“Jesus’ Example in the Home”
1 Peter 3: 1-7

Peter addresses husbands and wives in 3:1-7. We are to follow Jesus’ example in our homes with our families. Husbands, wives, and children are challenged to follow in our Savior’s footsteps.Let me say first, that there are no perfect families. All of us are corrupted by sin. Likewise, there are no perfect churches. I’ve heard it said, if you find one, don’t join it because you’ll ruin it. I say this to say simply that since none of us are perfect, the thing to do is, with God’s help, to seek to work to better our marriages, families, and home life. After these many years of life, I would say that the number one thing that we all must work on is self. Too many people, including Christians, are selfish. We want things our way. We’re not willing to give an inch. From our text, let us notice some practical helps that will make our homes a holy, happy, peaceful, place.

“Jesus: Our Example in Society”
1 Peter 2: 11-25

Peter tells us, in this text, to submit to the governing authorities.
Sometimes we may find this difficult to do. However, when Peter wrote this, Nero was the Emperor of the Roman Empire.
Christians were persecuted, crucified, burned at the stake, and fed to the lions in the Colosseum in Rome. Again, we are to follow the example of Christ. How did Jesus respond to the governing authorities in His day? He suffered at their hands and was executed upon the cross. All the while, He did not revile or threaten those who lied about Him, and called for His crucifixion. But rather, He forgave them. We are to submit to those in authority, especially at the local level to law enforcement officers. If there is a problem, it can be settled in a court of law. We are a nation of laws. God has a purpose for all governments. It is mainly to provide peace, safety, and stability in society. This is mainly done in our homeland by our military, and state and local police. Anyone who wants to defund the police is antichristian. Without police there would be anarchy in the streets. Some say Christians should be silent about political issues. Tell that to the prophets of old, who boldly condemned immoral wrong behavior in society. We can do the same.

“Jesus: Our Master Builder”
1 Peter 2: 1-12

Jesus declared that He would build His church and the gates of hell would not prevail against it. He is the foundational corner stone of the church. We are the living stones, of this generation, with which He is building His church. We are being built upinto a spiritual house. Our building is not haphazard, but is according to an intelligent plan brought to reality by a Master Craftsman. The overall design is a house in which God dwells. Jesus is also described here as a chief, foundational Cornerstone, which was rejected by Israel, but elect and precious to God. The church will also be rejected and hated by those who are of the world. As Jesus is building us, we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a special kind of people. In other words, we are on Team Jesus. As believer-priests, like the priests of old, we have direct access to God. Weare to be responsible to offer sacrifices, prayers, and call peopleout of darkness to God’s marvelous light and mercy. Simon bar Jonah declared that Jesus was the Christ, Son of the living God.That’s when Jesus gave him the nickname “Peter” (petros,small rock). Jesus then expressed that He would build His church upon the Rock (petra, foundational stone) of Himself.

This Memorial Day, we honor the fallen heroes who gave everything for our country. May we never forget their courage, sacrifice, and service.
