The Children and Youth Department of the Purity Sunday School presented an excellent display of the Full Armor of God today during our Sunday Morning Worship. We are grateful for Reverend Inez Rollins, Deaconess Gwendolyn Milligan, and all of the leaders who organized this presentation. We are extremely grateful to the children and youth of Purity that participated and allowed their lights to shine so brightly for the Lord.

Today, we wore our Sunday's Best Attire in proud celebration of Black History Month, honoring Black Dandyism—a tradition of stylish, dignified presentation that celebrates elegance, self-respect, and cultural pride within Black communities. This look reflects the legacy of storytelling through style and the beauty of self-presentation, as we celebrate the creativity, resilience, and leadership within Black communities and set a positive, confident example for ourselves and others as we reflect on our history and future. Purity Baptist Church and Urban Center turned 79 years old, a testament to enduring faith, service, and community. We’d love to feature your selfies too. Send or post your photo with a note about what your outfit represents to you, and include the hashtag . We’ll include you in our upcoming highlights and celebrate together. Blessings and gratitude to all who participated today. Let’s keep lifting each other up and honoring our history with style, grace, and ongoing fellowship.

With heavy hearts, the Purity Baptist Church and Urban Center Family stands united with our Senior Pastor, the Reverend Dr. Robin A. Toogood II to extend our deepest condolences on the passing of the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. A tireless civil rights leader, mentor, and man of faith, he devoted his life to the dignity and equal rights of every person.

As founder of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, Reverend Jackson championed racial and economic justice, voting rights, and opportunities for Black Americans. His leadership helped to broaden the modern civil rights movement beyond traditional boundaries, uniting faith, policy, and activism in service of a more just society. His enduring message—“I Am Somebody”—reminded generations that every life has inherent worth and that inclusion and opportunity are essential to the common good.

We honor the collaboration between our second pastor, Dr. J. Terry Wingate, and Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.—contemporaries who worked together on many impactful initiatives for the advancement of our people. Their partnership stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when faith and action join forces for justice and dignity for all.

We give thanks for his extraordinary legacy of faith, leadership, and advocacy, and we hold his family, friends, and all who were blessed by his presence in our prayers. May his memory be a blessing, and may we continue to be inspired by his example to love our neighbors, work for peace, and strive for a more just world.

In this season of mourning, we find comfort in our faith, in the support of one another, and in the assurance that God’s love endures. We ask for God’s peace to surround Rev. Jackson’s loved ones and our nation as we navigate this profound loss.

As we continue our celebration of Black History Month here at Purity, this Sunday our colors were black, red and gold in honor of the Black American Heritage Flag. The Black American Heritage Flag was created in 1967 as a way to instill pride in our people during the Cival Rights Movement. Here are a few photos of those who wore the colors for in person worship! Add your selfie and we will add it to the post!
