How was everyone's Thanksgiving? I'm so thankful that there is a God! I'm thankful for the resurrection of our Lord, which gives me the hope of eternal life! Is there anybody else out there that is thankful for something meaningful?

The whole world lies under the power of the evil one. We can't free ourselves from his grasp. We need someone more powerful than him to free us. Just ask who that may be?

Salvation in the Old Testament
Text: Jeremiah1-3[According to the Prophets] A series of Questions God asks His people.

Before salvation comes, there must come a repentance, for the people were immersed in sin, taken on them by copying the sins of the nations around them. And this was no different in Jesus’ day. One thing common in Jesus’ day was a need to call people to repentance, which both Jesus and John the Baptist did.
I. How Jeremiah was called into the Ministry: [Jeremiah 1: 5] – “ Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou came forth out of the womb I sanctified thee and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
II. “Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak; for I am a child. But the Lord said unto me: say not unto Me I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.” Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, says the Lord. Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put My words in thy mouth. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant. See, first there comes a doing away with the old way of doing things, and then comes in the living of a new life, a new way of doing things. Although there first is a change of heart that takes place, and then the ushering in of the new way of doing things; and God’s word is the catalyst, when moved upon by the Holy Spirit. A life lived by faith is still the means of salvation.
III. [Jeremiah 1: 16] – “ And I will utter My judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken Me and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands. These things must be repented of.
IV. And it shall come to pass, when you shall say Why does the Lord all these things unto us? Then shall thou shall answer them, Like you have forsaken Me, and served other gods, in your land, so shall you serve strange gods in a land that is not yours.
V. [Jeremiah 6: 14] – “ They have healed the hurt of the daughter of My people slightly, saying, peace, peace, when there is no peace.” [Jeremiah 6: 19] – “ Because they have not hearkened unto my words, but have rejected them.
VI. The reason the Lord pours out all these judgments upon Israel, and upon Judah, is because they are a witness to those nations round about them, so they have an example to follow: if they follow the Lord, they shall be blessed, if not, they shall be punished. A witness they shall be, whether a good witness, or a bad witness. God’s witness of Himself still stands, He will bring honor and glory to Himself, whether in love and mercy or in justice and righteousness. No matter who you are, if you follow the Lord with your whole heart, you will be blessed, however, if not, but only follow the Lord with a heart feignedly, you will only be rewarded half-heartedly: “ Because they have not hearkened unto My words, nor to My law, but rejected it! Yet for all this, His anger is not quenched, but His hand is stretched out still.

Despite the hardness of Israel’s heart, their God still finds a way to single out those who still have faith in the Lord God, Almighty. God has not left Himself without a witness. He still has His prophets, who faithfully preach His word. His hand is stretched out to a rebellious and a stiffnecked people, but to the humble in heart, He still opens His heart To them, at least to those who acknowledge his word, and His sovereignty. [Jeremiah 9: 23,24] – “ Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, nor the mighty man in his might, nor the rich man in his riches; but let those who glory, glory in this, that he knows and understands Me. [Jeremiah 24: 7] – “ And I will give them an heart to know Me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be My people, and I will be their God: for they shall return to Me with their whole heart.” Those in the O.T., looked forward to the cross. And those who live now look backward to the cross, as a means to salvation.

The Woman of Samaria
[An example of One-on-One witnessing by Jesus
Sermon by Pastor Don Dildine. 08/25/16.

Text: John 4
The first verse in this chapter tells us that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John; so that Jesus’ influence is growing. Another distinction is also made: Jesus is not partial in who He talks with, except to say, He is sent first to the lost sheep of Israel. But Jesus is not prejudice; in this case, unto a Samaritan woman.[ The Samaritans are a mixed race, being part Jewish and part descendents of the peoples whom Sargon II, who settled in Samaria after he conquered it and the northern Israelites. Jews like Jesus did not eat or drink from the same vessel as a Samaritan, for it would make them ritually unclean. However, later, when the book of Acts was written, Peter saw in a vision, by God, what God has cleansed to no longer call common or unclean.[referring to the Gentile believers.]
Samaria, was in existence during the reign of King Ahab, and also during the time of Jesus. The disciple Philip preached in Samaria in a revival going on there. We now turn our attention to the woman of Samaria: Jesus asked her for a drink, while sitting at Jacob’s well. To which the woman, at first, resisted, by telling Jesus that Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Why do you ask me? Jesus responded by saying, If you knew the gift of God[the Holy Spirit, and eternal life] and who it is that says to you, give me to drink, you would have asked him, and He would have given you living water.
[John7: 30] – “ He that believes on Me, as the Scripture has said, out of His innermost being shall flow rivers of living water. [John 7; 39] – ‘ but this he spoke of the Spirit: which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given, for Jesus was not yet glorified.
[John 4: 13,14 – “ Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again. But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give Him, shall never thirst: but the water that I shall give Him shall be in Him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. “ The woman said unto Him,” Sir, give me this water to drink that I thirst not, neither have come here to draw.”
When we worship God, we need to put our whole self into it. God is a Spirit, and desires such to worship Him in Spirit and in truth: the Spirit is the Holy Spirit, and the truth is the word of God. When we worship God with all our hearts, then is God happy and blessed. [John 4: 25] – “ I know when the Messiah comes, He will tell us all things. “ I that speak to you am He,” said Jesus.
The Samaritan Woman drew attention to the one who saved her, and gave meaning to her life. She shared the experience with her family and friends, in order for them to do the same. He forgave her all her sins, and gave purpose and meaning to her life. She now, would enter into a relationship with God. Now, she was connected to the source of life, Jesus is that source. And, let’s not forget the Holy Spirit, which delivers that source of life. Her friends, believed in Jesus as well as the rest of the towns people .Not just because of the woman’s testimony, , but because they had heard and seen Jesus for themselves, and were convinced themselves that, indeed Jesus was the Christ, the Savior of the world.

Blind Bartimaeus
[Mark 10:45] – “ For Even the Son of man came not to be Ministered unto, but to Minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Text: Mark 10: 46-52

“And they came to Jericho: and as He went out of Jericho: with His disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging, And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace, but he cried the more a great deal, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying, unto him, Be of good comfort rise, he calls for thee. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. And Jesus answered and said unto him, What will you that I should do for you? The blind man said unto Him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way: thy faith has made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.”
I. Some observations. He lived near or in the city of Jericho.
A. He was the son of Timaeus.
B. He sat by the highway side.
C. He was begging.
D. Jesus was with his disciples and a great number of people.
E. The blind man heard that Jesus of Nazareth passed by.
F. The man cried out, “Jesus, thou Son of David, Have mercy on me.
G. The crowd charged him, that he should hold his peace. He then cried out the more, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. I think that Jesus appreciated his persistence. In another situation. There were 4 men carrying a paralyzed man upon on a cot, but the crowd was too much, so they went a different route: they carried him up to top of the roof and dug out a hole, and let him down right in front of Jesus. To which Jesus replied, you have such great faith, your sins be forgiven you. And be healed: take up your cot and walk.[another example of persistent faith!
II. Jesus responds to the blind man: He stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they called the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, he calls for you. And Jesus said to him, what do you want me to do for you? The blind man replied, Lord, that I might receive my sight. Jesus said to him, Go thy way, thy faith had made you whole: not just a physical healing, but also spiritual one as well. And immediately he received his sight, And he followed Jesus in the way.
III. I think that a lot of the times we are selfish in our prayers: we ask for healing in our own bodies, and if nothing else comes up we focus too much on ourselves: but actually we have the same grace and power that Jesus had, if we could keep our focus on Jesus, then we would be more ready to be used to heal others’ sicknesses and diseases in quiet and simple, reverent prayers. It seems Jesus would heal us in the service of others. As Jesus said to the people He healed; “Be it according to your faith. “

Why is it that we don’t pray near often enough, for others, in their hour of need? You know, we have the same Holy Spirit that Jesus and His disciples had. We need to make ourselves available to the Holy Spirit as opportunities arise, whether we’re prepared or not, Let us not be ashamed at the judgment seat of Christ, when called upon for numbers we could have healed, if only we had been obedient. Let’s Pray!
