Pergamum had some issues tolerating idolatry and immorality. Jesus tells them to repent. He knows where you live. He knows what is going on in your world. Tolerance is not a new religion, but an old sin. Do you hate what God hates and love what God loves? Be faithful. Be an overcomer.

In difficult times, often what is needed most is a person to offer an encouraging word. The Church at Smyrna, a Church that received no correction, was under affliction, poverty, and slander. But rather than offer empty promises, John speaks hard truth to this struggling Church. Truth which we need to hear in our seasons of affliction.
