1928 Prayer Book Alliance

1928 Prayer Book Alliance A nonprofit corporation that promotes traditional faith and worship through the 1928 Book of Common Prayer.

1928 Prayer Book Alliance (formerly Episcopalians for Traditional Faith) was founded in New York City on February 6, 2002. The organization, a nonprofit 501c3 corporation, is dedicated to maintaining traditional faith and worship through the classic traditional 1928 Book of Common Prayer. We publish the 1928 BCP, the print newsletter Update, and other books and booklets that focus on the true fait

h and practice of the Anglican and Episcopal Church. Our website is: 1928prayerbookalliance.net

The traditional Book of Common Prayer, based on holy scripture, is widely recognized as one of the greatest books ever written in English. Our focus is on this uniquely American prayer book, introduced in 1928, the successor to Cranmer's 1549 original. From the eight founders in 2002, the 1928 Prayer Book Alliance has grown to a nationwide grass-roots organization. Our goal is to increase knowledge and use of the 1928 BCP throughout the Episcopal and Anglican Church in America.

A Farewell and A Tribute

In Memoriam: Jan Mahood, President of the 1928 Prayer Book Alliance

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved President, Jan Mahood. Under her dedicated leadership and unwavering conviction, the 1928 Prayer Book Alliance grew from a vision shared by eight founders in 2002 into a respected national voice for traditional Anglican worship.
In light of her passing, and after thoughtful reflection, we have made the difficult decision to conclude the work of the 1928 Prayer Book Alliance and close our operations.

Continuing the Tradition
Though the formal work of the 1928 Prayer Book Alliance is coming to an end, the spirit of our mission lives on. We encourage you to continue reading, sharing, and using the 1928 BCP in your own worship and communities.
We hope that the archives and resources provided over the years will continue to serve those who revere the liturgical heritage entrusted to us.

With Gratitude
To all who stood with us, supported our programs, and helped spread awareness of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer—thank you. Your fellowship was a constant source of encouragement to Jan and the entire board.

Though this chapter closes, the reverent, elegant, and powerful words of the 1928 BCP endure. May we continue to cherish and proclaim the beauty of our shared tradition.

hast prepared for those who unfeignedly love thee; through
the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY God, who didst inspire thy servant Saint Luke the Physician, to set forth in the Gospel the love and healing power of thy Son; Manifest in thy Church the like power and love, to the healing of our bodies and our souls; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Saint Luke, whose feast day we celebrate on October 18, is shown writing his eyewitness gospel on the life of Jesus Christ, or perhaps the book following the gospels, Acts of the Apostles, also attributed to him. His evangelical symbol, the winged ox, is depicted in this design by Burne Jones, crafted by Morris & Co. in a window installed in the chapel of Manchester College, Oxford.
