Hello fellow Christian developers,

I’m reaching out to ask for your help in reviving 𝐏𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐒𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝, a free and open-source iOS/iPadOS Bible app built on The SWORD Project engine by CrossWire. For many years, 𝐏𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐒𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 served as a reliable, offline Bible study tool — giving access to hundreds of Bible translations, commentaries, and other resources.

Unfortunately, 𝐏𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐒𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 has not been updated in several years and is no longer available on the App Store.

The original developer is no longer maintaining the project, and the app does not meet Apple’s current SDK and 64-bit requirements.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝:
- An iOS/iPadOS developer with experience in Swift or Objective-C
- Familiarity with Xcode and the App Store submission process
- Ideally, someone with a heart for open access to the Scriptures

PocketSword filled a vital niche on iOS/iPadOS — offering a lightweight, offline, ad-free Bible study app with deep module support. It integrates with The SWORD Project and supports over 500 free Bible modules from multiple sources, including the extensive library at eBible.org

There are several Bible translations online at this 𝐂𝐳𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐁𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 website that as yet have not been made into SWORD modules.

Many of them are in languages other than Czech, so please consider what might be useful future additions for the CrossWire repository.

If you are asking ChatGPT via WhatsApp to output a passage of Scripture in standard IMP format, it just can’t do it.

This is because the dollar sign is used in LaTeX and MarkDown for special purposes.

The workaround is to use a different character such as £ in place of the $, then use a text editor afterwards to replace all £ by $

E.g. for use with SWORD utility imp2vs.

Example: KJV

This release features support for tag-specific notes.

Note-worthy improvements and fixes are:

Add support for tag-specific notes.
Add a context menu button that allows opening a verse in a new tab.

Remember commentary collapse status by commentary module.
Add module search option to filter on word boundary.
Hide book/tag overview in tagged verse list if the verse list only covers one book.
