"To those who promote war as the only way, we say: war is not the way. We reiterate our call for an end to the bloodshed and destruction. We reject war and threats of war, because we believe that war is an absolute evil, benefiting only warmongers. The losers are civilians and among them the most vulnerable. They pay a heavy price in blood for the sake of the economic and political interests of warmongers."

The opening session of this 3 part series examines the political and theological power of competing narratives around violence, victimhood, and oppression in South Africa and Palestine. As claims of a so-called “white genocide” in South Africa continue to circulate globally despite widespread criticism from scholars and human rights advocates, Palestinians and international observers have increasingly raised urgent alarms about the realities of mass displacement, collective punishment, and genocide in Gaza. Grounded in the lived experiences of South African and Palestinian leaders, the session invites participants to wrestle with questions of justice, solidarity, and the ethical use– and misuse– of the language of genocide.

Join Combatants for Peace for the 7th annual Joint Nakba Remembrance Ceremony—an opportunity to commemorate the Nakba ("catastrophe" in Arabic), when more than 700,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homes in 1948. This year’s theme, “Sumud in Humanity,” reflects resilience. Sumud is not only steadfastness—it is the conscious choice to remain human in the face of ongoing violence, displacement, and loss. The ceremony invites us to remember, to resist dehumanization, and to hold onto dignity, compassion, and justice as the foundation for a shared future.
