🎤 APDA Iowa Parkinson's Conference - Speaker Highlight: Music & Parkinson’s

Discover the powerful connection between music and the brain with Ryan Smith and Dr. Elizabeth Stegemoller from Iowa State University’s Alternative Medicine and Music for Parkinson’s Disease Lab.

Ryan Smith, a Ph.D. student in neuroscience and kinesiology, studies how rhythm and music support movement in people with Parkinson’s disease, building on his clinical experience as a music therapist in neurorehabilitation, mental health, and hospice care.

Dr. Elizabeth Stegemoller, Professor of Kinesiology and director of the Alternative Medicine and Music for Parkinson’s Disease Lab, leads groundbreaking research on how music impacts both motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s. With more than 60 publications and multiple funded studies, her work explores how music and singing can improve movement, stress, inflammation, and overall well-being.

Together, they bring science and innovation to life, highlighting how music-based therapies can support those living with Parkinson’s.
