the Word of God.

Know what you believe. Know WHY you believe it. Study the Word for yourself.

Acts 17:11 reminds us that the Bereans received the teaching, but they also searched the Scriptures daily to see whether those things were so.

Leaders, don't just become a great receiver of information. Become a biblical examiner of information.

Because at the end of the day…

“What teaches you will influence what you teach others.”

LEADERS, HERE WE GROW AGAIN! 📖🌱

Leaders, everything that sounds spiritual is not necessarily biblically sound.

There are books and teachings that use the Bible, talk about Jesus, mention God, and use familiar Christian language, but when you examine the doctrine closely, some of their teachings contradict foundational beliefs of historic Christianity.

Be discerning when reading books such as:

📚 The Book of Mormon
📚 Doctrine and Covenants
📚 Pearl of Great Price
📚 Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
📚 The Oneness of God
📚 Jesus Christ Is Not God
📚 Elpis Israel
📚 True Christian Religion
📚 Heaven and Hell
📚 What Does the Bible Really Teach?
📚 Enjoy Life Forever!

Now, we're NOT EVEN going to get into the so-called “missing books of the Bible” today! 😂📚

I've already done a lengthy teaching on that subject, explaining the history of the biblical canon, why certain ancient writings are not part of the Protestant biblical canon, and why calling them simply “missing books” can be misleading. That's another teaching for another day!

But here's my point:

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU READ, AND BE CAREFUL WHAT SERMONS YOU LISTEN TO.

I'm not telling you to be afraid of information. I'm telling you to develop BIBLICAL DISCERNMENT.

Just because a book sounds deep doesn't make it doctrine.

Just because somebody mentions Jesus doesn't mean they're teaching the biblical Jesus.

Just because somebody quotes Scripture doesn't mean they're interpreting Scripture correctly.

Just because somebody has “Apostle,” “Prophet,” “Bishop,” “Pastor,” or “Doctor” in front of their name doesn't mean you should receive everything they teach without examining it.

Know what you believe.
Know WHY you believe it.
And KNOW THE WORD FOR YOURSELF!

Acts 17:11 tells us that the Bereans received the Word eagerly, but they also searched the Scriptures daily to determine whether what they were hearing was true.

That's maturity!

Before you repeat a revelation, recommend a book, share a sermon, or build a teaching around something you heard, CHECK THE DOCTRINE.

📖 Does it agree with Scripture?
✝️ What does it teach about Jesus Christ?
🕊️ What does it teach about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?
❤️ What does it teach about salvation?
📚 Is Scripture being treated as the final authority?

Leaders, you have a responsibility not only for what you teach, but also for what you allow to teach you.

Because eventually, what teaches you will influence what you teach others.

LEADERSHIP REQUIRES ACCOUNTABILITY - STOP BLAMING THE DEVIL FOR EVERYTHING.

There comes a time when leaders have to stop controlling the narrative, stop blaming people, stop blaming the devil, and simply own their actions.

Yes, spiritual warfare is real
Yes, the enemy attacks
Yes, leaders can experience persecution

But everything is not an attack.

Sometimes it is accountability.

Sometimes it is correction.

Sometimes it is consequences.

And sometimes we are simply reaping from decisions we made ourselves.

We cannot preach repentance to everyone else while refusing to practice it ourselves.

We cannot teach people to confess their sins, apologize when they're wrong, submit to correction, and accept accountability—then suddenly call it “the devil” when those same principles come knocking at our door.

The devil didn't make every decision.

There are moments when we have to say:

“That was ME.”

I made the decision.
I crossed the boundary.
I ignored the warning.
I hurt people.
I sinned.
I was wrong.
And I take responsibility.

David gives us a powerful example. When Nathan confronted him, David said, “I have sinned against the LORD.” (2 Samuel 12:13)

He owned it.

Leaders, repentance is not weakness.
Accountability is not persecution.
Correction is not automatically an attack.
And consequences are not always spiritual warfare.

We have to be careful not to spiritualize our lack of accountability.

There is grace after failure. There can be restoration after repentance. God can heal, redeem, forgive, and rebuild.

But genuine restoration begins with truth.

Stop blaming the devil for choices you made.

Own it.
Repent.
Make amends where possible.
Accept accountability.
Get healed.
Learn from it.
Grow from it.

And then allow God to determine what restoration looks like.

The same accountability we preach from the pulpit must still apply when we're the ones standing in need of repentance.

Leadership requires ownership.

It’s easy to point fingers when something goes wrong, but mature leadership asks a different question: “What part of this belongs to me?”

Accountability doesn’t make you weak; it reveals your character. Strong leaders are willing to acknowledge where they missed it, make the necessary correction, and grow from the experience.

You cannot lead others well while constantly blaming others for what you refuse to confront in yourself.

Stop blaming. Start owning. Keep growing. That’s leadership.

LEADERS LISTEN: There is a difference between sickness that needs treatment and sin that requires repentance. Therapy, counseling, and medical care have legitimate places, but Scripture teaches that when the root issue is sin, we cannot counsel away what God is calling us to confess and turn from.

1 John 1:9 teaches, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us...” The word confess carries the idea of acknowledging and agreeing with God about what is wrong.

Some things need therapy. Some things need treatment. Some things need deliverance. But sin needs repentance and wisdom is knowing the difference.
