When it comes to reading, teaching or preaching the Bible, it’s vital that we interpret the Scriptures with clarity and integrity. Clarity comes from correctly using the tools of hermeneutics (principles of interpretation); integrity comes from using those tools intentionally and consistently.

Rightly interpreting Scripture has always been vital, but never more essential in our world than right now. Our world is in crisis, and spiritual kingdoms expand and contract in such times. What this means is that, in this crisis, some hearts are opening to the truth about Jesus Christ, and other powers are taking the opportunity to spread deception. For us to be salt and light right now, we must share the truth of the Bible, and we must do so with clarity and integrity.

No book can instantly make you a good interpreter of Scripture, but I hope that my little book (82 pages, plus indices) can get you started. The title is Polishing Our Hermeneutical Glasses, and it’s available free of charge as an interactive PDF file here:

I think that if you peruse the table of contents on page iii, one section or another will pique your interest. While viewing the book on screen, just click on a table-of-contents entry, and it will take you directly to that section.

Roderick is currently sharing the introductory module of BCtoAD at Seattle Foursquare Church in north Seattle. The BCtoAD course surveys the Bible and Christian history. The course involves classroom participants in a discussion about what the Bible has to say about the deep questions and big issues of life. The final module raises many practical questions about how the Christianity of the apostles turned into the Christianity that is familiar to us today, and what — if anything — we should do to more closely emulate the ancient faith.

Our founding motto for Timothy Ministries was taken from 2 Timothy 4.5: "fulfill your ministry." This motto, along with our ministry name, expressed our commitment to the mandate of discipleship given by Jesus (Matthew 28.18-20). From the outset, it has been our mission to help equip our fellow Christians for the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4.12). It is still our delight to provide insights into the Scriptures, and tools for studying the Bible, to people like these pastors and church leaders who participated in our Introduction To Biblical Hebrew last month in Cabo San Lucas.

Here's a rare photo from 1972, showing four young ladies singing on the stage of the Lighthouse Christian Coffee House: Sharon Keene, Lanelle Carlson, Kris Wolbert, and Annette Carlson. A bunch of us kids started the Lighthouse in 1971 as an evening drop-in spot, for music and fellowship, in the basement of a now-gone church building on the corner of 56th and Pine in South Tacoma. It was on this stage that I (Roderick) got my start doing public Bible teaching.

The Top 7 Reasons NOT To Study The Bible In Its Original Languages:
1. Learning biblical Greek and/or Hebrew improves memory, making it that much longer before you’ll be able to reread all your who-dunnit mystery novels.
2. It will use up time you could have spent choosing custom ringtones for all of your contacts.
3. It’s not tax-deductible.
4. You should be doing housework/yard work.
5. It may reveal that a verse you used as a proof text doesn’t support the idea you thought it did.
6. You may hear God’s voice speaking through the text so powerfully that it brings conviction.
7. You may become addicted to in-depth Bible study.

FRONT BURNER, BACK BURNER: WHAT'S COOKING ON THE TIMOTHY MINISTRIES STOVE? Currently on the front burner for Rod, along with his weekly Greek/Hebrew class, is preparation for a trip to Los Cabos to visit an ailing relative, and to teach an Intro To Biblical Hebrew for some Mexican church leaders. On the second burner is continuing work on Rod's book, THE PENTECOST TWIST, about the meaning of the Pentecost event of Acts 2. On a back burner, Rod is continuing his research and writing on THE THEOLOGY OF THE BRIDE, the theology about God's ultimate purpose for all things in Christ. On the other back burner, Rod is doing preliminary work on a future study on THE WISDOM SAYINGS OF JESUS. Thank you, everyone, for your love, encouragement and prayers!

Can you guess how to say "coffee" in Greek? KAPHE. Can you guess how to say "fruit"? PHROUTA. 😁 Ha, ha, Greek doesn't sound that difficult, does it? Okay, okay, the ancient biblical vocabulary is a little different than the Modern Greek, but biblical Greek opens up a whole new world of scriptural understanding. Sadly, you can't start learning biblical Greek with us this Saturday; class is canceled due to illness. But, if you're ready to start learning biblical Greek free of charge, click the "Send Email" button (above below our cover photo) and ask for complete information!

Our informal, Saturday morning Biblical Languages Fellowship is like a weekly academic archeological dig: we keep finding tiny treasures in the Scriptures that we had never seen before. And like an archaeological dig, the findings have limited value if the archaeologists never publish their observations. Therefore, I've made a point of noting down the valuable insights brought to the surface by our Saturday morning discussions, with the intent to publish them in the form of my commentaries-in-the-making, that I call "Student's Companions." I'm happy to announce that my "Student's Companion To Mark 13" is now posted here: http://www.tmin.org/pdfs/41_Mark_Ch_13.pdf. If you're interested in , the of Jesus, the abomination of desolation, or anything having to do with the , you might like to download this free 42-page pdf document to add to your own study or research notes. Blessings to my fellow students who helped uncover these insights into our Lord's words!
