The Church is the only grouping on the earth that can actually be baptized in the Holy Spirit and pray in other tongues.
That is why praying in tongues is essential for the believer. It’s not good enough for you to be born again and not be baptized in the Holy Spirit and speaking in other tongues. Some say, “Well, I’ve tried it, but I can’t get it. I don’t have tongues.” That’s nonsense. If you ask the Lord for bread, He’s not going to give you a stone (Luke 11:11).
The truth is, people who say that likely don’t want tongues. You may say, “Well, steady on, Pastor Paul. That’s a little tight.”
But that’s the truth for so many in the Church who have yet to be filled with the Spirit. They want to be in control. They want to go to prayer meetings and pray everything they know and tell God what He should be doing.
But we’re not here to do what we want to do. We’re here to do what HE wants us to do. And when we pray in other tongues, in the Spirit, then we pray in accordance with the plan and the purpose of God for our lives and for those people around us.
This is really the ABCs of getting started in God. And new believers should be like 30 minutes born again and already speaking in other tongues! Jesus stands ready to baptize every one of them with the Holy Ghost and fire (Matt. 3:11)!
You see, fire is not something that you graduate into. Fire is something that you operate in the moment you receive the Holy Spirit! But we have made it religious — like we progress to fire.
But this is not a progression. This is ignition! Jesus lights the fuse of the spark within you, and off you go! Yes, knowledge will increase. Knowledge will come. That’s different. But as for the power of God, He gives you the power to become a son of God (John 1:12). And He gives you the power to operate as a son of God. And He doesn’t want you to live even three weeks without empowerment as a believer!!
