We're so excited to celebrate Rabbi Sue Shankman and Cantor Susan Bortnick for their 25 years with Washington Hebrew Congregation on Friday, May 29. Still, they acknowledge they didn't get here without some help.

Now is not the time for Jews to close down. Open up and look for allies everywhere is what Noa Tishby suggested in her conversation at Washington Hebrew Congregation last week.

How important is that 8:00 pm email, really?

Rabbi Rachel Schmelkin encourages us to step away from the constant pressure to always be "on" in her Shabbat@WHC sermon.

What a night! Thank you so much to Noa Tishby for a wonderful conversation that challenged the audience to educate themselves so that we as Jews can educate others.

If you'd like to hear more of these beautiful harmonies (in a more comfortable space than a stairwell), you should come to Shabbat@WHC this Friday! Pre-oneg with food & drinks at 6:00 pm, service at 6:30 pm, with a dessert oneg to follow. Hope to see you there!

25 years ago, a new group of rabbis and cantors was ordained at Hebrew Union College. Three of those new graduates came here to WHC, with a fourth coming along with his wife. Earlier this week, they received honorary Doctor of Divinity degrees from the college.

Mazel Tov to Rabbi Sue Shankman Namath and Cantor Susan Bortnick for continuing to lead our congregation, Rabbi Joui Hessel for her past service at WHC, and Rabbi Michael Namath, for being such an important part of our WHC family.

Whether it’s 121 emails or a million things pulling at us, Judaism reminds us to pause, reflect, and try again.

🌠 In a galaxy not so far away... 🌠
On a day when many say β€œMay the 4th be with you"...
Jewish communities gather around glowing bonfires to celebrate Lag B’Omer.

Like beacons in the night, the flames remind us that light and joy can shine through any darkness.

From your WHC clergy:
May the 4th be with you...
and may the fire of Lag B’Omer burn tonight. πŸ”₯πŸͺ΅πŸ––
