The Verse That Disappeared

Open a King James Bible to Matthew chapter 17 and you will find, right after verse 20, a verse that many modern translations have quietly removed from the text entirely. Verse 21 reads:

Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.— Matthew 17:21 (KJV)

If you reach for a newer translation — the NIV, the ESV, the NLT — you will discover that the verse is either gone, relegated to a footnote, or placed in brackets with a note explaining that "the earliest and most reliable manuscripts" do not contain it. And there is a technical truth behind that claim. The two oldest complete Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, Codex Sinaiticus (dated approximately AD 325–360) and Codex Vaticanus (dated approximately AD 300–325), both omit this verse. The great uncial codices Alexandrinus (5th century) and the vast majority of later manuscripts, however, include it. The Textus Receptus, which was the compiled Greek text used by William Tyndale and later the translators of the King James Version, contains it without question.

When the Wicked Prosper - Faith in the Furnace of Injustice

How to keep your soul when the guilty walk free, the faithful suffer, and the very systems sworn to protect you have been bought and sold.

Reflection May 2026

The Scales of Justice Imbalanced

"The systems of this world are not inherently just. They are run by fallen human beings with vested interests."

There is a particular kind of despair that settles into the bones when you have done everything right and still lost. You told the truth. You followed the law. You trusted the process. You prayed. You waited. And in the end, the liar was believed. The thief was promoted. The abuser was protected. The murderer walked free. The court ruled in favor of the one with the better lawyer, the deeper pockets, the more powerful friends. And you were left standing in the wreckage, wondering if God saw, if God cared, or if God was even there at all.

I write this for the ones who have been there. For the whistleblower who was fired instead of honored. For the victim whose story was buried under paperwork and payoffs. For the honest worker who watched the cheat advance. For the parent who could not protect their child from a system rigged against them. For the believer who looked at the world and whispered, "How long, O Lord?" This reflection is not a promise that justice will arrive on your timetable. It is a reminder that justice is real, that God is not blind, and that your faith — though tested by fire — is more precious than gold.

I know these subjects all too well…grief, death, murder, rejection and the main topic su***de. I hope this helps someone out there who is experiencing loss of any kind.

Side note: I have also attached my personal pastoral notes on su***de. Biblical references and theological history.

The Unfinished Road: On Grief, Absence, and the Words We Never Spoke

Grief is not a problem to solve - it's a landscape to walk through.

Reflection May 2026

"A road that doubles back, a weather system that clears and returns without warning."

There is a particular ache that has no name in our vocabulary. It is not quite sorrow, not quite regret. It is the phantom pain of a conversation that never happened, a reconciliation that was postponed until it was too late, a love that was left unspoken because we assumed there would always be tomorrow.

We are not prepared for this. The culture offers stages, as if grief were a staircase with a landing at the top. It is not. It is a road that doubles back, a weather system that clears and returns without warning, a room you think you have left only to find yourself in again.

The Many Faces of Loss

The loss of a loved one to age or illness carries a certain shape. There is time, however insufficient, to circle the truth. But murder leaves a jagged edge. Divorce leaves two people alive yet severed, a death in the form of geography. Being dumped is the smaller, daily death of being chosen and then unchosen. Old age - watching one's own body become unfamiliar - is a grief that happens while you are still here to feel it.

Each has its own texture. None is commensurable with another. To compare them is false comfort.

Su***de: The Grief That Hates

And then there is su***de. Which is a category so broken it breaks the categories around it.

The God Who Never Minted a Coin

On the madness of money, the myth of the mega-church, and why the One who made the stars never made a banknote.

Reflection May 2026

The Cross Above the Coins

"You cannot serve both God and money." — Matthew 6:24

Walk through any city in America and you will see two truths side by side, impossible to ignore. On one corner, a human being sleeps beneath cardboard, hungry, invisible, forgotten. On the next block, a cathedral of glass and steel rises — a "worship center" with parking structures, coffee bars, LED screens the size of billboards, and a budget that could feed a village for a decade. The same city. The same God. Two completely different religions. One worships the Crucified. The other worships the coin.

I do not write this with bitterness. I write it with grief. Because I have seen what money does to souls. I have seen the homeless man reduced to a statistic while the wealthy man is elevated to a saint. I have seen families torn apart over inheritances. I have seen friendships dissolve when one person succeeds and another does not. I have seen churches transform from houses of prayer into houses of commerce, where the offering plate is heavier than the cross, and where the pastor's jet is justified by "evangelistic reach." And I have seen the quiet, devastating truth that Scripture warned us about from the very beginning: money is not neutral. It is a test. And most of us are failing it.

Hands Off the Vines

On Marriage, Meddling & the Quiet Sin of "Helping"

Why the most dangerous advice often wears the mask of good intentions, and what Scripture says about the sacred boundary between two souls and their Creator.

Reflection May 2026

The Gardener Tends the Vines

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener." — John 15:1

There is a particular kind of harm that arrives disguised as love. It knocks on your door with casseroles and concern. It sits at your table with Scripture on its lips and judgment in its eyes. It calls itself "helping," "caring," or "just looking out for you." But beneath the warm language lies something older and colder: the desire to control. To shape another person's marriage according to one's own preferences. To insert oneself into a covenant that was never meant to include a third party. And the Church, for all its talk of family values, has too often blessed this intrusion rather than condemned it.

I write this not to condemn the well-meaning mother-in-law, the anxious father, the sister with opinions, or the friend who cannot resist sharing "what she would do." I write it to invite them — and all of us — to examine whether our "help" is truly love, or whether it is something far more dangerous: the projection of our own unlived lives onto someone else's sacred ground.

The Covenant of Two

The Covenant of Marriage
"What God has joined together, let no one separate."

Marriage, in the biblical vision, is not a social arrangement. It is not a family project. It is not a community endeavor. It is a covenant — a binding, holy agreement between two people and God. The language of Genesis is striking in its exclusivity:

"That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh."-GENESIS 2:24

Above the Page

God, Disclosure & the Cosmic Author

On why the existence of other worlds does not diminish the sacredness of this one, and what it means that the Author stepped into His own story.

The Author's Book in the Cosmos

"The Author exists outside the narrative, above the text, holding the entire story in mind."

There is a strange anxiety creeping through the Church these days — a quiet tremor at the thought that we may not be alone in the universe. Government disclosures, once the stuff of science fiction, now arrive with the weight of official testimony. Craft of unknown origin. Beings of unknown biology. Worlds beyond our own, perhaps teeming with life we have yet to comprehend. And for some believers, this raises a question that shakes the foundation: If there are others out there, what does that mean for us? What does it mean for the Bible? What does it mean for God?

I want to suggest something that may bring peace rather than fear: it changes nothing. Not because the cosmos is small, but because God is infinitely larger than we have imagined Him to be.

There is a peculiar sorrow in watching a people who claim the Name turn their backs on the very commandments they profess to hold dear. In the American South, where church steeples rise from nearly every horizon and Scripture adorns courthouse walls, a quiet crisis of conscience is unfolding. And it demands that those who truly believe ask themselves a hard question: Are we living the Word, or merely displaying it?

05/05/2026

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come before you with a heavy heart, seeking the strength to release those who have set themselves against me. I lift up my enemies to you-not in judgment, but in the hope of their transformation.

I pray for their awakening. Let your light pe*****te the shadows of their hearts. If they are walking in darkness or driven by 'evil ways,' I ask that they be confronted by your truth. May they be exposed-not for the sake of shame, but so that the roots of their bitterness, trauma, or malice can be pulled into the light for true healing.

I pray for their peace. Grant them the kind of peace that the world cannot give-a peace so profound that it removes the need for conflict, ego, and harm. Fill the voids in their spirit with a love that makes their current path unthinkable.

I pray for their forgiveness. I ask that you forgive their sins and the debts they owe to righteousness. Soften my own heart so that I may let go of the desire for retaliation, trusting that you are the ultimate judge and restorer of balance.

Lead them toward a path of repentance and grace, and in doing so, grant me the freedom to move forward in light and love.In Jesus’s name I pray. 🙏

Amen.

The Distinction That Changes Everything

There is a difference between going to church and following Yeshua. The first is an event you attend. The second is a direction you walk.

Many enter the building for excellent reasons: community, tradition, the comfort of shared belief. These are not small things. But the Master himself seemed to treat the synagogue as a convenience, not a destination. The Gospels record him there on occasion—reading Isaiah, disputing with scholars—but the bulk of his ministry happened over meals, on roads, at wells, in boats, in gardens at night. The sacred space was wherever a human being stood in need of dignity, truth, or healing.

This reflection is not an indictment of the church. It is an invitation to ask whether we have confused the vessel with the contents, the gathering with the going, the label with the life.
