Overflowing Grace A group of Kensington Church individuals passionate for the love, care and feeding of Traverse City's Unhoused and Food-Insecure Community.

Traverse City Homeless Community

* Approximately 250 individuals are actively experiencing homelessness in our region today (NWMCEH)

* 95+% come from our local communities

* 20+% are currently working

* Approximately 30% are “Chronically Homeless” – 70 Individuals

* 72% are individuals, 28% are in family groups

* Approximately 50% are “sheltered” with some
form of temporary shelter – the rem

with no form of shelter or bed

* Just over 20% of this population is deemed
“chronically homeless” – persistently
homeless for over 1 year or repeatedly
homeless. These tend to be the most critical
with significant physical and mental disability

* 65+ in age represents 14% of the homeless
population and growing

* At present, approximately 80% of local homeless are
housed within 1 year

* The greatest barrier to ending homelessness is lack of
available affordable housing.

* Vacancy rate in target communities – 5-8%

* Vacancy rate in our community – 0.9%

* Vacancy of deeply affordable units in GT area – 0%
