Mishpachah-Congregational Family
מִשְׁפָחָה
We bless and thank you Father God for this day that you have made and for life that you have given in it. We thank you for the brothers and sisters, the family you have brought us into.
We ask that you would bless and protect us. Keep us safe from all harm, from the adversary’s plans and from evil men who would wrong us. Let no evil prosper against us.
We pray you would bless the work of our hands and prosper us in what we do. Grant us favor with those around us.
Open our understanding to know what is good and right and pleasing in your site. In every circumstance and situation that we face, may we have your spirit dwelling within us to walk in all righteousness and truth that our lives would glorify you and give witness and example to those around us.
If it be possible that we would draw another into your kingdom or one of your own into closer fellowship with you.
Amen!

Beha’alotcha/When you set up
Num.8:1-12:16, Zec.2:14(10)-4:7, Mat.10:1-42
This portion takes us back to the erecting of the Tabernacle for the first time. After the establishment of the Priesthood and its service, we are now instructed in the consecration of the Levites for their service. Following the dedication of the Tabernacle and its facilitators we enter the appointed time of Passover marking the completion of one year since the people had been delivered from bo***ge. Once the season of preparation has passed there is no delay in putting the Tabernacle into functioning in its purpose. Afterwards the Tabernacle set out from there, traveling through the lands on the way to its ultimate destination after the assisting leaders were appointed to serve the people’s needs in the camps. God provided provision as they traveled and demonstrating protection of his representative’s reputation, even in private places.

Mat 10:1-42 And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay. Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts, no bag for your journey, or two tunics or sandals or a staff, for the laborer deserves his food. And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart. As you enter the house, greet it. And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. Truly, I say to you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of S***m and Gomorrah than for that town. “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.

Once again our study of the living Torah aligns with the portion of the written Torah assigned for this shabbat.

Avinu Malkeinu- Our Father, Our King
אָבִֽינוּ מַלְכֵּֽנוּ
Our father God in heaven, holy is your name. We pray your kingdom would come and your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven.
We ask that the eyes of your people Israel be opened and their hearts ready to receive Yeshua your son our savior and king. And that they would call on him and he would come to rule over us in righteousness and truth from your holy city Jerusalem, teaching us your Torah as your word has promised. We ask that you would give us day by day the provisions for our needs. Health and healing in our bodies, food, and drink to nourish and sustain us, your word and spirit to lead and guide us. Forgive us of our sins and our offences, our failures to do according to your instructions and will for our lives. Help us to forgive those who have wronged us, offended, and persecuted us. Don’t let there be anything that would hinder our receiving your forgiveness. And by your spirit dwelling within us, help us to show your grace, love, and mercy to the world around us that through us they would know you. Lead us in the path of righteousness for your name's sake and for our soul’s sake. Deliver us from all evil and temptation to sin. And away from our selfish self-centered nature, that seeks its own pleasure. But lead us into good works before others that they would glorify you and desire to have fellowship with you. Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever and you alone are God and beside you we have no other. Amen!

Nasso/Take Up
Num.4:21-7:89, Jdg.13:2-25, Mat 9:18-38
This week’s portion continues the enumeration of the Levites and their duties. The division of responsibilities ensures that every aspect of worship would be covered in the Tabernacle/Temple service. This exclusivism meant that not everyone would be administering the work in the house of God and some were even excluded from entering in to partake of the ministry within as they were unclean and needed to remain at a distance to maintain the holiness and purity of sacred space. That should not be understood to mean they were uncared for by God, though his representatives might have at times and individually failed to attend to them as God would have wanted. There is in this portion an answer to the problem of distance of the people from the Tabernacle/Temple services of the Levites and Priests in the office of the Nazirite. The individual who took a Nazirite vow took on the holiness position of the High Priest without the inclusion to service in the house of God. The purpose of doing this is not meant to be so someone could boast of how holy they were, but rather to take on the responsibility of being “Holy to YHVH” as his representative, the High Priest, to the people outside the Tabernacle/Temple complex. John the Baptist is a good example of this. This would also apply to the imparting of the Priestly blessing covered in this portion. Rather than just something you would receive if you were at the Tabernacle/Temple at the right time, God’s representative would come to you, engage with you in bringing God and his word to you and then declaring his blessing for you.

Mat 9:18-25 While he was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” And Jesus rose and followed him, with his disciples. And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well. And when Jesus came to the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose.
Mat 9:27-29 And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be done to you.”
Mat 9:32-33 As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, “Never was anything like this seen in Israel.”
Mat 9:35-38 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
It seems the people were without help for their issues till Yeshua came to minister life to them, but they did have resources available to them. The Levites and Priests were commissioned to serve the people as were others who were serving the people as healers and deliverers. There were many synagogues staffed with leaders who represented and taught Torah. There were schools of the prophets, places of learning to function in the office of a prophet. There was a pool of healing for the first to enter after an Angel stirred the waters. There were also doctors, learned men who performed medical treatments and administering cures for the peoples ailments. So, why weren’t the people healed, freed and lead into righteousness? Likely, many were administering man’s knowledge, wisdom and understanding rather than having God’s spirit that brings life working through them. Teaching righteousness as determined by the Rabbis rather than God’s word, treating health issues with the limited understanding of the created rather than the creator, Using elaborate formulas to exercise spirits rather than bringing God’s spirit to replace the evil one. There were some successes by others when God honored their efforts or worked through them specifically. Scripture records some of the works of the prophets God sent to the people to minister to them the works and words of life through the moving of the Holy Spirit. The key was and is that though they were human, the Holy Spirit worked through them to minister to people. Yeshua saw there was many in need, not just for someone to administer their own words and works, but for many to be filled with the Holy Spirit to partner in ministering to people, restoring, delivering, instructing and strengthening. Everyone to their own place and position, functioning as assigned making complete the service of the Kingdom modeled in the Tabernacle/Temple.
Final comment for clarity: The function of service outside the Tabernacle/Temple complex was not and is not a doing away with the service of the house of God, rather an extension of sacred space. We, as the Temple of the Holy Spirit, take the ministry of the Levites and priests out to the people while the Levites and Priests receive those who come in to the sacred space. May those we encounter in the world then go and fellowship with the God we brought out to them. (in assemblies of God’s people as sacred space till the restoration of the Temple).
