Catechesis of the Good Shepherd - Casa Dei Bambini Wichita Non Profit It began quite by accident, without warning or planning, the way God so often comes into our lives.

History of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd:

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is the result of a long period of careful observation of children by Sofia Cavalletti and her Montessori collaborator, Gianna Gobbi, in Rome. In 1954 Sofia was a Hebrew and Scripture scholar, comfortable in her role in the academic world, when a mother asked her to give some religious instruction to her son. At fi

rst Sofia refused, saying she knew nothing about children. The mother persisted and eventually, Sofia consented. That experience with a 7 year-old changed her whole life. She saw in that child and in numerous other children since, a way of being in the presence of God that is both unique to the child and a gift to the adult who stops long enough to notice. Perhaps it is because Sofia went before the child with no preconceived ideas of what should happen that the child responded with such joy. Certainly her background in Scripture made it possible for her to talk about God in a way that opened and enthused the child. From that day to the present time Sofia and Gianna remind us constantly to look to the child for that sign of a deeply religious life - joy - and to always ask the question: "What face of God is the child telling us he or she needs to see?"

We have exciting news to share with you! After several years of waiting and preparing, our ministry at Casa Dei Bambini has completed our foundation repair and basement remodel project at The Children's House. We will open the 2024-2025 year with a newly finished basement!!!

Our new space provides us with an expanded Level 1, a new Level 2 Atrium, a second bathroom, a new catechist formation space / infant toddler space, and a catechist work room. We could not have done this without the Lord’s blessings along with the love and support from all of you!

We are praising God for the many gifts he has provided to make this project possible. He has truly given us everything we needed to complete this project debt free. We praise God for faithful servants to our ministry, who offered their time, and talent and all those who also supported this project financially.

As a result of such an ambitious endeavor we find ourselves beginning the 2024 – 2025 year with a very low balance in our bank account. We would like to invite you to pray about joining us in donating to Casa Dei Bambini as we prepare to welcome the children to their new environment in just a few weeks.

As many of you know we are a 501©3 Non-Profit and all donations are tax deductible. We serve all children throughout the city regardless of ability to pay. We also form catechists for parishes throughout the city regardless of ability to pay. These expenses are in addition to our ongoing costs for utilities, upkeep of the house, consumables, retreats for the children, Bibles for every child (Level 2 and Level 3) and various other expenses.
