Many preachers have been accused of using familiar catchphrases just to get a cheap amen and an emotional rush. But lately, it seems some are using the name of our president for that same quick reaction.

This doesn’t change the fact that we should address social injustice and political corruption when the text demands it. That’s faithful preaching. But our sermons can’t be more Trump than triumph. The pulpit must point people to Christ, not to applause.
