Episcopal Compline for Creation Care will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, on Zoom at 8 pm Eastern Time, 5 pm Pacific time. Compline, an evening of prayer and meditation for all of God's creations, is usually held on the first Monday of each month. However, in September, that falls over the Labor Day weekend.

For this same reason, the monthly Green Caucus general meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, on Zoom, rather than the previous week.

Links will be provided for both Compline and the Green Caucus meeting during the first week of September. Creation Care Compline is a joint service by the Green Caucus of Episcopal Church and Creation Care ministries of The Episcopal Church. The Green Caucus joins the Episcopal Public Policy Network in thoughtfully praying for our world overwhelmed with plastics.

We're deeply grateful for the Episcopal Public Policy Network which writes: "Join us each week as we share new prayers for the vulnerable among us facing challenges, fears, and threats. We will name many of the harms unfolding and acknowledge what is being erased, lost, and threatened.

"These prayers are not a replacement for action; they are meant to offer space for grounding and discernment as we seek to bear one another’s burdens in the love and way of Christ."

Is your Episcopal parish ready to celebrate the Season of Creation, which is from September 1 through October 4, and St. Francis Day, the last day of Season of Creation? And don't forget that "The Feast of St. Francis—the patron saint of animals and the environment—is celebrated on Oct. 4. Worship inspired by the feast typically includes pet blessings, prayers for environmental protection and conservation, and a call to a lifestyle of simplicity and service."

The Green Caucus is appreciative and excited about news that grants are newly available for local church ministries to fund projects involving "nature restoration, regenerative agriculture, climate advocacy, and environmental justice."

Grant proposals for projects up to $15,000 will be accepted until October 26, 2026 by the Episcopal Creation Care churchwide office team. They will collect and review the proposals, then forward them to the relevant Eco-Region leaders for evaluation. All Episcopal churches and dioceses are eligible, whether or not they officially belong to an Eco-Region program.

Commented Rev. Stephanie Johnson, Green Caucus Co-Chair and Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Riverside, Connecticut, "There's real excitement in talking about grants. I love this model of really getting into local communities."

The annual Season of Creation starts soon, on September 1, 2026. The Season of Creation, which is from September 1st through October 4th, is celebrated by Christians around the world as a time for renewing, repairing and restoring our relationship to God, one another, and all of creation. The Episcopal Church joins this international effort for prayer and action for climate justice and an end to environmental racism and ecological destruction.

"Christian leaders from around the world have invited churches to join this ecumenical journey of faith and action as we care for our common home," writes the Anglican Communion. A fervent prayer from the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada, which is presently facing massive wildfires in Northern Nevada.

Prayer in the Midst of Wildfire

God of refuge and mercy, spread your sheltering wings over all who are threatened by these fires, sustain those who protect our communities, including firefighters, pilots, dispatchers, law enforcement officers, volunteers, and all who work long hours in dangerous conditions. Quiet the winds. Cool the air. Send moisture to this dry and thirsty land. Hold back the flames and lead us safely through these days. Amen.

The Green Caucus general meeting is on summer recess, and will not be held on August 12, 2006, Wednesday. Green Caucus monthly meetings are usually held on the second Wednesday of each month.

As part of its Creation Care ministries, The Episcopal Church is forming regions, called eco-regions, to address environmental, climate, water, agriculture, food, and clean energy concerns, mostly specific to issues in each geographic area.

Twelve eco-region networks, spanning 55 of the 106 dioceses, have thus far been established across the Episcopal Church – both domestically and internationally. (Click the photo or headline below to see the list of established eco-regions.)

Eco-region networks were approved at the 81st General Convention in 2024. An eco-region network is established when three bishops in different dioceses–not necessarily contiguous–appeal to the Presiding Bishop. The initiative is led by Bishop Cathleen Bascom of Kansas, the church’s consultant for eco-region networks.

"I think the most critical thing we can do in the coming weeks is to get the word out that there are grant opportunities for creation care initiatives becoming available soon. And where there are ideas, the church can help resource congregations and dioceses in their creation care initiatives. My hope is that through the networks, the good work being done at the local level can be shared, celebrated, and perhaps replicated in other communities looking to make an impact," commented Rev. Joshua Saxe of St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Twelve regional networks involving 55 dioceses focus on shared issues like watershed protection, grasslands preservation, and wildfires.

Creation Care Compline is on summer recess on Monday, August 3, 2026. Episcopal Creation Care Compline is normally held the first Monday of each month on Zoom at 8 pm Eastern time, 5 pm Pacific time.

In September, however, Creation Care Compline will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, as the first Monday falls on the Labor Day holiday. So please mark your calendars for September 14, and enjoy your summertime in God's beautiful creations, be it the ocean, the mountains, woods, or lake - wherever you are rejuvenated by nature in summertime.

Creation Care Compline is a joint service by the Green Caucus of Episcopal Church and Creation Care ministries of The Episcopal Church.
