They don’t understand.
Philip asks to see the Father—

“Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”

the answer is standing in front of him.

John records 7 “I am” statements from Jesus.
“I am the bread of life.”
“I am the light of the world.”
“I am the door.”

Each statement begins with “ego eimi”—echoing God’s words in Exodus 3:14.
These are not just metaphors.
