Christ City Church DC

Christ City Church DC We are a multiethnic, multigenerational, inclusive church in the heart of Washington, DC. We are called to Christ. We are called to this city. CITY
Place matters.

The calling of Christ City Church of Washington, DC, is bound up in our name. Embedded in that name are our highest values, our deepest longings, and the fullest vision of who we are becoming as God’s people and what we’re dreaming for our city. We are called to the Church. CHRIST
Christ City Church, revolves around the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christ is the object of our fai

th and the One on whom all our hopes and dreams hang. He is the One with whom we are captivated; he is the One to whom we look; he is the One we follow; and he is the One we invite others to follow. Where we see joy and beauty in our world, we acknowledge that as the handiwork of Christ -- the Creator, Sustainer, and Liberator of the world. Where we see brokenness in our world and in our lives, we cry out to Christ, the One who is working to renew all things, heal all things, and restore all things. Other than Christ, there is no name by which humanity is rescued and the wrong things in the world are set right. Because Jesus took on flesh and blood, lived in a neighborhood and identified with a people - we also root ourselves in neighborhoods and identify with people. Our place is Washington, DC. While many come to this city to consume it and to use it, we want to be among those who love it. Some of us have lived here our whole lives, and this city is our story for as long as we’ve had one. Others of us have come to call this place home. Still others of us are only here for a short while. All of us are learning what it means to follow Jesus in a locale; to be good neighbors; to be storytellers of God’s good news; and to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God in DC. CHURCH
Church isn’t a building, an organization, or an institution. And church isn’t a place for the perfect or pristine. Church is for the hungry, hurting, and hopeful. Church is a community of people who are ordering their lives around Jesus, rooted in a place; coming together to remember the promises of God and the work of Christ; and walking together as followers of Jesus. Our church is a collective of storytellers sharing the greatest story of all in a thousand ways, to remind one another when we forget and to invite others who haven’t heard. We are a people gathering to remember, and then scattering to tell, the gospel of Christ Jesus.

The week of Easter is coming soon, and we would love for you to share it with us here at Christ City!

March 29th is Palm Sunday, which will be a fun and slightly more brief family-friendly service, where kids and youth will be joining us. Childcare will be available for little ones ages 3 and under.

Our Good Friday service is on April 3rd at 7pm at Miner Elementary, where we’ll be worshipping together with our friends from Table Church and Peace Fellowship.

Then, come celebrate Easter morning with us on April 5th! We have two Easter Sunday services at 9am and 11am, so you can choose the time that works best for you. Kids City will be running at the 9am service, and childcare is available at the 11am service for children ages 8 and under.

No matter which services you make it to, we can’t wait to see you and you friends or families to celebrate together!

"I want to see us continue to call out empire, to pursue integrity, to be present and pay attention to the needs around us, to follow Jesus in what he said and did, to intertwine our lives with the marginalized, to do work that helps someone else flourish. There’s so much for us to do together, but I don’t need to remind you of that. Today, I hope you hear this and let it settle in your spirit: God promises to sustain us. In the ways you think you can sustain yourself but actually can’t, and in the ways it feels impossible – you will be sustained."

Join us on Saturday 1/17 (in TWO WEEKS!) as we host Cuban-American theologian, author, and speaker to discuss Liturgies for Resisting Empire: Seeking Community, Belonging, and Peace in a Dehumanizing World.

In her latest book, Armas offers a roadmap to Christians seeking a counter-cultural way of living that prioritizes community and humanity over dominance and power. Providing practical spiritual disciplines, community-building strategies, and theological frameworks that empower readers to resist empire’s dehumanizing effects while cultivating spaces of authentic belonging and liberation, Armas offers hope for Christians struggling to live faithfully within systems of exploitation and oppression.

There will be time to hear from the author, as well as question-and-response time. A book signing will be included in the planned programming, and books will be available for purchase, while supplies last.

Co-hosted with our friends and . The event is FREE but RSVPs are requested: go.christcitydc.org/katarmas.

P.S. On Sunday 1/18, Kat Armas will be guest preaching at Christ City.

Every Advent, we take up an offering that goes beyond our own walls—a tangible expression of the hope we proclaim. Advent reminds us that God does not stand far off. In Jesus, God draws near to a weary world with hope, peace, joy, and love.

Our Advent Offering is one way we embody that same nearness — by stepping toward those carrying heavy burdens and toward communities longing for relief. After a year marked by so much devastation, we felt called to support organizations meeting people’s most basic needs, especially as more and more find themselves in vulnerable situations. The recipients of this year’s Advent Offering at Christ City Church are: The Angel Scroggins Memorial Fund, supporting young people transitioning to adulthood; Our Daily Bread, a daily breakfast ministry on Capitol Hill; Paz y Esperanza, supporting communities in Latin America; and TDO, responding to the genocide and displacement in Sudan.

The season of Advent asks us to wait—and to give. Not because giving solves everything, but because it reflects, however imperfectly, the God who gave Godself. In a weary world, generosity is resistance. It’s hope made visible.
