Earlier today, on May 28, a semi-truck carrying 40,000 pounds of donated food arrived at Clark County Food Bank, bringing together civic, nonprofit and faith leaders in support of households struggling with the rising cost of food in Clark County. The delivery, part of a special JustServe and America250 service initiative, is expected to provide enough food to feed about 1,400 people for one week.
The shipment, donated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will support the food bank’s network of more than 50 nonprofit agencies operating across 200 distribution sites. Together, these partnerships help get food into the hands of families during vulnerable times.
Food insecurity often affects people in ways that are not always visible, according to Emily Straw, president of Clark County Food Bank. “It’s working families, seniors, and neighbors doing everything they can to stay afloat,” Straw said. “A truckload like this helps us respond quickly, meet growing needs, and make sure more people in our community have access to the food they need without having to choose between feeding their family and covering other basic needs.”
Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle said many households throughout Southwest Washington continue facing financial challenges as food costs remain high. “Clark County Food Bank does important work every day supporting local families, and it’s encouraging to see The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continuing to support those efforts through food donations and volunteer service alongside many other volunteers and community organizations,” McEnerny-Ogle said.
“We are grateful for the Clark County Food Bank and the compassionate work they do every day to care for individuals and families throughout our community,” said J.R. Zundel, president of the Vancouver East Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “As followers of Jesus Christ, we believe in loving our neighbors and helping those in need. We are honored to partner with an organization whose dedicated staff and volunteers bring hope, dignity and nourishment to so many.”
The Clark County truckload was one of 250 deliveries of donated food being distributed to communities across all 50 states as part of a U.S. nationwide effort honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary.
