Dreamed and created by Ohav Zedek, the Israel Ben Zion Academy, known to most as United Hebrew Institute, came to fruition linking Jews of the Wyoming Valley together through education and tradition. Though the building and entity are gone along with many of the people who defined It, its memory is strong for those connected to it. Ohav Zedek Is still operating In Wilkes-Barre where many UHI events were celebrated and Jewish learning and prayer continue. Ohav Zedek, as the parent shul of UHI, houses UHI's archives that we hope to go through with the help of our alumni and synagogue family. As Ohav Zedek Is commemorating Its 130th anniversary this year, we want to celebrate all aspects that made our shul, its school and community so extraordinary leaving a permanent mark on all our hearts!
