Are you ready to realize your full potential, to get out of behaviors that tear you down so that you can truly grow and live? In John 12, Jesus says that while one seed alone is "dead," once planted, the seed grows and produces fruit. That sounds good! Now how do we get there?

So here’s the thing about following Jesus: It’s Hard. It’s difficult to let go of some of the things in life that the Bible says tear us down: gossiping; ungodly relationships; partying; immodest clothing; swearing; yelling; vengeance; mixing Christianity with other gods or spirits; greed; and the list goes on.

Getting out of these things might mean a lot of change. It might mean people look down on you for choosing Christlike-living. BUT who will those same people come to when they are hurting and need prayer or wisdom? You.

Do you truly want to grow and experience a life lived in the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control)? Then it’s time to let go of selfish desires and worldly values that ultimately tear you down and leave you “dead” inside. You need to commit to Christ–-not just your eternal destiny, but your everyday life.

Is there a change that you need to make today? Is God piercing your heart right now? Let’s pray!

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for offering me Life. Help me to let go of the things that hold me down. Set me free, Lord! Bring me supportive Christian friends and community and help me to let go of ___. Fill me with your Spirit and set me on a healthier path. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Our world is filled with fear, pain, and grief. Have you ever wondered where God is in all of this? I believe that Jesus is standing with us, weeping.

Illness, Death, Grief. In today’s Bible reading, Jesus’ friend Lazarus was sick and died, leaving his unmarried sisters and his community grieving. When Jesus arrived, His response gives us the shortest verse in the Bible, “Jesus wept,” (Jn 11:35).

This is a broken world. Jesus came and gave His life to fix it. But, this doesn’t happen all at once, and for now, despite the atrocities and cruelty and death, souls are being born and loved and saved. So when you find yourself in a dark place, remember that the sun always rises. Hold onto Life, Love, and Hope–-they are real, and they overcome.

As you grieve and hurt, know that you are not alone. Your God weeps with you.

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You, that You weep with me. Comfort me in my pain and shine a light in the darkness. Bring me life and love and hope. Reveal Yourself to me and give me strength and community. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Jesus came to give you LIFE! Before Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He said to Martha, “I Am the Resurrection and the Life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (Jn 11:25-26). Martha said “Yes,” that she believed that her brother would rise again in the future. However, Jesus was going to raise him that same day.

While we may not experience bodily resurrection today, we can experience a spiritual resurrection, a spiritual new life right now.

You see, resurrection is about LIFE. In Christ, the old goes away and the new comes (2 Co 5:17). In Christ, the old self is put off like an old coat and a renewed mind is put on in its place (Ep 4:22-24).

So many of us think and say bad things about ourselves: “I’m stupid. I’m ugly. No one would choose me.” LIES from the pit of hell!

Jesus wants you to replace those old lies with His TRUTH, for you to say: “I am fearfully and wonderfully made. God created me with a purpose. Through Christ I am able to fulfill that purpose. I am smart. I am talented. I am able.”

Can you say these truths out loud right now to start owning them? (Literally, I’m asking you to stop and say them out loud right now. Did you do it?)

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for dying to give me a new life. Help me to let go of the harmful words and phrases that I say to myself. Help me to embrace Your truth about who I am. Fill me with Your Spirit and heal me. Resurrect my soul! Heal my mind! Give me a fresh start! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Jesus says: “I give them eternal life and they will never *ever* perish–-into eternity–-and Never will anyone seize (sn**ch, rob) them out of my hand.”

If you are the Lord’s child, nothing and no one (not even yourself) can change that. Jesus paid a high price for you on the cross to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to have access to Heaven. Here in John 10:28 Jesus assures us of the eternality—the foreverness–-of our relationship with Him.

Friends, many people fear that for some reason or another God is going to reject them. That God might have liked them when they were “good” but now that they did (or didn’t do) something, surely they are “going to hell”–-that they are damaged goods that God wouldn’t want. I rebuke that thinking! That’s a lie from the pit of hell!

JESUS says once you are His child, you will “not-not” or “never ever” (οὐ μὴ) be utterly lost into eternity. Rest assured of this–-Christ Jesus will never leave you nor forsake you–-He loves you on your good days and most especially on your bad. You are loved! You are wanted! You were worth dying for!

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You that you died on the cross for me, that You love me just as I am. Help me to understand and accept Your love for me. Heal me from self-doubt and self-destruction, and give me the joy of knowing that I have been chosen and I have an eternal home with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

God is calling you to LIVE! He wants you to have an “abundant” (περισσὸν), “more than expected” kind of life. Today’s chapter gives us some wisdom on how to make that happen.

Here in John 10, Jesus says that He is the “gate” and that He is the “good shepherd.”

In His culture, sheep were often kept in a round enclosure made of rocks (like a low rock wall) or in a cave with rock walls to narrow the entrance. The shepherd would then lay his body in front of the opening, making him a human door to protect his sheep.

Jesus says His sheep hear His voice and follow Him, saying that while “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full,” (Jn 10:10).

An abundant life starts by hearing Jesus’ voice and following Him.

Don’t let the lies of the enemy deceive you into believing that living God’s way will be boring and loveless. That party - that relationship - drowning your sorrows - Jesus has something better for you!

Friend, you have been called to LIFE and Jesus wants to give it to you *abundantly* — so step away from that thing that is dragging you down, causing hurt and chaos in your life. It’s time to take care of yourself by making certain that you are following Christ’s voice and no other.

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for calling me. Help me to hear Your voice and to follow You into safe spaces and away from the lies of the enemy. Give me the courage to LIVE and live life Abundantly despite the challenges and pain in my life. Thank you today for ___ and ___. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

If you believe that Jesus is the Son of Man–the Savior of the world—then today, right now, you should worship Him with all that you are!

Here in John 9:25 a man is given back his sight by Jesus. When Jesus then tells him that He is the Son of Man the healed man then worships Jesus—it’s one thing to be a doctor or healer, it’s totally another to be the “Son of Man”!

What does the “Son of Man” phrase mean?

In Daniel 9:13-14 this is a divine figure who is worshiped and “comes in the clouds” and has an eternal kingdom. Revelation 9:13-16 says He has “eyes that blaze like fire” and is “First and the Last.” A popular writing in Jesus’ day (which the healed man would have known) says He sits on a throne of glory and “the word of His mouth slays all sinners,” (1 Enoch 37-71; 62:2).

Whoah! No wonder the healed man dropped to his knees and worshiped Jesus. I would be super grateful for someone to restore my eyes, but you fall on your face before God!

I am calling us (you and me) to fall on our faces before the living God today. It’s not enough to sing a praise song or offer a few words of thanksgiving, there is a time and place to drop to your knees in awe of the one who comes in the clouds, the First and the Last, who created all and will judge all.

Do you believe in the Son of Man?

*** A Prayer: Lord, thank You for revealing your truths to me. Please help me to spiritually see and understand who You are as the Son of Man. Open my spiritual eyes to your awesomeness. I worship You and You alone. Jesus, it’s in Your name I pray, Amen!

God is calling YOU! This world is full of darkness and people are lost in it. He wants you to shine His light to help others find the way to His peace, love, and joy.

Here in John 9:5 Jesus says, “WHILE I am in the world, I AM the light of the world.” However, since His resurrection and ascension (when He went up to Heaven physically), Jesus is in Heaven until His Second Coming. Until He returns, He has filled *you* with His Holy Spirit so that you can *shine* His light to others.

Friend, it’s not enough for me to write devotionals for you, your pastor to preach, and Christian artists to sing–-YOU are God’s link to your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

Share an encouraging Instagram post with a friend, bring a friend to Bible study with you (we all need community), or share an encouraging song or word.

Most importantly, be a loving friend who listens, encourages, and forgives. Don’t just tell people about Christ’s love, you need to Be Christ’s love to someone. Make someone a meal, help someone clean … what act of kindness can you do today?

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for shining Your light in my life. Help me to seek You for my own healing and forgiveness, then build me up and strengthen me. Please help me to shine Your light and share Your love with others. Reveal to me how to do that today. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

All tangled up in something? Wrapped up in a bad romance, financial issues, or ... you know what it is. What a mess! Jesus says He is the TRUTH and He will set you free! But how does that work … like in daily life?

The first step to getting out of your mess, is to get in a right relationship with your creator. Admit you have made some moral mistakes in your life (we all have) and ask forgiveness.

Second, forgive others. That doesn’t mean they get to hurt you or others again—it means you hand over your anger and hurt and let God deal with them for “Vengeance is mine says the Lord,” Rom 12:19.

Third, let go of worldly living and live life God’s way. Check out Galatians 5:19-24 for some direct guidance and a list of spiritual benefits.

Fourth, change can be hard! Find some Christian friends, a small group, and a church to support and care for you (there are a lot out there—find a good one!).

It may take some time, courage, and change—but the TRUTH of Christ *will* set you free!

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for providing a way for me to go. Put people in my life to encourage me and help me–-and when I’m healed, use me to encourage and help others. I believe that You are the crucified and resurrected Son of God. Forgive me for my sins. Set me free from myself and my mess! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Need direction? This crazy world either doesn’t seem to have what we need or it gives us too many options! It’s a good thing that we have Jesus to shine His light on the right path!

Okay, I realize that your specific issue is probably not answered directly in the Bible (which place to rent, person to date, or job to take). However, Jesus does give us principles that can help guide us through these decisions through His Word.

The most basic principle is this: Look to God for your answers! The only reason to *not* turn to godly wisdom and direction would be: 1.) you don’t know where or how to find it; OR 2.) you know what God would say and you don’t like the answer.

Friend, don’t run from what you “think” God will say, find out for sure!

While the Bible might not say which apartment to rent, it will talk about how to be wise with your money, what are the best kinds of people to hang out with, and what your gifts and calling are. Go dig into the Bible with a friend or in a Bible study and let God shine a light on what direction you should take!

***A Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for giving me access to a Bible. Help show me who the people are that I can trust to lead me through it and give me Your Holy Spirit to understand what I read. Please give me wisdom and direction. Open the doors that need to be opened and shut the ones that need to be shut. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Is your prayer too small? What if God wants to do way above and beyond what you can even imagine?

Here in John 7 on the last day of Sukkot, as the priests poured out the water offering at the Temple—this was done by people who lived in a dry climate and prayed for rain—Jesus stood in the Temple and said that anyone who believed in Him would be filled with *rivers* of Living Water flowing out of them.

Can I encourage you today to open your mind and heart to a God who is greater than you can imagine? Who has plans for you beyond your everyday cares? A Jesus who is audacious and who might want you to be audacious (take a bold risk) too?

***Let’s pray: Lord, thank You for being greater than I have ever imagined and for having greater plans for me than I have dreamed of. Give me the vision and courage to seek and receive Your plans for me. Fill my soul with Living Water! Let it pour out and bless those around me! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
