Christ is risen! Indeed He is risen!

Team Pennsylvania completed both their construction and safety day two weekends ago at St. Philip Orthodox Church in Souderton, PA.
They learned a few safety skills and construction information with two of our adult leaders. While learning, they used their safety skills to build 6 wooden benches for the church!

Then, they were able to practice working together and using construction skills to built a fire pit for use at St. Philip’s.

These were great opportunities to begin learning and practicing the three S’s of ASP: Safety, Stewardship, and Sensitivity. We are excited to continue preparing for our mission trip in just a few months!

Christ is risen! Team New England has completed 4 of 6 trainings for the 2025-2026 year!

1️⃣ Pictures 1-15: A couple weeks ago, we gathered for our annual Tool & Safety Training at Christ the Savior in Southbury, CT. Our teammates from Vermont and NH joined us in-person, as well as our new teammates from Steelton, PA. It was so wonderful to have the entire New England Team together in person!

2️⃣ In late February, we gathered on Zoom (due to a snowstorm) for our annual Sensitivity, Stewardship, and Cultural Awareness Training. Youth and adults learned about some of the unique struggles faced by the families we serve in Appalachia, and engaged in group discussions to help understand where stereotypes come from and learn how to treat others with sensitivity.

3️⃣ Pictures 16-17: In early February, we kicked off our annual Stock Fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who has supported us thus far!

4️⃣ Pictures 18-20: In January, we kicked off the year by gathering in-person and on Zoom. This training focused primarily on scripture study as we looked atAppalachia Service Projectt's theme verse for the year and the surrounding passages. For a fun cultural awareness surprise, adult leaders prepared their favorite Appalachian dishes that homeowners have cooked for their crews in the past!

In July 2017, 20 experienced youth and 6 adult leaders of the Orthodox Youth Mission Team embarked on a life-changing mission trip to Napaskiak, Alaska, in partnership with the Orthodox Christian Mission Center. We served in the villages of Napaskiak, Oscarville, and Eek, traveling to each location from Bethel by skiff. We were in absolute awe of the strength of the Orthodox faith we witnessed there, and the resilience of the Western Alaskan people through extreme seasons.

The area in which we served has been devastated by extreme flooding from Typhoon Halong. Wind gusts reached 100 mph and homes were destroyed. At least 2,000 people were evacuated and some may be unable to return home for many months. These are generally not people who have the means to rebuild. While many of the families we met in Napaskiak still have their homes, they've lost skiffs and snowmobiles, which they rely upon to make their livelihood fishing and get to the mainland for essential supplies and medical care.

We spoke to our connections in Napaskiak who advised us that the best place to send donations is the Alaska Community Foundation, https://alaskacf.org. Please give with your heart. OYMT will be taking up collections in our participating parishes over the next few weeks and we ask that you do the same in your own. Most importantly, please pray for our Orthodox brothers and sisters and everyone affected by this disaster.
