What if you have spent so much time watching for the harvest around you that you have not noticed what God has been growing inside you?

That question convicted me.

Because when we pray for something, naturally we watch that thing.

We pray for someone to change, so we watch them.
We ask for the door to open, so we keep staring at the door.

We ask God to grow something, restore something, provide something, or fix something…and every day we measure whether the circumstances look any closer to the answer we expected.

But James 5:8 gives us another direction…
“Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts.”

While the farmer waits for the field, something needs to happen within the person waiting too.

Our hearts need to become established.♥️

Steady.
Rooted.
Less easily moved by what we can and cannot see.

Friend, maybe you are still waiting on the same thing you were praying about last year.🙏🏻

And I will not pretend that waiting does not hurt.

Some waiting carries real grief.
Some prayers concern people we deeply love.
Some situations leave us asking God questions we simply do not have answers for yet.

But perhaps there is another question worth bringing before Him…

Lord, who am I becoming while I wait?
Have I become more prayerful?
More dependent upon Scripture?

More compassionate toward other hurting people?
Less controlling?
More patient?
More willing to obey without immediate reward?
Or has disappointment slowly made me bitter, withdrawn, cynical, or spiritually numb?

Sometimes we are desperate for God to change the field while He is lovingly putting His finger on our heart.

And that does not minimize what we are waiting for. It simply reminds us that God cares about more than giving us an outcome.

He cares about making us more like Christ.

So yes, keep praying for the harvest.🙌🏻🍂

But while you wait, ask Him to deepen your roots too.

Because sometimes one of the most beautiful things God produces in a long growing season is a heart that has learned…Even here, I can trust Him.

🙏🏻Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You that no season surrendered to You has to be spiritually empty. While I wait for answers, help me pay attention to what You are doing within my own heart. Search me and reveal where impatience, fear, pride, bitterness, or a desire for control has begun taking root. Stablish my heart in Your truth rather than allowing my emotions to be controlled by changing circumstances. Teach me to desire spiritual growth as much as I desire changed circumstances. If I have become so focused on one outcome that I am missing what You are teaching me, redirect my attention. Help me grow deeper in Your Word during this season. Strengthen my prayer life and teach me to depend upon You more completely. When the waiting feels painful, remind me that Your grace is still sufficient. Give me humility to accept that Your answer may not always look the way I imagined it would. Help me recognize the fruit of the Spirit You desire to produce in me. Guard my heart from becoming bitter because my timeline has not been fulfilled. Make me more patient, more faithful, more compassionate, and more rooted in Christ. And when I eventually look back upon this season, may I be able to see not only what You did around me, but what You graciously changed within me.

May we crave Jesus—not just when we need Him, but because we simply can’t live without Him. 🤍🙏🏻

What a blessing it was to look up and see faces of folks who I thought would be gone.

The world teaches us to climb higher, to seek recognition, influence, and positions of honor. But Jesus—the King of Kings—chose to go lower.

He had every right to be served, yet He picked up a towel and washed His disciples’ feet. He showed us that true greatness is not found in being above others, but in humbly serving them.

Jesus didn’t just preach humility. He embodied it.

And if the King was willing to kneel, how much more should we be willing to serve? 🤍🙏🏻
