Koinonia Senior Care, Inc. Koinonia ➡️ Christian Fellowship
Enriching the lives of homebound seniors, their families, church & community! Koinonia (coin-oh-knee-uh) means fellowship.

Koinonia Senior Care believes that the value of Christian fellowship is a crucial component in our CARE ministry, enriching the social, spiritual and significance needs of those we serve. A bond begins to deepen and grow beyond the external services, to the heart and soul. Not all of our clients share our faith, but they know up front that KSC is built on a Judeo Christian foundation – a calling –

to serve others in the name of Jesus, an extension of who we are as Christians, and why we do what we do. At Koinonia Senior Care we believe that the family is the first source of assistance. Studies and experience have highlighted the physical toll caregiving puts on the primary caregiver. They need others to walk through this season of life with them. We serve alongside the family and church to provide encouragement, respite, and resources. We also assist those who have uninvolved or long-distance families by providing companionship they can trust and turn to for their non-medical CARE needs.

Article of the Month: I'll let YOU decide!

“To My Caregivers, My Children”
—You didn’t sign up for this.
Not for the slow unraveling of the parent you once knew,
not for the days that feel like watching me
fade in real time.

You didn’t sign up for the tremor in my hands,
the halting of my words,
the way I sometimes stare at the wall
because my mind has slipped somewhere you can’t follow.

You didn’t sign up for the smell of medicine on my breath,
for changing my clothes when I cannot,
for the endless cycle of pills, appointments,
and tears I try to hide.

And yet… here you are.
Not turning away.
Not running from the parts of this that are ugly,
or heavy,
or unbearably slow.

You see me—
not just the shell of me,
but the one who taught you to walk,
who stayed up in the night when you were sick,
who loved you before you even had a name.

And now,
you love me in the most unglamorous,
unphotographed way—
with hands that lift me,
with patience that holds me together,
with a steady presence that says,
“I will not leave.”

I know it’s hard to watch me
die by inches.
It’s hard to see me slip away
and still come back tomorrow,
ready to help me take another slow step.

But please know this—
every touch, every small mercy you give me
is not lost.
It is written in the deepest part of me.
And if I could,
I would gather it all into words
and tell you how much it means
that my last chapters
are being written in your hands.

Thank you—
for carrying me
through the part of life no one dreams about.
For showing me
that love doesn’t end
when the body begins to fade.

KSC is often that first mile of the journey for many seniors and/or families seeking companionship and a little assistance for themselves or their loved one. Many times, we continue supportive services alongside other providers through end-of-life care.

HOME VISITS
Koinonia Senior Care (KSC) is not home health or home care. We offer 2-4 hour home visits with a faith-based foundation, serving seniors and encouraging their family caregiver(s).

Our visits primarily serve our senior’s social, spiritual, and significance support, which may include a variety of activities for interaction as well as outings to the store, hairdresser, Bible study, and/or drives to expand their world. Often, we supplement hospice in the sacred end-of-life journey with visits to hold a hand, read Scriptures, and/or softly sing hymns about heaven.

Our visits secondarily serve our senior’s activities of daily living (ADL’s), which change over time, so we evaluate ADL’s routinely to keep seniors safe and to suggest further support needed beyond KSC’s non-medical limitations.

CHANGE IS INEVITABLE; ADJUSTMENT IS REQUIRED
Christine, KSC’s founder, adopted this life quote (above) when her grandparents lived with her family for twelve years. Christine explains, “Some transitions were not on my list of options, but God softened my heart and opened my eyes to the reality of the situation and my limitations.” KSC offers resources for families to consider when changes occur and transitions are needed.

KSC has Dr. Sandison's autographed new book in our lending library! This webinar will whet your appetite and bring hope to many. My take-aways from her book so far:
Approaching brain health from multiple angles is common sense, but uncommon practice.

Back to the Basic Approach: eat better, move more, more sleep, more challenging activities, more time with loving people

When you give the brain the nutrients and the conditions it needs to be healthy – and remove the irritants and toxins that harm it – it can rewire and repair itself at any age.

Learn about the KetoFLEX Diet for Brain Health with Julie Gregory from Apollo Health joining Dr Heather Sandison from Marama and Solcere Clinic.
