🏳️‍🌈 Pride Shabbat: A Celebration of Light, Love, and Belonging

The South Coast LGBTQ+ Network is proud to partner with Congregation Agudath Achim in Taunton for a special Pride Shabbat service, and we would love for you to join us.

This Pride Month, we are coming together for a joyous evening that celebrates the beautiful diversity of our community and the people who make it whole. Shabbat is a time to pause, to give thanks, and to gather in fellowship, and we are honored to share in that tradition with our friends at Agudath Achim as we lift up the dignity, the courage, and the wholeness of our LGBTQ+ family, friends, and neighbors.

Expect an evening of song, prayer, reflection, and celebration in a space where all are embraced. Whether you are a longtime member of the congregation, part of our Network family, or simply curious and looking for community, there is a seat at the table for you.

Welcome shabbat with us this Friday night at 7pm!

After kiddush Reb Josh will lead a short teaching and discussion on the sefira of the week: Tiferet — beauty, balance, and compassion.

Tiferet embodies the balance of the loving flow of Hesed and the power and restraint of Gevurah. Between suffocating, grasping, or permissiveness and debilitating judgement, it is the stability of compassion. It is the Holy One of Blessing, the God before whom we stand in prayer. - https://mailchi.mp/agudathachim.org/shabbat-and-purim-this-week-13051378

Today has been Day One of the Omer: Lovingkindness within Lovingkindness.

The Torah tells us to count seven weeks from Passover to the festival of Shavuot — the time it took the ancient Israelites to travel from Egypt to Sinai.

Jewish mystics adopted a practice of taking each week to focus on one of seven Divine Attributes, and each day of each week to focus on an interaction of that attribute with each of the others.

It may sound esoteric (and, well, technically it is), but this kabbalistic practice is in fact very accessible with the right guide. Here are two online resources I recommend:

1) Rabbi Simon Jacobson explains each day in simple terms and asks questions for self-reflection:
https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/277116/jewish/Introduction.htm

2) Rabbi Yael Levi offers a poetic interpretation based in mindfulness practice, and offers a prompt for meditation (you can also sign up to join her community for a live daily meditation session over Zoom):

Finally — I will be teaching a weekly in-person class at Congregation Agudath Achim in Taunton every Shabbat following kiddush. If you are local, I hope will join me!

Shabbat Shalom,

Reb Josh
